30 Days of Passion and Revenge-Chapter 202: The Hospital Visit
Ethan’s hand caressed Lily’s face, his breathing growing more rapid as he moved from her sensitive ear to kiss her face, his lips and tongue working in tandem...
"Do you want to take another cold shower?" Lily’s voice broke through just before her mind was utterly lost in the moment. Even though her voice was husky and weak, it still managed to douse Ethan’s passion like a bucket of ice water.
It was a freezing shock.
Damn it... The first three months of pregnancy—no touching, no touching, no touching...
"Shit!" Ethan cursed under his breath.
At least she had regained control of herself in the face of Ethan’s overwhelming allure. She had almost lost it.
"You promised not to swear in front of me," Lily said, her voice more steady as she picked up the bowl beside her and blinked innocently. "Here’s some pear and snow fungus dessert—good for cooling down."
Ethan shot her a fierce glare and snatched the bowl from her hand, gulping the sweet soup in large mouthfuls. However, it did nothing to cool him down...
The woman in his arms was the only thing that could quell the fire inside him.
But the very woman he couldn’t touch! It was pure torture!
Seeing his frustrated expression, Lily laughed and asked, "Ethan, are you free tomorrow?"
"What for?!" Ethan snapped, still annoyed.
"I have a follow-up appointment tomorrow. Will you come with me?" Lily asked hopefully.
The thought of them going to the doctor together to hear about their baby made her happy.
"I’m coming!" Ethan huffed, still acting as if he was doing her a favor.
Lily pointed to the tray beside them. "There’s another bowl. Do you want it?"
This pear and snow fungus dessert really could help cool him down...
"Lily, you better hope this baby stays in your stomach forever. That way, you can lord over me for the rest of your life!" Ethan growled through gritted teeth.
"Otherwise, once the baby is born, I’ll ensure you can’t get out of bed!" He would make up for all the lost time—the time he’d been forced to abstain.
She shouldn’t expect any mercy from him when that time came!
"After the baby is born, I’ll still need to rest for a month," Lily replied calmly.
Ethan’s face immediately darkened.
"Didn’t that book tell you that?"
Smack—
Ethan threw the book aside, his face black with frustration. Damn it, why did giving birth have to be so complicated?!
Grabbing the TV remote, Ethan turned on the TV, too irritated to look at the pregnancy magazine again.
"Mayor Johnson’s daughter, Alice Johnson, will soon face trial for attempted murder, but reports have surfaced that she tried to commit suicide under the pressure of the public scandal and her impending trial. It has now been confirmed that she attempted to slit her wrists at home."
Lily’s eyes widened in shock. Alice Johnson tried to commit suicide?!
Seeing her reaction, Ethan moved to turn off the TV, but Lily stopped him. "Don’t turn it off. Let me watch."
Because of the media frenzy surrounding her and Alex’s scandal, Lily hadn’t watched the news in a long time.
She had no idea what was happening in the outside world anymore.
Her life now revolved around home, school, and Ethan’s company.
"According to reliable sources, her former fiancé, Mr. Carter, arrived just in time to prevent the tragedy from happening."
The news anchor continued her report. "After all the scandals, could Mr. Carter and Alice Johnson be rekindling their romance?"
The screen showed a photo of Alex carrying a pale-faced Alice out of a mansion, her hand covered in blood...
It was a disturbing sight.
Instinctively, Lily gripped Ethan’s hand, a chill creeping up her spine.
"Staged!" Ethan scoffed coldly as he reached to turn off the TV. "What’s so interesting about this?"
"Staged?"
"How convenient that the media managed to capture such a clear photo?" Ethan sneered. "Weren’t you a paparazzo? You can’t see through this?"
Or was it that when it came to Alex, Lily couldn’t see reality anymore?!
"Maybe because the trial is coming up, many media outlets are camped outside the Johnson residence."
Lily understood what Ethan was implying.
That Alex was using Alice’s suicide attempt to restore his public image. But that couldn’t be true... Alex wouldn’t pull a stunt like that.
"The Johnson family is powerful. Do you think the paparazzi could get close that easily?" Ethan asked, glancing down at her cold hand with a frown. "This is all part of Alex’s grand show."
And yet she still had the nerve to defend Alex!
"It’s just a coincidence," Lily insisted. Maybe others would resort to such tactics, but Alex wouldn’t. He wasn’t the type to play mind games.
"A coincidence?"
Ethan let out a cold laugh. "Ever since you and Alex got together, Alice has been portrayed as the victim in the media. Now, you’re definitely not going to testify in court, so the public will assume the attempted murder in the locker room never happened. With her suicide attempt, Alice is now being solidified as the victim in the eyes of the public."
Ethan’s analysis was logical and left Lily unable to argue.
At this moment, Alice’s being seen by Alice could rebuild his image.
"He wouldn’t do that," Lily shook her head again. She just couldn’t believe Alex would do something like this.
It wasn’t possible.
It was absolutely impossible.
"Lily! Are you still going to argue with me?!"
Ethan’s face darkened as he grew more frustrated. Why was this woman so stubborn when it came to Alex? Did she believe Alex was some kind of prince, squeaky clean and free of schemes?
Not wanting to anger Ethan further, Lily quickly ended the conversation. "Okay, okay, I won’t talk about it anymore!"
She then leaned into Ethan’s embrace, not saying another word.
Ethan glared down at her as she snuggled into his arms, speaking slowly and deliberately. "Alex isn’t as clean as you think. I guarantee you that he and Alice Johnson will get back together soon! He’ll restore his image and gain a powerful father-in-law!"
Lily pressed her lips together tightly. Alex wasn’t someone who would resort to manipulation. Ethan didn’t understand Alex—he wasn’t like that at all.
At the hospital, Ethan walked inside with his arm around Lily. This was the city’s best private hospital, where most of the patients were high-society women, each one followed by an entourage of assistants.
Ethan hated waiting, so the most experienced doctors and the best equipment had already been prepared for them.
After a series of routine tests, Lily and Ethan sat in the doctor’s office, waiting for the results. Ethan, growing impatient, glanced at his watch.
Noticing this, Lily asked, "Do you have something urgent to do?"
Hadn’t he said he was free today?
"No, I’m just waiting for a report," Ethan replied, his voice low, as he instinctively pulled her into his arms.
"A report?"
After a brief pause, Ethan answered hoarsely, "About Aiko."
"You’re investigating Aiko?" Lily was surprised. Why was he suddenly investigating Aiko Nakamura?
Did he still have some unresolved issues with her?
"I suspect she’s more than just the daughter of a wealthy Japanese company," Ethan said, pulling her closer and speaking in a possessive tone. "From now on, stay away from her."
The way he said it sounded strange.
Lily chuckled and looked at him. "Shouldn’t I be the one telling you that?"
She was the one who had to worry about Aiko going after him. How did it turn into him warning her to stay away from Aiko?
Was Aiko secretly interested in her?
Aiko’s obsession with Ethan was beyond what Lily had expected. Even after everything, Aiko could still boldly declare her love for him!
"Just remember what I said," Ethan replied, his voice profound and severe, his handsome face stern. He wasn’t joking.
Seeing this, Lily nodded and stood up from his embrace. "I’m going to the bathroom."
"Mm," Ethan nodded.
After washing her hands in the bathroom, Lily suddenly remembered that Ethan’s left arm still wasn’t fully functional. Maybe she should consult a specialized rehabilitation doctor?
But which department handled physical therapy?
As Lily looked around, walking toward the hospital’s information board, she suddenly heard a tearful voice.
"Why don’t you leave me alone? Do you even care what my life has been like these past few days?"
The voice sounded very familiar.
Lily leaned forward to take a look and saw a woman in a hospital gown standing with her back to her, crying and shouting at the man in front of her.
The man was none other than Alex.
And the woman... it had to be Alice Johnson, the woman whose suicide attempt had been all over the news.
Alex held Alice by the arm, his usually gentle face filled with worry and concern. His brows furrowed as he said, "Don’t act like this. Let’s go back to your room. If a paparazzo sneaks in and takes photos, they’ll write all kinds of things."
"Just go! I don’t want your sympathy. I begged you, but you were determined to leave me for Lily! Now that I’ve lost all hope and wanted to die, I don’t need you anymore. Why are you still here? I don’t want you to see me like this!"
Alice pushed his hand away, her voice loud and hysterical.
"Warm, I won’t leave you alone," Alex said, pulling her into his arms and gently patting her back. "You can’t get too emotional. The doctor said it’s bad for your health."
"I don’t want your pity," Alice sobbed loudly, hitting Alex’s chest over and over again with her fists.
Alex endured the pain, letting her hit him, his arms still wrapped around her.
"I’m not pitying you."
As soon as the words left Alex’s mouth, Alice froze in his arms, no longer moving.
Lily stood quietly, watching from a distance without making a sound.
"If I hadn’t attempted suicide, if I hadn’t sent you that goodbye message, would you have come? You only care about Lily! No matter what I do or how much I try to be like her, you’ll never look at me."
Alice’s sobs were quieter now, her voice trembling as she cried.
Alex held her even tighter, his brown eyes flickering with emotion. He seemed to want to say something, but the words wouldn’t come...
Suddenly, Alex looked up and saw Lily standing there, motionless.
His eyes widened in shock, his gaze fixed on her while his arms wrapped around Alice.
Lily’s face remained expressionless as she silently watched him.
After a long pause, Alex spoke, his eyes still locked on Lily. He carefully enunciated each word as he said, "There’s no future for me and her. Warm, I won’t abandon you."
"Are you lying to me?" Alice asked through her sobs.
"I’m not lying."
Alex said, his eyes still on Lily. Alice, still crying, lifted her head from his chest and wrapped her arms around his neck.
After a moment of hesitation, Alex’s gaze slowly shifted away from Lily, and he lowered his head to kiss Alice. Their lips pressed together, and they kissed passionately, seemingly unable to pull apart.
