Chapter 1378: The Blackwood Forest
"Time for breakfast downstairs."
It was Big White.
Big White was followed by Jinlian.
Jinlian sat on the ground, wagging her tail, and cocked her head to look at Gregory Lawrence, "Woof woof woof."
Gregory Lawrence couldn’t understand what Jinlian was saying.
But Big White could.
So, it took on the role of translator, "Jinlian says, her owner is waiting for you downstairs."
The time was now nine in the morning.
Gregory Lawrence yawned, "Got it, I’ll be right down."
Big White patted Jinlian with its wings, and they turned to head downstairs.
Two little short legs, one wobbling from side to side, the other pitter-pattering.
Their silhouettes were inexplicably cute.
The morning was cool, so Gregory Lawrence went back to his room to put on a jacket.
The inn was basic, with no hot water, so he headed downstairs with his hair in a "bird’s nest."
The lobby on the ground floor was fairly spacious. In comparison to yesterday, when there were a few guests, today was much quieter.
Even if people came, they were just passing through quickly, buying some food and then leaving.
By the time Gregory Lawrence came down, Hannah had already started chatting with the innkeeper.
The owner was a middle-aged man, known to the locals as Old Campbell.
Old Campbell ran the small inn by himself, and had a son who was now a high-ranking hunter in the Hunter’s Guild.
Only, his son had taken on a job a few days ago and wouldn’t be back until tomorrow.
Speaking of this, Old Campbell was still worried.
"In two more days, the Blackwood Forest will become dangerous. I don’t know if he will make it back before then."
Gregory Lawrence had just sat down and heard this, so he offered some reassurance, "Don’t worry, your son will definitely come back safely."
Old Campbell smiled, the fine lines around his eyes gathering together, "Then I’ll take your word for it."
Gregory Lawrence, as if he belonged there, slapped Old Campbell on the shoulder, "Naturally, my words are always accurate."
He was also in high spirits, starting to refer to himself as ’young master’ again.
Full of roguish charm.
Perhaps because both were from District Nine, Old Campbell and Gregory Lawrence got along famously.
Hannah occasionally joined in their chat, but most of the time she was looking outside.
The streets were empty, as if last night’s bustle and lights had been just a dream.
After a while, Old Campbell got up to go to the kitchen, and Gregory Lawrence moved closer to Hannah.
Looking in the same direction as her, he asked, "What are you looking at?"
Hannah withdrew her gaze, "Nothing in particular."
Gregory Lawrence didn’t dwell on it, but these past few days he had a weird feeling.
As if someone was following them.
"What’s the deal with the Blackwood Forest?"
Hannah’s question brought Gregory Lawrence’s thoughts back to the present.
She had been talking to Old Campbell about the Blackwood Forest just before, but then Gregory Lawrence diverted the topic.
However, now that she asked, it was clear that Gregory Lawrence knew more.
"For one month each year, the mutated beasts in the Blackwood Forest enter their breeding season. During this time, the mutated beasts become extremely aggressive. Their levels of aggression and danger increase several-fold. Therefore, during this period, the Mercenary Guild and the Hunter’s Guild stop issuing missions. Of course, there are those who, for the sake of money, risk their lives by going in, but those people never come back."
Gregory Lawrence briefly explained the situation with the Blackwood Forest.
North of District Nine is the border, while to the east is the Blackwood Forest.
The missions issued by the Hunter’s Guild and the Mercenary Guild are mostly related to the Blackwood Forest.
If it were in the past before the border restrictions were imposed, the people of District Nine could go beyond the border to gather food, but not anymore.
There’s a ban on crossing the border, and no one except for members of the Royal Mecha Squad is allowed to cross.
Since it’s no longer possible to leave via the border, another path must be found.
