Myths Reawakened
Chapter 323 (1): Little Demon, Where Are You From?
Saint George’s Church, Windsor Castle.
Hermann remained at his post, expressionless. Fifteen minutes had passed since he contacted the headquarters of the Ministry of Magic, and each second felt like an eternity as anxiety gnawed at him.
Where were the reinforcements? Where were the Darkness and Death Knights? They charged faster than anyone when there was a rebellion, but were nowhere to be seen when a demon came. Had they already left Londan?
Speaking of reinforcements, reinforcements arrived. A woman in a white suit appeared in Hermann’s line of sight. She had silver hair, silver eyes, and pale lips, looking as cold as a block of ice, keeping everyone at arm’s length.
Hermann held his breath. He sensed tremendous pressure from the newcomer. Although he felt no aura from her, and she seemed no different from an ordinary person at first glance...
She had passed through the magical wards without triggering a single alarm, entering the heavily guarded Windsor Castle as casually as one would walk down a supermarket aisle. She couldn’t possibly be ordinary.
“Hermann Muller, legendary mage of the Windsor Ministry of Magic and Captain of the Order of Holy Light. Are you the reinforcement sent by Vice Minister Auston?” Hermann gave a respectful knight salute.
The four Gold-ranked members of the knight order didn’t know what was happening, exchanging confused glances. They didn’t understand why they needed to call headquarters for help when nothing had happened.
Is Captain under so much stress that he’s hallucinating? x4
Darienne returned the salute and replied icily, “I received a call from the Prince saying that a demon had broken into Saint George’s Church. Is this the place?”
“Yes.” Hermann straightened his back and asked curiously, “Madam, do you mean Prince Edward?”
“Who’s that?”
...Right, so it’s Prince Wayne.
“Leave the demon to me. Just watch the door and make sure the demon doesn’t escape through other exits.” Darienne walked past Hermann, heading toward the restricted area.
“Are you certain that you don’t need assistance, Madam?”
“If you help the demon, my odds would be even better.”
Darienne didn’t look back. Before Hermann could ask who she was, she vanished from his sight.
Two minutes later, Wayne arrived fashionably late after finishing the deed. He hadn’t transformed into the Death Knight, but instead put on a black suit with understated luxury, like a royal making a private visit.
“Mr. Wayne, what brings you here?” Hermann asked in surprise.
“I’m here to collect the demon’s corpse and check what exactly is hidden inside Saint George’s Church that’s attracted another demon.”
Wayne smiled. The hidden message put great pressure on Hermann, and he hurried to explain, “There’s no secret in the church. The Minister of Magic and the Vice Minister only assigned us to guard it because it was the royal mausoleum. And there’s an instruction from the ancestors that Saint George’s Church is a place of honor for the royal family, requiring a legendary mage to be stationed here.”
“See, I haven’t said anything yet, and you’re already anxious.” Wayne’s smile remained. “I’ve sent reinforcement. Has the Moonlight Knight gone in?”
“What? She’s the Moonlight Knight?!”
Hermann was shocked. No wonder she made him, a legendary mage, feel such pressure. It made sense if she was a chosen knight.
“Oh, you let her in without learning anything?” Wayne raised an eyebrow, holding himself like an authoritative leader.
Hermann lowered his head with a bitter smile. It was his fault for stepping out of the door with his right foot first this morning. He was guilty and would accept punishment[1].
“Captain Hermann, you’ve worked hard guarding your post, as have the elites of the Order of Holy Light. Keep up the good work. The Lando family won’t let good work go unrewarded.”
Wayne didn’t press further, dropping the issue and casually dangling a carrot.
Hermann watched Wayne walk into the church’s core area with a wry smile. With the Moonlight Knight here, a mere demon couldn’t stir up trouble, so he needn’t worry about the Prince’s safety.
He felt the same way as when Queen Sophelia and Yvette learned of Darienne’s identity—resigned, dejected, helpless. The Lando family had three chosen knights at their beck and call, and the Nature Knight and the Sun Knight were on their way. Windsor’s regime change was inevitable.
There was no point in struggling. They should just follow the Prince Consort as the Regent and do their work!
***
Theater, Western District.
A blue-eyed man with long blond hair stood at the theater entrance holding a rose, his gentle smile warm like a spring breeze. His handsome face alone made women stop in their tracks.
Sister Titus, following the orders of her angel master Archibald, had come to the theater to flirt with women and create an alibi, avoiding unnecessary misunderstandings. The reincarnated angel was overpowered yet excessively cautious.
As a clergywoman with a pure heart, Titus had no idea how to hit on women, so Archibald had taught her a trick.
It’s easy. Just walk over and ask the girl, “Can I date you?” And you’re done.
Titus tried it. With Archibald’s face and a rose for romance, she quickly broke up three couples and scored three girlfriends.
Like master, like servant. Nothing wrong with that.
At this moment, Titus was already surrounded by three newly single young women. She debated whether she should take all three into the theater or follow Archibald’s example and give the three ladies a chance to compete for her fairly. In five minutes, whoever could land the most effective attacks would be the victor.
While she hesitated, a suited figure emerged from a black luxury car with two secretaries at his sides. He had one arm around a secretary’s hips and the other arm around the other secretary’s waist, smiling as if he had won at life.
Forest Julian, head of the Julian family within the Tulip Families. Like Auston, he appeared in his thirties, and at a young age, he inherited the family fortune through his devotion to not working.
The Julian and Lando families shared many similarities. Both had few members, and both engaged in business. The difference was that Auston had a son, while Forest had no children. Busty and long-legged secretaries came and went, vying for his attention, but none had managed to get pregnant.
In the business world, the Julian family focused on tobacco and the lottery. There wasn’t much to say about the tobacco business—it helped save national pension expenditure and thus received strong support from the establishments in Windsor. The lottery business involved many of Londan’s famous sports teams, including football and cricket. The family was thus powerful in the sports world with a thriving business that filled their coffers until they were overflowing.
People like him usually invite criticism that they should go to hell, yet Forest had an excellent reputation among the lower classes, at least more so than Auston, who dealt in finance.
The reason was simple: Forest had privately funded many orphanages throughout Windsor to take in homeless children. Kristen, for example, had spent two years at one of his orphanages before being adopted by Dorrin. Without those two years of free potatoes, Veronica’s white moonlight would’ve starved to death in the streets long ago.
For that alone, Forest deserved to go to heaven!
He was a contradictory person and couldn’t be easily judged as good or bad. Was he good? But tobacco and lotteries had destroyed families. Was he bad? Well, Wayne would be the first to object. He owed Forest a word of thanks, if only for the sake of the mother of his child.
Veronica would agree!
Londan had been full of sources of entertainment lately. Forest had his fill at once and recruited two new secretaries, spending half a month breaking them in. Today, bored out of his mind, he brought his two secretaries to the theater to enjoy a fine performance. Also, perhaps there would be a female student fresh out of school with a dream in art, but hitting walls on every turn. Forest could provide her with the much-needed financial support.
When he walked past Titus, his eyes glinted with golden light. He caught the scent of the Golden Law of Angels from Titus.
“Interesting!”
“The Church of Heavenly Father has sent its people...”
Forest glanced at Titus from the corner of his eye, patting his secretaries on the backsides and sending them in first. Don’t ask why. Maybe I just want something different tonight.
It made sense since this was Windsor.
The two coquettish women sauntered into the theater. Forest came up to Titus, joining her in watching the three young women yank at each other’s clothes and hair in a cat fight. Forest could easily tell that the male appearance was an illusion, and underneath it was a clergywoman.
With a smile, he asked curiously, “Sister, where’s your master, and why did he come to Londan?”
Titus froze. When she turned around, she saw golden light, and she mumbled in a daze, “My master is... is...”
Noticing the angel’s restrictions on her, Forest changed his question, “Why did you come to Londan, and who did you come with?”
“An envoy of the Papal State, here to negotiate with Prince Wayne and seek the second reincarnated angel under the orders of His Holiness the Pope,” Titus murmured.
“There’s another reincarnated angel in Londan?” Forest was mildly surprised. He had thought that there was only one reincarnated angel in Londan, which was why he had orchestrated things to create the illusion that Wayne was the reincarnated angel.
“Sister, is the information reliable?”
“It’s a secret order from His Holiness the Pope. It can be nothing but accurate.”
“If it’s the old fool prone to daydreaming, it doesn’t seem reliable...”
They had the conversation out in the open, yet no one noticed. The onlookers were completely engrossed in the catfight and ignored them.
“Tell me, how does the Pope plan on finding the second reincarnated angel?”
“His Holiness has prepared a Sacred Tome of Golden Law for Mr. Wayne, hoping to find an angel through another angel. That sacred tome is different from the usual ones. Mr. Wayne will surely find his own kind.”
“I see. It seems that the Pope will have to be satisfied.” Forest nodded. “Why are you here, Sister? Where’s your leader?”
“Inside Saint George’s Church is the Blood of Heaven and Draconic Realm... extremely precious,” Titus told him everything.
“Tsk, tsk. You know quite a lot. Your master must really like you!” Forest smiled. “Reincarnated angels don’t have the bloodline of the original angels, so their power is greatly weakened. They cannot handle the mission that is to come. Your master pursues Saint George’s blood to complete their transformation and reclaim the power deposited in Heaven...”
“Perhaps they may even recover their memories!”
“Good idea, but too late. I’ve taken the blood.”
“The Draconic Realm does hold some surprises. Depending on your luck, you may just find them.”
Forest glanced at Titus and asked a few more questions. After gathering a good amount of intelligence, he walked into the theater with a satisfied smile.
“There are two reincarnated angels in Londan. I know one, but the other...”
“Who could it be?”
“The world is getting more and more interesting.”
“Kekekeke—”
Titus shuddered, waking up from her daze without noticing anything amiss. After the three women fought and determined a victor, the two losers had to seek reconciliation with their ex-boyfriends, while Titus entered the theater with her arm around the winner’s waist.
Demons loved to toy with human hearts, but so did angels. Both were inhuman in their own twisted ways.
1. A reference to the meme “I entered the company with my left foot and got fired.” It originated from someone in China sharing that they were fired for stepping into the company with their left foot first, which resonated with people who had been laid off with ridiculous reasoning. It later evolved into an expression for exploitation in workplaces in general, or was used in a humorous way to say that someone’s going to be fired. ☜
