30 Days of Passion and Revenge-Chapter 206: Suspecting Poisoning
Lily froze in place, and only then did the realization hit her—she had accidentally kneed Ethan Blackwood in her excitement when she sat up...
Boom.
Once she understood, her face turned bright red. Looking at Ethan’s tense expression, she felt incredibly embarrassed. "Are... are you okay?"
"What do you think?" Ethan glared at her, his fury barely contained. He looked like he wanted to devour her whole.
Is all this excitement just because of a call from a director? Was it worth getting this worked up over? Matthew Williams practically groveled every time he saw Ethan acting like a lapdog. And yet, here she was, ecstatic about working with him!
She had never been this excited about anything involving him.
This woman... He might as well strangle her!
"Maybe... you should go to the hospital?" Lily offered weakly, guilt evident in her voice as she reached out to touch his face, brushing against the thin layer of sweat on his skin.
It seemed she had hurt him... It must have been painful...
"The hospital?!" Ethan roared even louder, his voice echoing. Wasn’t it humiliating enough to be hit by his own woman? And now she wanted him to go to the hospital to make it even worse?
Lily flinched at his outburst, her heart racing. Blushing, she mumbled, "Then... maybe we could have a doctor come to the house? That... part of the body... it could be serious or not..."
What if something bad happened? She couldn’t bear the consequences.
"Then how about we test whether I’m okay right now?" Ethan growled through gritted teeth, grabbing her hand and pinning her down on the bed.
Over the past few days, Ethan had mastered a particular skill—pressing her down without putting any pressure on her stomach while letting his hands roam freely over her body...
This man was a complete wolf!
"Ethan..."
"Call me Honey," Ethan demanded, his burning gaze locked on her as his face inched closer to hers.
"I’m not calling you by the name Aiko used," Lily said quickly. She had considered calling him that before but remembered how Aiko Nakamura would call him "Honey" so affectionately. It left a sour taste in her mouth.
"Jealousy bucket!" Ethan sneered, lowering his head to capture her lips, silencing her with a deep kiss. His hand slipped beneath her dress, caressing every inch of her soft skin, teasing and provoking her.
"Mm..." Lily was soon lost in his kiss, letting out a soft whimper.
"Do you feel it?" Ethan asked huskily.
"Feel what?" Lily opened her dazed eyes to look at him, only to realize the complex, heated pressure against her through his pants.
Her face turned crimson once again as she understood what he meant, and she instinctively raised her hand to smack him. This man could never behave properly!
Amused by her flushed face, Ethan gave a low chuckle, leaning down to kiss her lips again.
"Mr. Blackwood, Miss Anderson..." Nanny’s voice came from the doorway. Upon seeing the fiery scene inside, she walked in and let out a startled "Ah!" before quickly turning away.
These young people didn’t even know to lock the door...
Ethan swiftly pulled the blanket over Lily’s slightly exposed body. Then, he paused, realizing it was unnecessary—Nanny had bathed her before. What was there to hide?
Just as he was about to toss the blanket aside, Lily clung tightly to the edges, refusing to let him pull it away. Her face was as red as a ripe apple, filled with embarrassment and frustration as she glared at him.
Her gaze seemed to say: If you dare lift the blanket, I’ll die here.
Ethan gave up, smoothing down his shirt before turning to Nanny. "What is it?"
"The children’s furniture Mr. Blackwood ordered has arrived," Nanny said awkwardly, facing away from them. "Where should we put it?" 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Hearing this, Lily forgot her embarrassment and peeked her head out from the blanket, excitement lighting up her face. "It’s here already?"
Her face was filled with joy.
Ethan’s expression darkened slightly as Lily eagerly pulled him off the bed. "Let’s go take a look."
Earlier at the mall, she had said they should wait until the baby was born to buy furniture. But now that it had arrived, she was more excited than anyone else.
"Ethan, how about we set up the nursery next to the master bedroom?" Lily pushed open the door to the adjacent guest room. It was rarely used, as Ethan wasn’t the type to have guests over. She had never seen him have close friends—just people who worked under him.
Placing the nursery next to the master bedroom would make it easier to care for the baby in the future.
"Okay," Ethan replied, his gaze fixed on her radiant face.
"Both rooms on either side of the master bedroom could work," Lily said, pulling Ethan into the guest room as she excitedly discussed arranging the nursery. "Let’s put the crib here, okay?"
"Okay."
"We should lay down a play mat on the floor. Babies love crawling."
"Okay."
"How about we put the inflatable toy set over there? We can play with the baby."
"Okay."
After hearing several "okay" s, Lily felt like cold water had been poured over her enthusiasm. She looked at Ethan’s stoic face and asked, "Why do you keep saying ’okay’ to everything?"
When they were picking furniture, all he cared about was the price. When arranging the nursery, he could only say, "Okay."...
"Do you want me to say ’no’ instead?"
This man... She wanted him to be more involved, offer suggestions, and show excitement.
All he did was say, "Okay." It felt like he didn’t care at all.
Lily stood on her tiptoes, wrapping her hands around his neck and pressing her forehead against his. "Ethan, you can’t leave everything to Nanny after the baby is born. You’re the father. You need to bond with the baby."
Ethan lowered his gaze to look at her, his chest tightening.
The baby... even keeping it was still a question.
"And no matter if it’s a boy or a girl, you must love them," Lily said seriously.
She had seen him threaten Secretary Helen’s child, saying he’d flush him down the toilet...
Their baby couldn’t be threatened like that by its father.
"Why aren’t you saying anything?" Lily frowned at Ethan’s cold expression. Was he annoyed by her nagging? She was trying to teach him...
Suddenly, Ethan pulled her into a tight embrace.
He held her so tightly it almost hurt as if he was afraid she might disappear.
"What’s wrong?" Lily asked, confused.
"Just holding you," Ethan muttered. He didn’t say anything more, simply tightening his grip on her. His dark eyes slowly closed.
Lily couldn’t help but chuckle. What had come over this man all of a sudden?
She didn’t say anything more, letting him hold her quietly.
A Few Days Later, Outside the City’s Biological Research Institute
A row of luxury cars was parked neatly outside, and bodyguards stood in two straight lines. The driver opened the door and said respectfully, "Mr. Blackwood."
Ethan stepped out of the car, dressed in a long black coat. His imposing aura was unmistakable. His tall, lean figure, sharp, short hair, and flawlessly chiseled features exuded dominance as his piercing gaze locked onto the research building ahead.
"Mr. Blackwood, Professor Harris is waiting for you inside," the driver informed him deferentially.
This answer—this result—was something Ethan had to know sooner or later.
His chest felt heavy, and he instinctively loosened the tie that felt too tight around his neck before striding into the building.
The hallways of the research institute were cold and eerily quiet, devoid of people except for the occasional professor in a white lab coat walking by with instruments.
"Mr. Blackwood, we’ve arrived," one of the bodyguards said, pushing open the door to an office.
Ethan halted in front of the doorway, pausing momentarily before stepping inside.
An elderly professor with sparse white hair stood hurriedly from behind his desk, bowing respectfully. "Mr. Blackwood."
"Mm," Ethan acknowledged coldly, sitting at the desk.
The professor also sat down, flipping through the documents in his hands. "Based on the blood sample you sent for testing, we’ve confirmed it contains AuroraVirus."
Confirmed.
Ethan’s eyes closed briefly. They were filled with a cold, steely light when he opened them again. His breathing grew heavier, and his expression turned icy, exuding a chilling aura.
The professor handed him the report and continued, "AuroraVirus is a bacterium developed by terrorist groups in Central Asia. The research was incomplete before dismantling their operation, so AuroraVirus isn’t a fully developed biological weapon. However, there is currently no known antidote."
"Antidote?" Ethan asked, his voice cold and trembling slightly.
"Yes. In essence, AuroraVirus is a type of poison. In Central Asia, there are still patients infected with it, as the bacterium can spread through blood transmission," the professor explained.
Ethan’s gaze fell on the blood analysis charts in the report. His voice was low and sharp. "It can’t be cured?"
"If it could be cured..."
The professor shook his head gravely. "We’re the only country currently researching AuroraVirus. No antidote has yet been developed, and we don’t even have many domestic cases. That’s why I suspect... someone poisoned her."
Poisoned?!
Someone dared to poison his woman?!
A murderous glint flashed in Ethan’s eyes. "Go on!"
"Based on your information, Miss Anderson has never been to Central Asia or had contact with anyone from there. She shouldn’t have been infected by all logic," the professor continued logically.
"Keep talking!"
"While this isn’t an immediately fatal condition, after the incubation period, the patient will experience increasing weakness, lethargy, hair loss, and unbearable body pain, making normal life impossible."
Making everyday life impossible.
Ethan clenched his fists tightly.
The professor carefully observed his expression before continuing, "In most cases, the condition lasts about ten years. Eventually... organ failure leads to death."
Organ failure... death.
Bang!
Ethan slammed his fist on the desk and stood abruptly, towering over the professor. His voice was icy as he asked, "If we find the person who poisoned her, can we find the antidote?!"
"You can pursue that lead, but there’s no guarantee of success," the professor replied, shrinking back slightly under Ethan’s menacing glare. "I’ll contact international experts on AuroraVirus to expedite the development of an antidote."
No guarantee?
AuroraVirus had existed for years, and no one had developed an antidote yet. Who could promise one would be created in ten years?
And how could Lily endure for ten years? She was already so frail... How could she survive?
"What about a complete blood transfusion?" Ethan asked, leaning over the desk, his fists pressed against it, veins bulging.
"It wouldn’t work," the professor said, shaking his head. "It’s impossible to clear the infection entirely. Moreover, Miss Anderson’s body is already weak, and she’s pregnant. She’s not suitable for such a procedure."
"..."
Frustrated, Ethan punched the desk again, his breathing uneven.
"Mr. Blackwood, AuroraVirus has an incubation period of two weeks to two months. You can start by investigating the people Miss Anderson has been in contact with during that time," the professor suggested, trying to narrow the search.
