Or did he believe those nonsense words, thinking that she and Frank Parker were really having a private meeting and getting angry about it?

Joanna Lawrence didn’t know either.

But she knew that since her husband was angry, as his wife, she should try to appease him.

It wasn’t the first time she had to comfort Ashton Heath.

She already had experience in doing so.

Joanna thought for a moment, and then told Ashton Heath the whole story of what happened last night.

"So, I really didn’t know he was there. If I had known, I definitely wouldn’t have gone. Ashton, you believe me, don’t you? You surely wouldn’t believe those reporters’ nonsense, right?"

"What I said is true. I don’t know why those reporters have photos and videos. I clearly deleted everything."

After Joanna finished speaking, she didn’t hear Ashton’s response.

So, she explained again.

Ashton Heath... wouldn’t be doubting her words and thus not responding, would he?

No way.

He always trusted her.

And even if he had suspicions, he would never doubt her on such matters.

Joanna was quite confident about this.

But if he hadn’t doubted her, why wasn’t he saying anything?

"Ashton, don’t you believe me?" His silence was making Joanna anxious.

"No, I do believe you."

Ashton finally spoke, his deep voice sounding heavier than usual, as if he was suppressing something.

"So, you believe what I said?"

"Yes, I believe you. Joanna, when have I ever doubted what you’ve said? If we didn’t even have this much trust between us, we would have argued countless times over these things."

"Then why didn’t you speak just now?" Joanna sighed with relief.

"Because I was a bit angry."

"You were angry?" Joanna was stunned, "What were you angry about? Was it because of last night’s incident? But I..."

"I’m not angry at you, but at myself." Ashton cut her off gently, "You were in danger last night, but I wasn’t by your side. The person who helped you turned out to be him."

The ’him’ Ashton was referring to was naturally Frank Parker.

After hearing this, Joanna also went silent for a moment.

"You can’t blame yourself; you weren’t there at the time." After a while, Joanna spoke.

"But I still feel uneasy."

"Though there is nothing between you two, there have been numerous rumors about you. People who don’t know the truth may choose to believe them. Joanna, I don’t care what others say about me, nor do I care if they believe those rumors, but I don’t want you to have your reputation damaged."

His voice became heavier, more chilling: "There are some things that need to be settled."

Joanna’s heart skipped a beat: "Ashton, what are you going to do?"
