Chapter 95: Resonance Training

Training the passive resonance Qi would take two weeks because it wasn’t a technique learned through repetition but a perception that had to be developed, and perceptions had their own rhythm.

Lira had explained it on the first day.

"Active Qi you decide," she said, in the backyard of the inn with Kai sitting on the ground and Serah standing at the edge. "You concentrate it, you direct it, you use it. You know when it’s working because you turned it on."

"And the resonance one?"

"The resonance one never turns off." Lira positioned herself in front of him. "It emanates from you all the time. It’s the one Serah sensed before she met you. The one the administrator detected in Grimvast. The one that attracts SSS entities without you doing anything."

Kai looked at his own hands.

"And it can be controlled?"

"It can’t be turned off. It can be reduced." Lira pointed to the spot on his wrist. "But to reduce something you first have to feel it. And the problem with resonance Qi is that you can’t feel it. It comes out of you. It’s like asking you to hear your own voice from the outside."

"Then I can’t."

"Not you alone." Lira looked at Serah. "But there are two people here who can feel it from the outside and tell you what it’s doing."

---

The method was simple in concept.

Kai closed his eyes and worked the resonance Qi — tried to feel it, reduce it, manage it blindly.

Serah and Lira read it from the outside and told him in real time what he was emitting.

Serah with her primordial aura — the same senses that had drawn her to Kai from kilometers away in Sector 7.

Lira with SS vampiric perception — the same one that detected the unique frequency of Kai’s blood.

The problem with the simple-in-concept method was the execution.

---

[DraconicLegacy: day one of resonance training]

[Chris_Murray: Serah and Lira both next to Kai. this isn’t going to be calm.]

[Warwolf: viewers: 1,300,000. the usual ones for training.]

[Per_Sudin: both have legitimate reasons to be half a meter from Kai. that’s the worst part.]

[Jack_Moore: ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) two weeks of this ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)]

---

The first session established the pattern.

Kai closed his eyes.

"Now," Lira said, "feel the resonance Qi. Not the active one. The one that comes out on its own."

Kai searched.

"You emit it in pulses," Serah said from his left. "Like waves. Constant."

"They’re not waves," Lira said from his right. "It’s continuous. It doesn’t pulse. It’s a sustained current."

Silence.

Kai opened one eye.

"Which of the two?"

"Waves," Serah said.

"Current," Lira said.

The two looked at each other.

"Primordial aura perceives energy in frequencies," Serah said. "What I feel pulses."

"Vampiric perception detects density," Lira said. "What I feel is continuous."

"Then both are right," Kai said.

"Yes," both said.

That didn’t help.

---

[Udo_Ehmen: HAHAHA both perceive the same Qi differently]

[Kalgarth: "waves" / "current" — and both are right]

[DraconicLegacy: Kai receiving two contradictory descriptions of the same phenomenon. this is going to be two long weeks.]

[Chris_Murray: Serah perceives frequencies. Lira perceives density. Kai’s Qi is both things.]

[Warwolf: 😂 Kai opening one eye "which of the two?" 😂]

---

By the fourth day Kai had learned to process both descriptions simultaneously.

It wasn’t that one was correct and the other wasn’t — it was that the resonance Qi had a frequency dimension that Serah read and a density dimension that Lira read, and to fully control it Kai needed to feel both.

Which meant he needed both of them.

Half a meter away.

Simultaneously.

For completely legitimate training reasons that neither of the two could object to because they were, in fact, legitimate.

---

The sixth day.

Kai with his eyes closed in the center of the yard.

Serah on his left, one hand near his shoulder to read the frequency.

Lira on his right, one hand near his wrist to read the density.

"The frequency went down," Serah said.

"The density is still the same," Lira said.

"Then I’m reducing it halfway," Kai said.

"You’re reducing what I read," Serah said.

"Not what I read," Lira said.

"I need to reduce both."

"To reduce the density," Lira said, "you have to find the point where the Qi concentrates before it emanates. It’s deeper than the frequency."

"Show me."

Lira moved her hand to the exact point on his wrist.

Serah, from the other side, moved hers to the point on his shoulder.

Both hands. Both points. Kai in the middle with his eyes closed.

The temperature in the yard dropped one degree.

Neither of them mentioned it.

---

[Per_Sudin: the temperature dropped one degree and no one said anything]

[Jack_Moore: both are doing legitimate training. that’s what makes this so tense.]

[Udo_Ehmen: they can’t complain because it’s real training. they have to be there. both of them.]

[Kalgarth: Kai in the middle with his eyes closed, unaware of the cold war half a meter from him]

[DraconicLegacy: ❄️ one degree less per session ❄️]

---

Day twelve was when Kai found it.

The point where density and frequency originated — deeper than either, the place from which resonance Qi came out before dividing into the two dimensions that Serah and Lira read separately.

Kai with his eyes closed.

"I found something," he said.

"What?" Lira said.

"The point where both things start. Before they separate."

Lira went still.

"That shouldn’t be possible yet," she said. "Finding the origin takes years."

"I found it."

"Describe it."

"It’s like..." Kai searched. "Like the center of something spinning. The frequency and density are the spin. The center doesn’t move."

Lira and Serah looked at each other.

For the first time in twelve days, the look between the two had no temperature. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Only recognition — that Kai had just described something neither of them had known how to explain because each only knew her half.

"Reduce from there," Lira said. "From the center."

Kai reduced from the center.

---

[System — update]

[Passive resonance Qi — origin control detected]

[Previous reduction: 82% of base intensity]

[Current reduction: 70% of base intensity]

[The system notes that Kai accessed the resonance Qi’s point of origin]

[The system classifies this as a milestone]

---

Kai opened his eyes.

Resonance Qi at seventy percent of its base intensity.

The number Lira’s mental outline had marked as the target from day one.

"Seventy," Kai said.

Serah read it with her primordial aura.

"Seventy," she confirmed.

Lira read it with her vampiric perception.

"Seventy," she confirmed.

Kai looked at both.

"Good," Serah said.

"Good," Lira said.

At the same time.

Both looked at each other.

The temperature in the yard dropped three degrees.

---

[Chris_Murray: "good" / "good" — at the same time — and they looked at each other]

[Warwolf: three degrees all at once. twelve accumulated days.]

[Per_Sudin: the training worked. Qi at 70%. also the inn is about to freeze over.]

[Jack_Moore: both said the same thing at the same moment and that made it worse]

[Udo_Ehmen: ❄️❄️❄️ THREE DEGREES ❄️❄️❄️]

---

Kai looked at both.

Looked at the yard temperature dropping.

"Thanks," he said. "To both of you. It worked."

Serah looked at him.

Lira looked at him.

Kai stood up.

"I’m hungry."

And walked toward the inn.

Serah and Lira stayed in the yard.

At three degrees lower temperature.

Not looking at each other now — both looking at the door Kai had entered through, both processing that the training was over and that there was no longer a legitimate reason to be half a meter from Kai and that the coming weeks wouldn’t have that structure.

Lira was the first to move.

Serah followed two seconds later.

They entered the inn with the exact distance of two people who won’t yield the way but also won’t fight over it.

---

That afternoon the message arrived.

Aldric brought it to the table where the three were eating — Kai had cooked, Serah ate with wolf ears partially out because she was relaxed, Lira in her chair with the plate that had the usual seasoning.

Aldric set the message on the table.

It wasn’t guild paper.

It wasn’t Regional Council paper.

It was dark paper, almost black, with a seal Kai didn’t recognize but Lira did — the kind of recognition that made her fork stop halfway.

"This arrived," Aldric said. "By messenger. Not from Valdris."

Kai looked at the seal.

Looked at Lira.

Lira was staring at the message.

"What is it?" Kai said.

Lira didn’t answer right away.

She set her fork down.

"It’s from the vampire kingdom," she said.

She picked up the message.

The seal had her name.

"And it’s for me."

---

[Kalgarth: (°ロ°) THE VAMPIRE KINGDOM]

[DraconicLegacy: the message from Chapter 69. A_D_M contacted the kingdom. the kingdom contacted Lira.]

[Chris_Murray: Lira set her fork down. Lira never sets her fork down.]

[Warwolf: black paper. seal with Lira’s name. this is what she knew was coming.]

[Per_Sudin: what Lira told Kai on the north road. it’s happening.]

[Jack_Moore: viewers: 5,400,000 — and climbing fast now.]

[System — notification]

[Current viewers: 5,400,000 → increasing]
