Chapter 25: [025] Bronze Box

The entire cave continued rumbling as though a powerful earthquake was taking place outside. Its rumbling became stronger gradually as time went by, and right now even Jabba and Anton were on the ground, struggling to keep their balance.

The frightened cries of the women echoed through the cave, their voices trembling as they could not help but fear that the death Floki had spoken about was beginning to unfold before them.

Yet while the cave grew more chaotic with each passing second, Floki remained standing, unmoved, unharmed, and completely unscathed by the violent rumbling surrounding him.

And this wasn’t even due to his strength.

For unknown reasons, the rumbling, despite happening all around him, did not affect him in the slightest.

He suspected it was due to the fact that he was the pending dungeon lord that it hadn’t affected him. But that was only a speculation.

He observed the state of the others. Even though they were being troubled and shaken by the earthquakes, they were not in any form of immediate danger for now.

This gave him the opportunity to focus fully on the holographic window floating in front of him.

’This world system is way different from most of the novels I have read. One can even obtain the ownership of a dungeon by simply defeating its former owner and destroying the dungeon core,’ he muttered inwardly, his thoughts steady despite the chaos around him.

It was an interesting twist.

Unfortunately, it had something that held it back.

The race and level requirements.

’Humans cannot be lords of dungeons? Isn’t this racial discrimination?’ he wondered, a faint trace of dissatisfaction surfacing within him.

[ Negative. Humans can be dungeon lords. There are already tens of thousands of human dungeon lords. ]

The system quickly shattered his belief, replacing it with a new question that formed almost immediately.

Why couldn’t he become the lord of this dungeon?

[ Each dungeon has its own requirements, and those requirements cannot be bypassed. There are numerous dungeons that accept any race, and there are those that specifically select intelligent races like humans, elves, and dwarves. Also, dungeons are not always evil as you think. They could simply be the dwelling place of a group of peaceful creatures. But this is pretty rare. ]

’Hmm, this is understandable. I guess it is my bad luck that my race is not compatible with this dungeon. I would’ve loved to experience how it feels to own a dungeon,’ Floki thought as he shook his head slightly.

Thankfully, there was another option attached.

The wheel of legacy.

The description beneath it made it good enough to be considered appropriate compensation for the earlier restriction.

He picked the option without hesitation as time was running out.

[ You have selected the wheel of legacy. A bronze-ranked wheel of legacy will appear in 5 seconds. ]

’Bronze-ranked? It must be because the dungeon is a bronze-ranked one,’ he thought as he waited, his eyes fixed ahead in anticipation.

The five-second countdown ended.

A strong gust of wind suddenly spread across the hall, sending small objects flying and worsening the situation for those who were already being tormented by the rumbling.

Right in front of where Floki stood, a massive wheel appeared.

It stood at least two feet taller than Floki, its presence dominating the space before him.

Aside from its towering height, it had a somewhat ancient appearance and was made out of bronze, clearly reflecting its grade.

Floki stared at it with clear bewilderment.

’I expected something holographic that could be seen by me alone. I didn’t expect it would be a tangible wheel that could be seen by everyone.’

He turned to check on the others, and just as he suspected, they were all looking at the wheel with dumbfounded expressions, clearly confused by the sudden and mysterious appearance of such an object.

[ The dungeon system is universal and not linked to the host only. Everyone can access it if they complete the hidden objectives. Nevertheless, only certain parts of this world are aware of this despite dungeons existing everywhere. ]

’...Interesting,’ Floki muttered quietly, his gaze returning to the wheel as his thoughts deepened.

Indeed, this world was nothing short of that.

Despite everything he had learned today, he still felt like it was only the tip of the iceberg, as though far greater mysteries were hidden beneath the surface.

But those would be tackled as they came.

For now, he had to focus on the task at hand.

He observed the bronze-grade wheel of legacy more carefully and noticed that there was nothing written on the wheel, even though it was divided neatly into twelve equal parts.

[ Spin the wheel to obtain your legacy. ]

A notification popped up.

Noting that he had to spin it himself, he stepped closer and placed his hand firmly on the wheel.

’My luck so far has been pretty bad. Does that mean I would obtain a trash reward?’ he wondered, a faint unease surfacing in his mind.

But that was for fate to decide.

Applying strength into his hands, he spun the wheel.

The sound of the wheel cutting through the air echoed sharply across the trembling cave, metallic and distinct, almost drowning out the rumbling that continued to shake the ground beneath them.

The massive bronze wheel began to spin rapidly, forcing Floki to take a cautious step back as he watched it with focused, expectant eyes, waiting to see what outcome awaited him.

As seconds passed and the ticking sound of the wheel grew faster and sharper, Floki’s heartbeat quickened along with it.

And then, gradually, the speed began to reduce.

The wheel was coming to a stop.

’Please... give me something useful,’ he prayed inwardly, his gaze locked onto the wheel of legacy.

The wheel finally came to a complete stop.

The bronze wheel of legacy glowed intensely, its bright light illuminating the entire hall and pushing back the dimness of the cave.

And then, just as suddenly as it had appeared, the wheel vanished.

On the exact spot where it once stood, there was now a bronze gift box, glowing faintly with a pale and steady light.

"This is it..." Floki uttered under his breath, a hint of anticipation in his voice as he approached the box.

He picked it up carefully.

[ You’ve obtained a gift box. ]

[ Do you want to open it manually, or do you want the system to integrate it and open it automatically? ]

Floki weighed both options briefly.

If he was alone, he would have picked the quicker method without a second thought.

But he wasn’t.

The others were still watching him closely.

’Don’t worry, I will do it manually,’ he concluded.

Then he opened the box.

As he did, a blinding glow burst out from within, forcing him to shut his eyes.

And then, when he slowly opened them again, his vision clearing bit by bit, he saw three different items resting inside.

A book.

A crystal.

And a vial.

’What... exactly did I just obtain?’
