30 Days of Passion and Revenge-Chapter 203: Lily’s Uncertainty
Alex hesitated momentarily, then slowly looked away from Lily, lowering his head to kiss Alice. Their lips locked tightly, and they kissed each other passionately, unable to pull apart.
"Alex isn’t so innocent. I guarantee that he and Alice will get back together soon! He’ll restore his image and gain a powerful father-in-law!" Ethan’s words echoed in Lily’s mind.
Lily silently turned and walked away. No, it couldn’t be like Ethan said...
Alex was a kind and good man. Like he said, there was no future between them. What was wrong with each of them finding their happiness?
How could it be like Ethan described, filled with schemes and manipulation?
Alex wouldn’t do that...
Lily bit her lip, desperately trying to convince herself.
When she returned to the OB-GYN’s office, she found Ethan sitting there, his face cold and stern. The doctor looked terrified, shrinking back in her chair, afraid to even look at Ethan.
Broken items were scattered all over the floor, and the office was in complete disarray.
Lily immediately sensed something was wrong. "What happened?"
"Nothing! Let’s go!" Ethan slammed the desk and stood up, his face dark with anger as he grabbed Lily’s hand and tried to pull her out of the office.
"But I haven’t heard what the doctor has to say about the baby’s condition," Lily said, confused, trying to pull her hand back.
Ethan gripped her hand tightly, not allowing her to free herself.
Lily glanced at the papers on the doctor’s desk—was that her medical report? A bad feeling surged through her.
Using all her strength, Lily broke from Ethan’s grasp and ran to the doctor’s desk, picking up the report. Her hands trembled with nerves.
The report was filled with lines and medical jargon she couldn’t understand...
"Is there something wrong with the baby?" Lily asked, her eyes fixed on the doctor.
"Lily Anderson!" Ethan frowned, stepping forward to grab her hand again, but Lily ignored him. Her gaze locked on the doctor, she anxiously repeated, "Doctor, what’s going on?"
Ethan shot the doctor a deadly glare, his eyes filled with menace.
The doctor swallowed nervously, more anxious than Lily, and stammered, "Miss Anderson, there were signs of a possible miscarriage, and because you became pregnant so soon after stopping birth control, it could affect the baby. Our hospital recommends... that you don’t keep the baby."
Lily’s face turned pale. "Are you saying the baby might be... deformed? Or mentally impaired?"
"There’s... there’s a chance, but it’s tiny." The doctor glanced fearfully at Ethan’s dark expression, answering cautiously.
Lily’s lips quivered as she looked up at Ethan. He held her hand tightly, and she could feel the coldness spreading through her fingers.
Desperately, she asked, "If I come in for regular check-ups and monitor the baby’s development, it should be fine, right?"
"Uh..." The doctor hesitated and glanced at Ethan.
Lily frowned, confused. "Why is she looking at you for an answer?"
What was going on?
Why was the doctor waiting for Ethan’s approval before answering her questions?
"He’s just a useless doctor!" Ethan said coldly, glaring at the doctor. He grabbed Lily’s hand and pulled her toward the door. "I’ll find you a real specialist."
Lily’s face was pale as she reluctantly followed Ethan out. Just before leaving the office, she asked again, "And how is the baby doing now?"
"Uh... everything is fine for now," the doctor quickly replied, sneaking a cautious glance at Ethan.
Lily followed Ethan out of the hospital, clinging to his arm. His voice was low as he said, "Don’t overthink it. I’ll have my secretary find the top specialist in this field."
Lily forced a smile. "It’s okay. The doctor was giving a recommendation, and the baby is fine right now."
"Do you want this baby?" Ethan asked, staring at her.
Lily’s smile faltered, turning pale. "The baby is fine for now. Don’t you want it? This is our first child."
"Yeah," Ethan replied in a low voice, holding her tightly.
Leaving the hospital, Ethan wrapped his arm around her as they walked down the street. Their driver followed slowly behind them in the car.
The sky was growing darker, heavy, and oppressive.
"It looks like it’s going to rain," Lily said, looking up at the gloomy sky. She then glanced at Ethan’s perpetually grim expression and felt a growing sense of unease...
Was there something wrong with the baby?
The previous doctor had told her that the miscarriage scare and the use of emergency contraceptives posed minimal risk. There shouldn’t be any problems.
"Ethan..." Lily tugged at his sleeve, her voice nervous. "Are you hiding something from me? The doctor said the baby is fine."
Why had he been so tense since they left the hospital?
"Let’s go shopping!" Ethan said abruptly, pulling her toward a large baby supply store.
Inside, the store was filled with adorable baby items. As she walked in, Lily felt her spirits lift.
If something were wrong with the baby, Ethan wouldn’t have brought her to a place like this, right?
He was just worried about the baby, right?
"Why are you staring at me?" Ethan asked, noticing Lily’s gaze fixed on him.
"Nothing." Lily smiled, turning her attention to the shelves full of baby products. She tried suppressing her urge to shop and said, "The baby isn’t born yet. Isn’t it a bit early to be buying all this?"
When she finished speaking, she turned just in time to see Ethan walking deeper into the store.
"We need to prepare the baby’s room!" Ethan said as he headed toward the children’s furniture section. With just a glance, he began pointing at different items: "That one, that one, and that one."
He picked out the most expensive items without even looking at the quality...
The salesperson followed behind him, her mouth agape, clearly in awe of the wealthy customer.
Lily quickly caught up to him, grabbing his hand to stop him from pointing at more things. "These are for the baby. Shouldn’t you at least check the quality?"
He was picking items solely based on price, not practicality.
"If it’s cheap, it’s bad quality," Ethan said matter-of-factly, about to choose more items. But Lily hurriedly stopped him. "That’s not how you pick things for a baby."
"How else do you pick?" Ethan frowned. "Compare each item one by one?"
Too much trouble.
"The baby isn’t born yet. You don’t even know if it’s a boy or a girl. You can’t just pick a pink bed for a boy, right?" Lily pointed to the pink bed he had selected earlier. He hadn’t even considered the color.
If they had a boy, it would be odd for him to sleep in a pink bed.
Ethan frowned, seeming to consider her words. Lily thought he had finally listened to her, so she smiled and said, "It’s better to wait until the baby is born before we buy anything."
There was no rush. They still had plenty of time to prepare the baby’s room.
Ethan didn’t respond to her suggestion but instead turned to the salesperson. "Do you have this bed in blue?"
"Yes, sir," the salesperson replied quickly.
"Great. I’ll take both colors. And I’ll take one of each item I picked in both boy and girl colors," Ethan said, glancing at Lily. "Problem solved?"
Lily looked at him, speechless. Ethan’s shopping habits were always like those of someone with new money...
She had tried to correct him countless times, but nothing ever changed.
Deciding to leave Ethan for his shopping, Lily wandered off to look around. Suddenly, she spotted a set of black-and-white striped parent-child outfits on display. The women’s outfit was a dress, and the men’s was a t-shirt, with small, trendy accessories added to the design. It was stylish and elegant.
It was an adorable set of parent-child outfits.
"This is our latest parent-child collection. Would you two like to try it on?" a friendly salesperson came over, smiling brightly. "If you wear these and let us take a photo for the store display, I can offer you a discount."
With such a handsome man and a beautiful woman, they could grab attention by displaying their photos outside the store. It would attract a lot of business.
"Store display?"
Lily looked at the parent-child outfits, imagining herself and Ethan as cardboard cutouts in front of a store.
"Yes, would you be willing to take a picture for us?" the salesperson asked eagerly.
Ethan would never agree to this.
"Sorry, we’re not interested in taking photos. But I’ll take the outfits; please wrap them up," Lily said, politely declining with a smile.
Ethan was different from the type who let his photos be displayed publicly. Even a single clear picture of him could cause a media frenzy. He valued his privacy and kept it well-guarded.
"Of course. I’ll wrap them for you."
Lily took one last look at the parent-child outfits with a hint of regret. She and Ethan looked good in them, but they could take some photos after the baby was born.
They could hang them in their home.
As she turned around, she saw Ethan standing not far away, staring at her intently. His eyes were as dark as ink, deep and unreadable as if he was lost in thought.
"Were you spying on me?" Lily asked playfully as she walked over to him, her eyes sparkling like stars, a soft smile on her lips, and a clean, natural face free from the world’s harshness.
Every bit of her made his heart stir.
Ethan continued to stare at her. "Do you want to take the picture?"
"What?" Lily didn’t understand at first.
"The cardboard cutout." He had clearly noticed her interest in the salesperson’s suggestion.
She wanted to take that picture.
"No," Lily said with a smile, shaking her head. She reached out and took his hand, their fingers interlocking as she leaned against him.
No?
"You said you wouldn’t lie to me anymore. You’re lying," Ethan frowned. She wasn’t being honest. If she wanted to take the picture, she should say it.
Was this considered lying?
She assumed he wouldn’t want to be a living advertisement for the store...
"I’m not lying... I didn’t want to take the picture," Lily said affectionately, squeezing his hand like a bird snuggling up to him. "We can take pictures at home instead."
She wasn’t someone who liked to show off in public anyway.
She had only been intrigued by the idea of the cardboard cutout.
Ethan stared at her momentarily, then suddenly pulled her over to where the salesperson was wrapping the clothes. "Take the picture!"
The salesperson was overjoyed. "Of course! I’ll get everything ready right away. Please change into the outfits."
"You want to take the picture?" Lily asked, surprised.
"We are going to take the picture!" Ethan replied. He hated taking solo photos. What was the point? But if she wanted to take one, he would do it.
"But you don’t like having your picture taken by others," Lily said, confused. Why had he suddenly changed his mind?
Although Ethan was arrogant and domineering in his personal life, he was always low-key regarding the media. There were barely any clear pictures of him, and the last time they were at KFC, he hadn’t wanted anyone to take his photo.
