My Yandere Tamer System: Every Beast Becomes a Sexy Goddess
Chapter 25: My Ice Queen And My Shadow Wolf Formed An Alliance At 3AM And Someone Almost Died?!
Soren woke up because the room was wrong.
Just the specific wrong of Grimm not being there, her weight gone from against his back where she always slept, and the second bed on the other side of the room with its blanket flat.
Selah’s bed was empty.
He sat up and looked at the door.
It was open a half-inch, just like when Grimm wanted out but was trying to be quiet about it.
He pulled on his coat and his boots without tying the laces and walked out.
◆◆◆◆
The dorm building at three in the morning had a different smell than it did during the day.
Soren followed the frost.
It was faint, the thin kind Selah left behind when she was being careful, a trace on the baseboards instead of the walls, more suggestion than ice, and he took the east stairwell to the third floor and followed it left.
The hallway outside Lior Vasquez’s room was lit by two emergency lights and nothing else.
He turned the corner.
Lior was on his threshold in his sleeping clothes, slumped against the door frame with his eyes closed and his chin on his chest.
The Crowned Lion was pinned against the far wall by shadow pressing the lion back against the stone.
The lion’s paws scraped the floor and its mane had gone dark, the gold heat suppressed under the column’s weight.
Yara stood between the lion and the hall with her back to Soren.
White hair, wolf ears flat against her skull, red eyes forward and steady.
She did not turn when Soren came around the corner.
Selah was crouched over Lior with one knee on the stone and her palm flat on his chest.
A thin sheet of ice ran up from her hand, across his chest, over his chin.
It covered his mouth.
It covered his nose.
His chest was still moving, but slower than it should have been.
"Selah."
She did not turn.
"He’s asking questions about you," she said.
"He spent three hours tonight going through the academy archive with his father on a communication stone. They found your corridor readings, the dungeon record, and the thermal logs from Cole Harver’s visit."
[DING! — Obsession Index: Selah Young 20 → 24/50.]
The lion tried to surge forward and Yara leaned half a degree into the column and the lion stopped.
I helped,
Yara said.
She wanted to come alone. I told her she would be more efficient with company.
He looked at the two of them, at the shadow column and the sheet of ice and Lior’s slowing chest.
The thing that was wrong was not that they had done this.
The thing that was wrong was how well they had done it together.
"How long?" he asked.
Selah checked Lior’s pulse with two fingers at his jaw. "Two minutes before critical."
Two minutes.
He needed a reason she would hear.
She had already run her own moral argument and come out here at three in the morning anyway.
"The Bureau seal," he said.
" If Lior dies in this hallway with frost on his mouth, the seal reads it as a murder by a bonded entity, and that report goes to the Continental Bureau automatically."
"I die. You lose the bond and Lior’s father spends the next two years making sure every person who was ever in this hallway disappears."
He watched her shoulders.
"He has to live," Soren said. "And I’ll handle his questions my way."
Selah’s hand did not move for four seconds.
He counted them.
Then her palm lifted.
The ice over Lior’s face stayed a moment and then it ran, Lior pulled in a breath that rattled and grabbed the doorframe.
He just opened his eyes, looked at nothing and closed them again.
Selah stood up and turned.
She looked at Soren for a long time and did not say anything.
Behind her, Yara let the shadow column drop and the lion slid down the wall onto its haunches.
It stayed there with its mane still dark and its head hanging.
You’re getting harder to manage, master.
She dissolved.
The lion raised its head and looked at Soren.
It looked at the space where Yara had been.
Then it put its chin down on the floor.

Neither of them spoke on the way back.
Selah walked two steps ahead with her arms at her sides and the frost on her knuckles blue-green, the new color it had been since this afternoon, since the bond deepened, and it moved the way it had been moving since then.
Grimm appeared from the stairwell shadow when they reached their floor and fell into step beside him, he scratched behind her ear without looking down and she pressed her flank against his leg.
Soren said, "When did you two plan that?"
Selah didn’t want to say anything and Yara couldn’t.
They got back to their room.
Selah went to her bed, pulled the blanket up and turned toward the wall, the frost on her knuckles faded to the faint daytime pattern by the time she stopped moving.
Soren sat on the edge of his own bed and looked at the floor.
[DING! — Obsession Index: Selah Young 24/50. Bond Tier: 2/5.]
[DING! — WARNING: Tamer is now responsible for two bonded entities in CONSPIRATORIAL phase.]
[DING! — New entity-to-entity bond detected: Selah Young ↔ Yara Hale. Classification: ALLIANCE. This classification is not in System records.]
Soren read that last one three times.
Not an alliance through him.
Not mediated by the bond or the index or any mechanic he had a name for.
Selah and Yara had looked at each other in a hallway at three in the morning and decided to be on the same side, and the system did not have a category for it, and neither did he.
He had not seen it form.
He was sitting in the dark in the middle of the thing he had built, and two of the walls had just agreed to talk to each other without telling him first.
He put his face in his hands.
From under the bed, distantly, the floor gave a low groan, and it was not the building settling.
He lifted his head and looked at the floor.
