Mystic Overlord: Reading Gives Strength
Chapter 1461 - 1455: Air Raid
Up ahead lies the capital of the Nine Commandments Secret Meeting.
This is the place for the final battle of this voyage.
Ronald hopes to retain the advantage of their surprise attack as much as possible before they arrive. With full exertion of the Flying Spell, the journey that originally takes around three days is compressed to less than one day.
When the two arrived above the city from the air, it was exactly two hours away from dawn.
At this moment, the city’s residents are still resting.
Only the casters on night patrol tasks are still wandering the streets and alleys, while the entire city is enveloped in darkness, with only sporadic lights dotting some street scenes.
To be fair, the casters of the Nine Commandments Secret Meeting are quite meticulous about city building.
Ronald and Costate soar above, able to see rare buildings unseen in other cities across the southern continent. Besides large banks and industrial-style shipyards, there’s even a large central hospital situated among them.
Especially in city planning.
The city’s streets and districts are very well-functionally divided, with smooth roads being regularly maintained.
From a bird’s eye view.
One can clearly discern the direction for future expansion and development planning of this city.
"..."
"This isn’t the planning level a city in the southern continent should have."
Upon seeing this scene, Ronald confidently assessed:
"It seems our enemies, having acquired the ’Book of Interpretation,’ not only sped up their mastery of the original teachings, but also learned quite a lot from books."
Costate followed by expressing her thoughts:
"Currently, the construction level of this city isn’t comparable to ’Springs,’ but at this development trend, they might soon catch up with ’Grid’s pace."
"..."
Ronald and Costate exchanged their views on the city as they glided forward through the dark night sky.
The excellent city building by the Nine Commandments Secret Meeting is a merit.
However, for attackers like Ronald and Costate, it also provides quite convenient conditions for the raid.
Merely flying in the air doesn’t even require any reconnaissance spell for assistance.
Ronald glanced downward, and in the city’s northeast direction, he saw a solemn and imposing building. Despite its large scale, other buildings were set quite a distance away from it, with a very spacious plaza in front.
Judging solely from this visual information, Ronald dared to conclude that this is undoubtedly the administrative building of this city, there is almost no other possibility!
"..."
Staring at the building, Ronald’s gaze hardened.
The enemy’s stronghold was right before him, and he had no intention of sneaking in or stealthily carrying out any assassination plan.
Instead, he was prepared to use thunderous tactics to capture the opponent all at once.
Thus, Ronald turned to Costate beside him, issuing tonight’s first command:
"Costate, manipulate the weather and make it rain nearby. Keep the impact as contained as possible, don’t let it be detected, just create an environment suitable for me to cast spells."
Costate instantly understood Ronald’s intention.
Her master intended to cast the Rain Mist Divine Hammer spell, using the most violent thunder force among all abilities to annihilate everyone in the building below!
"Sir, I understand!"
The maid nodded slightly, then disengaged from Ronald’s flight guidance, beginning to control air currents to ascend in altitude.
A spell able to influence weather is no small matter.
At this height for normal casting, overly extravagant magic fluctuations are bound to alert casters below.
The Nine Commandments Secret Meeting casters.
Have conducted detailed investigations on Ronald.
If they preemptively perceive the attack, they might come up with corresponding countermeasures. Though the destruction capability alone of Thunder Magic indeed stands alone among many forces.
But the original teachings system features an assortment of peculiar spells as well.
In the unlikely event something like a Faraday cage professionally counters it, that would spell trouble.
Meanwhile, Ronald watched Costate’s figure ascending.
To fulfill his request, the strategy chosen by the maid was rather simple.
She elevated her altitude as much as possible, distancing the casting area from the perception range of enemies below.
Leveraging the darkness before dawn.
Costate blew a large mass of clouds from afar into this airspace.
She then remained in a higher position above the cloud layer, commencing spellcasting to invoke celestial phenomena, preparing the next pair of air currents for rainfall.
Within achievable bounds, Costate had done her utmost.
Seeing this situation, Ronald ceased worrying and instead focused on chanting his spell incantation down below:
"Its name is Styx,
the black waters flow downward, spilling to the dark and perilous cliffs below..."
As the spell activates, the Perception Magic from Divine Comedy - Hell spreads downward.
The outcome exhilarated Ronald.
Perhaps due to the tense environment these days, tonight many high-level personnel of the Nine Commandments Secret Meeting were concentrated in the administrative building, not returning to their private residences.
Ronald carefully discerned, even managing to identify several strong original teaching holders from amongst them.
Even more fortunately, though these fellows were considerably vigilant. Costate’s distance was far enough that none sensed the unfolding change above the city.
"Hoo—"
Ronald exhaled, everything being as planned.
Thus, he summoned the Rain Mist Divine Hammer from his hand.
Holding this ancient yet powerful original teaching, Ronald silently stood aloft in the pitch-black sky, waiting for Costate’s weather manipulation.
Meanwhile, the maid was flawlessly executing Ronald’s tasks.
Ensuring not a trace of their presence leaked, Costate delicately and meticulously controlled her spells, making subtle alterations to the weather.
Through patient and careful operation, about a quarter-hour passed.
The airflow pulled by continuous casting gradually intensified, eventually meeting the requirements for rain. Costate grasped this critical juncture, directly crashing the two air currents under her control in the air, then embedded them into the cloud layer beneath.
Splat—
Ronald immediately felt a chill on his face below.
The first drop of rain fell silently on Ronald’s face, as if signaling from Costate.
Ronald whispered thanks to Costate.
Then he raised the ancient tablet inscribed with cuneiform before him and unwaveringly recited the engravings:
"The skies sever from daylight,
The earth divides from its edges,
The name of the Son of Man is yet to be established!"
Night—
The city remains amidst the stillness of nightfall.
Amidst the sudden magic fluctuation, a radiant thunderflash burst in the sky, illuminating the entire heavens brightly.
