30 Days of Passion and Revenge-Chapter 178: The CEO and the Child
Lily spoke calmly. She couldn’t go around with a long face daily for the baby’s sake in her belly. She had to try to be a little happier.
"Then... I’ll leave you and Mr. Blackwood to it. I need to get back to work." Helen, the secretary, didn’t linger. After thanking them, she quickly left, knowing that if she didn’t, Mr. Blackwood might throw her and her son out of the B.E. building.
Ethan was capable of doing that.
Ethan glared at his secretary’s hasty retreating figure, his frustration simmering. He turned and scowled at Lily, bending down to wipe the tears from the little boy’s face. Coldly, he asked, "Lily, are you just itching for trouble?"
Why did she need to take care of a random kid? 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
He had no idea that she was such a helpful person!
"Could you be a little more restrained when talking in front of children?" Lily scolded him lightly, then led the frightened little boy to the couch and asked softly, "Is your name Little Prince?"
"Yes."
"How old are you?"
"Five... five years old."
The boy stammered and glanced nervously in Ethan’s direction before answering timidly.
Ethan glared at him, his expression fierce.
Lily looked helplessly at Ethan. If this was how he behaved with children, what would happen when they had their own? Would their child have to grow up under Ethan’s bad temper every day?
She began to question whether she should tell Ethan about the baby.
"Hey! Send the kid to the secretary’s office!" Ethan demanded, but he didn’t explode at Lily.
He had intended to bring her to his office for some "quality time."
And now, she had brought a kid with her... ruining his entire plan!
"No." Lily stubbornly replied, "If he’s bothering you, I’ll take Little Prince outside for a walk."
She stood up, holding the boy’s hand, ready to leave. Ethan quickly rushed over to stop her, his face full of displeasure. "Lily, do you have to take this kid?"
Running off with Alex was terrible enough.
But now she was prioritizing a secretary’s child over him?
She’d rather hang out with a brat than spend time with him?!
"Why do you hate kids so much?" Lily asked, confused.
He had once yelled at her to stop taking birth control and to have his child...
She had never imagined Ethan would hate children so much—yelling and scaring them like this.
"Because he’s too noisy!" Ethan shot a glare at Little Prince.
Helen was a diligent secretary and very professional... except for this child!
Every time this kid showed up, his wailing could be heard across the floor!
It was enough to make anyone snap.
"And what about your child? If your child is noisy, would you flush him down the toilet too?!" Lily asked, hinting at her genuine concern.
"My child, of course, wouldn’t be flushed!"
Lily let out a small sigh of relief. At least Ethan’s temper wasn’t completely irredeemable.
But before she could fully relax, Ethan added, in a matter-of-fact tone, "I’ll just leave him with Nanny. Why should I have to listen to a crying child?"
So that was his plan for his child?!
Did he hand the kid over to Nanny and be done with it? Was it his only responsibility to "plant the seed" and leave everything else to someone else?!
Lily felt a surge of anger. She grabbed Little Prince’s hand and headed for the door, speaking coldly, "Fine, I’ll take Little Prince out for a bit. You can get back to work."
"Don’t you dare leave!" Ethan barked, his tone immediately turning domineering.
She hadn’t even looked him in the eye properly, and now she was going to take some brat and leave him behind?!
"I don’t want to disturb you," Lily said coldly.
He wanted her to disturb him and only him! There was no need for a pesky kid to be involved!
"Lily! You are so heartless!" Ethan growled, surrendering to her once again.
He would rather listen to a crying child than spend half a day in the office without seeing her.
Lily watched as Ethan reluctantly followed her out; somehow, she felt a little better. He wasn’t all that bad, after all.
Her emotions had been all over the place lately... constantly up and down.
"Don’t you have work to do?" Lily asked, not wanting to interfere with his business.
"I’m not busy anymore!"
Ethan’s tone was irritated as if someone had wronged him. His dark eyes glared coldly at the little boy.
He had planned to finish his meeting and give Lily a "tour" of the bed in his office...
Now, he was stuck being a babysitter! A CEO taking care of his secretary’s child—what a joke!
"Little Prince, where do you want to go?" Lily bent down and asked gently. Helen’s son was adorable, with big eyes and fair skin...
She wondered if her child would look this adorable.
Ethan glared at her, feeling a surge of jealousy. Why didn’t she ever speak to him so gently?!
She was treating a secretary’s kid better than she treated him!
Still red-eyed and terrified, Little Prince glanced nervously at Ethan before whispering, "K-KFC."
"What’s so good about that mushy junk food?!" Ethan growled in disapproval, annoyed at the idea of waiting in line for chicken legs and a burger.
"Can you stop being so harsh with children?" Lily said, looking up at Ethan disapprovingly. "Are you going to dump your child on Nanny and completely ignore him? Or maybe yell at him when you’re in a bad mood?"
Why was this woman going on and on about children...?
Suddenly, a thought struck Ethan. He stared intently at her, his eyes narrowing. "Lily, why do you keep bringing up the topic of my child?"
Lily froze.
She had forgotten that, besides being short-tempered, Ethan was also a very sharp businessman... He wasn’t stupid—he could tell that she was dropping hints.
"Lily, are you..." Ethan’s gaze dropped to her stomach. Was she pregnant?
"If you’re not coming, we’re leaving," Lily said, quickly pulling Little Prince along. She didn’t want to give Ethan a chance to ask any more questions.
She needed to observe Ethan’s attitude more before deciding to tell him.
"Hey! Are you pregnant?!" Ethan caught up with her, not letting go of his suspicions.
As they passed the secretary’s office, several gorgeous, curvy secretaries greeted him respectfully, "Good morning, Mr. Blackwood!"
Ethan didn’t even acknowledge them. He was too focused on Lily. "Lily! Are you pregnant?!"
Why else would she be constantly talking about kids? Something was up!
"Pregnant with what? A D-cup?" Lily shot back coldly, glancing at the secretaries. "I don’t have a figure like your secretaries."
"Who’s talking about body types?!" Ethan said irritably. Then, suddenly, his handsome face lit up with a teasing grin as he looked at her. "Lily, are you jealous?"
"No, I’m not." She wasn’t jealous at all. She didn’t care how many D-cups he surrounded himself with—she didn’t care one bit.
"Lily! You are jealous!" Ethan’s grin grew more expansive, and his mood soared. Seeing her jealous made him feel ridiculously happy.
"I’m not!" Lily denied flatly.
"I’ve been with plenty of women. I can tell right away when one is jealous!" Ethan’s smirk deepened, and his dark eyes gleamed with amusement.
Yes, he had been with plenty of women before. He’d slept with even more...
"I don’t like sour things," Lily said coldly, holding Little Prince’s hand and pressing the elevator button, her face betraying her irritation.
"Don’t like sour things? But I remember you love sweet-and-sour fish." Ethan leaned closer, raising an eyebrow playfully. The more she denied it, the more obvious it was that she was jealous.
This woman loved him—she was even jealous of his secretaries.
Lily turned her face away, refusing to look at him.
"Mr. Blackwood, Mr. Blackwood! Please give me another chance. I swear I won’t make the same mistake!" The middle-aged executive who had been fired earlier rushed over, begging for forgiveness.
Lily stepped into the elevator with Little Prince, and Ethan followed. Still in a great mood, he said to the executive, "Fine, you’re reinstated!"
"What?" The executive was utterly bewildered. Just like that?! He had been ready to get down on his knees and beg for mercy, but now he was getting his job back.
Ethan made decisions based on his mood.
Lily glanced at Ethan, who was leaning against the elevator wall, a mischievous smile playing on his handsome face. When he noticed her looking, he immediately said, "Lily, you’re sneaking glances at me!"
Who was sneaking looks at him?
Lily ignored him, turning her head away to avoid getting into another argument.
"Move aside."
Ethan noticed Little Prince standing too close to Lily, holding her hand. He frowned and effortlessly moved the boy aside, saying coldly, "Stand still."
"Okay..." Little Prince looked up at Ethan in fear, holding back his tears, shoulders trembling.
Too scary!
His mom’s boss was way too scary!
"Why do you keep scaring him?" Lily frowned and pulled Little Prince back to her side.
She wanted to see how Ethan would behave around children...
With how he acted... she didn’t feel like saying anything about the baby.
"Why are you getting upset with me over some kid?!" Ethan glared at Little Prince again. This brat was getting in the way—he should be flushed down the toilet!
"I’m not upset," Lily said coolly, though her voice had an unmistakable note of worry.
Seeing how Ethan treated Little Prince and hearing him talk about how he planned to raise his child made her feel disheartened.
If he planned to dump the child on Nanny and yell at them when things didn’t go his way, what was the point in telling him now?
Could he be a good father? She should wait and see a bit longer.
The weather outside was beautiful—warm and sunny.
Ethan pulled the car to a stop before a McDonald’s and glared at Little Prince through the rearview mirror. "Get out!"
"I want KFC," Little Prince whimpered, "I want KFC."
"If you want to eat, get out of the car!" Ethan snapped, frowning. Why was this kid so annoying?
Lily glanced outside at the McDonald’s sign and felt a deep sense of frustration. She said slowly, "Ethan, this is McDonald’s."
He had brought a child to McDonald’s when the boy had asked for KFC?
A look of embarrassment crossed Ethan’s face. He quickly pulled up the GPS to find the nearest KFC and muttered a curse. "Damn."
Seeing him so flustered, Lily couldn’t help but stifle a laugh. The CEO of Blackwood Enterprise couldn’t even tell the difference between McDonald’s and KFC...
Ethan glanced in the rearview mirror, and when he saw the smile on her face, her entire expression brightened, making her look more beautiful and radiant.
That damned woman... she was smiling?
All of Ethan’s anger dissipated, and he felt much calmer as he started the car and drove toward KFC.
When they arrived at KFC, the atmosphere inside was peaceful and quiet. Lily led Little Prince to a booth by the window, where they sat. She glanced over at Ethan, standing in line, waiting to order their food.
