Chapter 179: A Day at KFC

The atmosphere in the KFC was peaceful and quiet. Lily led Little Prince to a booth by the window and glanced at Ethan Blackwood, standing in line to order.

Ethan was a man with a strong sense of male pride. Even though he considered standing in line beneath him, he would never let her do it.

"Mommy’s boss is really mean," Little Prince muttered, pouting as he stared in Ethan’s direction, clearly upset.

"But he’s here with you at KFC, right?" Lily tried to speak positively about Ethan, hoping Little Prince might warm up to him.

In reality, once you got to know Ethan, you would realize he wasn’t as bad as he seemed.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t have...

Wouldn’t have developed feelings for him...

Lily looked up at Ethan, standing in line. He stood tall, head and shoulders above the crowd, and she noticed several girls sneaking glances at him.

Ethan Blackwood had a way of surprising you with sudden moments of tenderness that could move you... Sometimes, his actions made her heart flutter in ways she couldn’t explain.

"He only yells at people. Lots of the secretaries have cried because of him," Little Prince said, his fair face puffed up in anger.

It’s true...

Ethan’s sharp tongue could either poison you or infuriate you to death...

"Don’t worry, he’s just a paper tiger. You don’t need to be afraid of him." Lily gently comforted Little Prince, ruffling his short hair.

"Will he really flush me down the toilet?" Little Prince asked timidly.

Ethan had scared the poor boy so badly...

"No, he won’t," Lily assured him, wiping his tears with a tissue.

Before long, Ethan returned empty-handed, angrily sitting across from them and glaring at Little Prince. "Brat, come sit over here!"

Did this kid really think he could sit beside his woman?!

Little Prince shrank back into Lily’s arms, nearly starting to sob again.

"Ethan... could you stop scaring the child, please?" Lily complained, furrowing her brows as she gently soothed Little Prince. "It’s alright, we’ll eat soon."

"But... but where’s the KFC?" Little Prince asked in a small voice, still huddling close to Lily.

He had yet to see Ethan bring any food. Where were the chicken legs? The wings? The soda? How were they supposed to eat?

"Ethan, where’s the food you ordered?" Lily asked, equally puzzled. He had gone to wait in line, so where was the food?

"Sir, ma’am, here’s your order," came a cheerful voice.

Lily turned to see five or six KFC staff members carrying trays piled high with food and setting them down on their tables.

The small table was soon covered with a mountain of food.

Little Prince stared in awe, his mouth hanging open, completely forgetting his earlier tears.

"Ethan, why did you order so much?" Lily asked in shock. Was he feeding an army of pigs?

"I didn’t know what they had," Ethan grumbled, glaring at Little Prince.

"And so?" Not knowing the menu, did he order this much?

"So I told them to give me three of everything." Ethan’s response was utterly matter-of-fact, as if he didn’t see anything excessive about it.

Lily was momentarily speechless, then muttered, "Show-off."

"Who are you calling a show-off?!" Ethan snapped, clearly annoyed. He had waited in line for so long and hadn’t even gotten a thank you. Now he was being called a show-off?!

A show-off was still better off than a fallen heiress like her. Was she jealous of his wealth?!

"Whoever’s upset is who I’m talking about," Lily said calmly.

Ethan glared at her but couldn’t find the words to refute her.

This woman was getting more and more audacious. Why did it feel like he was entirely at her mercy these days? Damn it!

Lily scanned the mountain of food on the table and tried to decide what to give Little Prince first. She spotted a sundae and handed it to Ethan.

Ethan raised an eyebrow. At least she knew to give him something first. Maybe she wasn’t completely hopeless.

"I don’t eat such sweet things," Ethan said haughtily, though he still took the strawberry sundae.

"I wasn’t giving it to you. I want you to feed it to Little Prince," Lily said, glancing at him before gently nudging Little Prince. "Little Prince, go sit with Ethan."

"I’m supposed to feed him?!" Ethan’s face darkened instantly. "Lily Anderson, what’s gotten into you?!"

He could understand feeding her, but feeding a kid ice cream? Was that going too far? What did she think he was, a nanny?!

"Can’t you be a bit more patient?" Lily’s tone turned cold.

"I’m very patient!" Ethan growled through clenched teeth. He would’ve thrown the ice cream in their face if it were anyone else.

It was only for Lily Anderson that he kept reining in his temper.

Yet she still had the nerve to say he wasn’t patient!

"Little Prince, be a good boy and go sit with him," Lily coaxed the reluctant boy.

She wanted to see if Ethan could get along with children—to know if he could be a good father.

"No, no, I want to sit with you," Little Prince whimpered, clinging to her.

Ethan’s mood soured even more. "Brat, if you keep hiding in her arms, I’ll throw you out! Get over here!"

He’s already this young and trying to take advantage of her? What will he do when he’s older?

His woman wasn’t going to let someone else get cozy with her!

Lily leaned down and whispered softly into Little Prince’s ear, "Don’t worry. He’s just a paper tiger. Go over and say something to him; he won’t get mad."

"Hurry up and get over here! Or do you not want to eat anymore?!" Ethan barked, his teeth practically grinding in frustration.

"Ethan, control your temper!" Lily snapped.

Trembling, Little Prince slowly made his way over to Ethan, staring up at him in fear. In a small, shaky voice, he said, "Uncle Ethan."

Ethan’s face turned even darker. "You call her ’Sister Lily’ but call me ’uncle’?!"

Lily nearly burst out laughing at the sight. This man... did he really care that much?

"I... I always call you that," Little Prince stammered, trying not to cry. His mom had taught him to say that. Why was Mommy’s boss so mean?

"Then call her ’aunt’!" Ethan insisted, taking it very seriously.

"Ethan..." Lily sighed, "It’s just a title..."

"Are you going to say it or not?!" Ethan demanded, still fixated on the matter.

Little Prince, despite being scared, was an honest child. Even though Ethan was intimidating, he bravely said, "But she’s young enough to be a sister Lily, not an aunt."

"Pfft..."

Lily couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

Ethan’s face darkened even further, and he shot her a glare. "Lily, are you enjoying this?!"

She had better stop pushing his buttons, or he might actually explode.

"Why are you arguing with a child?" Lily quickly stifled her laughter and pointed at the strawberry sundae before him. "Feed him already. Or do you want to be stuck babysitting Little Prince all day?"

Damn it!

Babysitting all day? He’d instead just shoot himself.

But facing a woman and a kid, Ethan had no outlet for his frustration and could only bottle it up.

"Eat!" Ethan barked at Little Prince, scooping up a large spoonful of ice cream and roughly shoving it into the boy’s mouth.

"Ugh... mmph..." Little Prince struggled to swallow the huge mouthful of ice cream.

"He’s just a kid; why are you feeding him so much at once?" Lily frowned, then asked seriously, "Ethan, do you really hate kids this much?"

He had absolutely no patience for children.

Would the baby in her belly ever get any fatherly love from him?

She didn’t want her child’s relationship with Ethan to be like Ethan’s relationship with his own father...

A father who physically abused his son, breaking his ribs, and the son not even daring to make a sound. That father-son relationship was too twisted—it sent chills down her spine.

"What’s there to like about kids? All they do is cry," Ethan muttered, glaring at Little Prince. However, he softened his grip, and this time, he scooped a much smaller spoonful of ice cream and held it out gently. "Eat."

Little Prince, too scared to protest, obediently ate the ice cream.

"Ethan, be a little kinder," Lily continued to urge Ethan, trying to see if he could be gentle and patient with children.

Ethan’s breaths were heavy, and his gaze was murderous, but his hand softened as he spooned more ice cream into Little Prince’s mouth.

As Ethan’s actions became gentler, Little Prince relaxed, and his fear of Ethan gradually faded. He started to eat the ice cream more comfortably, one bite at a time.

Seeing ice cream smeared around Little Prince’s mouth, Ethan grimaced in disgust and grabbed a napkin, wiping the boy’s face vigorously.

"Ow, that hurts..." Little Prince winced, and Ethan had to ease up on the pressure.

Lily watched the scene silently, a faint smile of satisfaction on her face as she observed.

Ethan could be good with kids if he wanted to... She just didn’t understand why he was so used to barking orders and being harsh with people.

Was it because he had grown too accustomed to being in control?

Lily handed a packet of fries across the table to Little Prince, who happily ate them, alternating between fries and ice cream while holding a burger and licking the mayonnaise.

Soon, Little Prince’s face lit up with a big smile of contentment.

"Little Prince, that’s enough. If you overeat, your stomach will hurt," Lily said, gently stopping him from overindulging. She glanced at the mountain of food on the table and sighed.

There was so much food left... What were they going to do with it?

The sound of a camera shutter snapped nearby.

Lily turned to see a KFC server with a Polaroid camera handing her a photo. Smiling, the server said, "Sir, ma’am, we’re collecting photos of happy families eating at KFC to display on the wall. You can keep this photo as a memento."

"No posting it!" Ethan immediately objected.

The server froze for a second, then smiled apologetically. "Of course, of course. We won’t post it if you don’t want us to. Enjoy your meal."

The server quickly walked away.

Lily looked at the photo. It showed her reaching across the table, feeding Little Prince a fry while the boy smiled happily.

As for Ethan, he was holding the ice cream in one hand and a napkin in the other, wiping Little Prince’s face with a scowl. His eyes were cold, and he looked as if someone had put a gun to his head and forced him to do it...

And this was supposed to be a happy family photo?!

Ethan’s face clearly said: Grumpy dad dragged to KFC against his will...

"Sister Lily, I need to go to the bathroom!" Little Prince suddenly said, putting down his burger.

"Call her ’Aunt’!" Ethan barked in frustration. How could this kid be so slow? No matter how often he was corrected, he still didn’t get it!

He was supposed to be "Uncle," and Lily was supposed to be "Aunt." Did this kid think Ethan was older than Lily? He was 26, not 62! Did he really look that much older than her?!

Little Prince stuck his tongue out at Lily playfully and quickly dashed away from Ethan.

Lily glanced at the still-seated Ethan. "Why aren’t you going with him?"
