My Space Connects to the Apocalyptic World
Chapter 30: Try Planting It in This Soil
Li Xingye stared in surprise at a row of neatly arranged potted plants that had appeared out of nowhere in the space.
And beneath the potted plants was a large flock of chicks, leisurely pecking at the dirt.
Before he could even be shocked that the space could support living creatures, he noticed that the flock of chicks seemed to be chasing something that was darting all over the place.
"Go away, go away! Don’t peck me!!"
The familiar voice, coming from the tiny thing being chased, made Li Xingye freeze. ’Could it be...’
"Wanwan?"

At that moment, Chi Wan was on the verge of going crazy.
After she had finished eating, she had thought about settling the chicks, preferably by fencing off an area for them—she definitely didn’t want the space to be covered in chick droppings.
However, it was only after entering the space that she realized she had forgotten one thing: she shrank inside the space.
And so, a flock of chicks that came nearly up to her chest had started treating her like a toy, chasing her as she fled for her life.
Just as she was about to leave the space to hide, she heard Li Xingye’s voice, which sounded like a godsend.
"It’s me, it’s me!" Chi Wan said quickly.
In that same instant, her eyes darted. ’I can’t be the only one getting chased around in here,’ she thought, and tried to trick Li Xingye into coming down as well.
’Of course, it’s absolutely not because I’m curious what Li Xingye looks like!’
"I found there was soil in the space today, so I thought I’d see if we could raise some living things."
Seeing Li Xingye extend his palm down to her, Chi Wan quickly jumped on, finally escaping the chicks’ siege.
She sat cross-legged to catch her breath, then looked up with a grin and said to Li Xingye, "Brother Xingye, you should come into the space too~ Maybe we can farm and raise pigs in here in the future, then you guys will never have to worry about food again."
Chi Wan didn’t know how the space was formed—perhaps it was some sort of pocket dimension—but in any case, from her current perspective, all she could see was Li Xingye’s lips and chin, magnified several times over.
He’d been eating well for a few days, but he had clearly starved for a long time before that; the line of Li Xingye’s jaw was sharp and well-defined. His healthy complexion, however, with its reddish lips, softened some of that harshness.
The only thing she could be sure of was that Li Xingye had good bone structure, so he definitely wouldn’t be unattractive.
Although Chi Wan was a sucker for a good voice, a pleasant voice paired with a handsome face would naturally be a source of double the delight.
Chi Wan let out a mental whistle, growing even more eager to see what Li Xingye really looked like.
But Li Xingye just stared, stunned, at the tiny person sitting obediently in his palm. He thought in a daze, ’She looks just like I imagined.’
Having shrunk down, Chi Wan now looked as delicate and cute as a doll.
She was a girl full of vitality, like the proudest sweet orange hanging on a branch in the middle of summer. Just looking at her, you could feel a burgeoning Life Force, a brightness completely different from the gloom of the apocalypse.
For some reason, Li Xingye suddenly felt himself flush.
"Brother Xingye? Brother Ye? Bro~ Bro~?"
Seeing Li Xingye remain silent for a long time, Chi Wan simply stood up and started pacing in his palm to get his attention. "Come on into the space, let’s build a coop for the chicks. Otherwise, they’re going to spray all over your food!"
Unlike before, when her voice was filtered through the space, this face-to-face conversation made Chi Wan’s voice sound even more crisp and pleasant. No matter what she said, it was surprisingly sweet.
Feeling the tickling sensation in his palm, Li Xingye felt inexplicably flustered.
He gently placed Chi Wan on the boxes. "I, I’ll build a chicken coop first."
As soon as he finished speaking, many thin, soft vines shot out from the potted plants, lifting up all the scattered chicks and placing them inside a fence he wove together.
Once the chicks were sorted out, Li Xingye finally returned to normal.
He gave a light cough, finally remembering the soil that had suddenly appeared. "Did this soil appear on its own?"
Chi Wan nodded. "I noticed it as soon as I entered the space today. It’s probably because of that Level 6 Crystal Core from last time. Why don’t you try coming into the space too? We could dig a big pond. Maybe we could raise some aquatic life or something."
Hearing that they could raise living things, Li Xingye was indeed tempted.
But he tried for a long time and couldn’t get his whole body to enter the space.
He said, a bit helplessly, "Maybe it’s the space’s self-preservation mechanism? After all, the environment on my side is much more complicated than yours. This is probably for the best."
Although Chi Wan was a little disappointed, she also felt that Li Xingye had a point—after all, he had zombies on his end.
"But even if I don’t go in, I can still dig a pond." Not wanting to see Chi Wan’s disappointed face, Li Xingye directly manipulated the supposedly soft branches and tried to dig a hole in the space.
The potted plants were growing very vigorously, so the two of them guessed there might be a water source underneath. Thus, they began to dig down from the soil of the potted plants.
To their pleasant surprise, after digging down about three or four meters, the soil actually became damp!
His spirits lifted, Li Xingye widened the mouth of the pit while continuing to dig deeper.
Unfortunately, after digging another meter or two, it was still just slightly damp, and there was no sign of a water source.
Chi Wan thought for a moment. "Maybe there isn’t enough Spatial Energy?"
Li Xingye suppressed his excitement and took out two Fifth Rank zombie Crystal Cores from his pocket. "Level 6 zombies are a rare find, but Fifth Rank ones should be of some use. I’ll go get more Crystal Cores tomorrow."
The main issue was that high-level zombies had already developed a sense of danger. Perhaps the Level 6 zombie had transmitted some information before it died, causing all the High-level zombies to now avoid Li Xingye.
It had gotten to the point where Li Xingye now had to completely conceal the aura of his superpower when he went out "hunting" just to "lure" in slightly higher-level zombies. The tables had completely turned.
Although the Level 5 Crystal Cores were no match for a Level 6, they were still useful.
The moment the Crystal Cores fell into the pit, they were rapidly absorbed, the speed of absorption several times faster than before.
Then, to their delighted surprise, the space expanded a bit more, and the areas covered in soil grew larger along with it!
Chi Wan even saw faint specks of green in the soil!
"Is that... grass?!"
Hearing the excitement in Chi Wan’s voice, Li Xingye couldn’t help but reveal a trace of joy as well. "It should be. I’m starting to look forward to what this space will become."
’If it’s like Chi Wan said... maybe the entire apocalypse can be saved!’
Chi Wan naturally thought of this as well. In her happiness, she remembered the orchid she had brought back today.
"Oh, right, Brother Xingye, can you do me a favor?"
Chi Wan left the space for a moment and brought the orchid in. "Can this be saved?"
Li Xingye nodded. He was about to act, but then he suddenly stopped. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
With a strange sense of anticipation, he said to Chi Wan, "Why don’t we try planting it in this soil?"
