Chapter 207: Poison Investigation

"Mr. Blackwood, AuroraVirus has a short incubation period of about two weeks to two months. You should investigate the people Miss Anderson has been in contact with during this period," the professor advised, helping Ethan narrow the search range.

The people she’s been in contact with over the past two weeks to two months?!

Damn it!

Lily had come into contact with so many people—how was he supposed to track them all down?!

"There’s one more thing," the professor added. "AuroraVirus can also be transmitted orally. You must be careful not to ingest Miss Anderson’s blood, or you’ll get infected too."

Blood transmission. Oral transmission...

Damn it!

How was he supposed to cast a net wide enough to catch the culprit?!

As Ethan stormed out of the research institute, flipping through the analysis report in his hands, his breathing was erratic, and the fury radiating off him was explosive.

That day at the hospital, when the doctor mentioned that Lily might be infected with AuroraVirus, Ethan had nearly flipped the table!

Someone dared to target his woman?!

If he found out who it was, he’d make them wish for death but find no escape!

"Secretly capture everyone who’s ever had a grudge against me. Then, we will investigate every person Lily Anderson has been in contact with over the past two months, one by one. Take them all!" Ethan growled, throwing the report aside. His voice was cold and menacing, and his gaze was filled with murderous intent.

Sitting in the front passenger seat, Cipher Stone immediately nodded. "Yes, Mr. Blackwood."

Capturing every single person who had ever crossed paths with or wronged Ethan? That was no small task—especially since those people weren’t ordinary.

It seemed that things were about to get bloody.

With Ethan’s methods, there was no telling how big a storm this would cause. Some would undoubtedly die under torture—that was a certainty.

Ethan had always been ruthless. He had never shown mercy to his enemies.

Since Ethan started being with Lily, the bodyguards hadn’t seen this murderous intent in his eyes for some time.

"If Miss Anderson is infected with AuroraVirus, it’s best not to keep the baby. A child’s immune system isn’t as strong as an adult’s, and even if the baby is born, it wouldn’t survive for long."

That’s what the doctor had told him.

"The child has to be terminated. Even if there’s an antidote to cure Miss Anderson, the baby in her womb may already be infected with AuroraVirus. If born, the baby will only suffer." Professor Harris had warned him. "Mr. Blackwood, no matter what, you need to terminate the pregnancy as soon as possible."

Sitting in the car, Ethan pressed his fingers against his temples. Lily was so in love with this baby. If he told her, they couldn’t keep it...

No. She would break down.

There had to be a way to solve this... there had to be!

Ethan yanked at his tie in frustration, trying to catch his breath. He had pulled at it several times, leaving it crooked and wrinkled.

"Mr. Blackwood, we have a problem," Cipher Stone suddenly turned around, his voice tense.

"What is it now?"

As if things weren’t bad enough already, now this?

"It’s Miss Anderson. She went to a hospital for a checkup," Cipher said, his tone filled with concern. "Should we...?"

Ethan froze. She went for another checkup?!

She was clever enough to sense that something was wrong. That day at the hospital, the doctor had done a good job of covering up the truth, but she still had her suspicions.

"Handle it!" Ethan ordered coldly, his gaze icy.

"Understood, Mr. Blackwood." Cipher nodded and immediately instructed the bodyguards on the other end of the line.

After completing a series of tests in the hospital, Lily handed the female doctor a bouquet of flowers. "Thank you for your hard work."

The doctor took the flowers and sniffed them, smiling warmly. "You’re clever—no red envelopes, just chocolates and flowers. Are you trying to woo me?"

"Would you accept my advances?" Lily joked with a smile. "Thank you for taking care of me during my hospital stay. And for helping me again this time."

"You’re such a sweet talker. All right, our hospital can’t compare to the efficiency of private ones. Once your test results are ready, I’ll call you," the doctor said as she placed the flowers in a vase.

"Okay, thank you. I’ll head out now."

"Bye-bye."

"Bye-bye."

Lily left the hospital with an uneasy heart. Ever since leaving the private hospital that day, Ethan’s behavior had seemed... strange.

She couldn’t pinpoint why, but unease lingered in her heart as if something terrible would happen.

This feeling... She had experienced it before—when she and Alex decided to announce their engagement. In the end, they became strangers.

She didn’t want to relive that kind of terrible premonition.

Back in the hospital, a group of solemn-looking bodyguards stormed through the hallways, swiftly reaching the female doctor’s office. They opened the door without hesitation and filed in with military precision.

"Who are you?" the doctor asked, shocked. She had admired the flowers on her desk when the group barged in. Startled, she almost screamed.

One of the bodyguards pulled out a silenced gun and aimed it at her.

The doctor’s face turned pale as a sheet. Two of the bodyguards quickly closed the curtains.

The bodyguard with the gun fired a single shot.

The vase on the desk shattered, scattering the flowers and shards across the desk.

The doctor collapsed back into her chair, terrified.

"You’re handling Miss Lily Anderson’s test results, correct?" The armed bodyguard put the gun away and approached her, his face expressionless.

The doctor nodded dumbly.

"Remember this: she’s perfectly fine. She’s healthy, and so is her baby. Got it?"

Was she supposed to repeat these exact words to Miss Anderson?

The doctor nodded again, still in shock. Who was this Lily Anderson, and why did such a terrifying group come for her?

"Good. Now, where is the blood sample from her test?"

"It’s... it’s in the lab," the doctor stammered. "I... I’ll destroy it."

So Lily Anderson’s blood... was it problematic?

"Remember, if a single word about this gets out, you won’t live to see tomorrow."

"U-understood," the doctor stammered, nodding frantically.

As organized as they had entered, the bodyguards filed out of the office. The doctor sat frozen, staring at the shattered vase and scattered flowers, unable to compose herself for a long time.

Lily had officially joined the Kill production crew as an on-set assistant director. Thinking back, she remembered how, at the beginning of the production, she had once snuck in as a paparazzo to interview Emily Prescott...

Now, Emily had been replaced by another A-list actress.

When Lily saw Aiko Nakamura on set, her first instinct was to turn around and leave. Why did she keep running into this woman everywhere she went?

"I’m the second female lead in this movie, playing the emperor’s concubine," Aiko said sweetly as she approached Lily after a day of filming, her smile seemingly innocent. "What do you think? Wasn’t my performance great?"

Lily forced a polite smile and walked away.

The day’s work was done, and she no longer intended to stick around to deal with Aiko.

Every time she saw Aiko, she got a headache.

"Lily..." Aiko called after her, lifting the heavy skirt of her costume as she followed. "I have a car. Let me give you a ride home."

"You want to drive me home so you can see Ethan? Do I look that stupid?" Lily said coldly. "I have my own car."

With that, she turned and left without looking back.

"Be careful, don’t walk too fast. Think of the baby," Aiko called out sweetly behind her.

Lily almost stumbled. Turning around, she stared at Aiko in shock. "How do you know I’m pregnant?"

"There are many things I know," Aiko said with a gentle smile, holding up her skirt. "For example... I know Ethan would never propose to you."

Her words hit Lily like a slap.

"If he won’t propose to me, does that mean he’ll propose to you?" Lily sneered.

Aiko blinked. "Maybe. Maybe he’ll tire of you soon." 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

"Keep dreaming," Lily said coldly before walking to the car waiting for her.

Once inside, she glanced out the window. Aiko stood there, waving at her with a bright, innocent smile.

Aiko really was a skilled actress. Her smile was pure and innocent off-camera, but on set, her portrayal of a scheming concubine was chillingly convincing. Even the director praised her repeatedly.

That might have been why Lily felt deeply uncomfortable every time she saw Aiko’s innocent smile.

How did Aiko know she was pregnant? And why had Ethan suddenly started investigating her? What had he found?

Lily had yet to ask Ethan about the results of his investigation. What was Aiko’s accurate background?

The more Lily thought about it, the more confused she became. She didn’t know what to make of Aiko.

Back at the villa, Lily sipped on Nanny’s nourishing soup, chatting idly with her.

"Nanny, what do you think of Aiko Nakamura?"

"Why bring up Miss Nakamura all of a sudden?" Nanny asked, assuming Lily was still bothered by Aiko’s past relationship with Ethan. She quickly defended him. "Mr. Blackwood only has eyes for you now. Look at how he comes home every day after work."

Nanny really knew how to speak up for Ethan.

"I’m just asking for your opinion on her," Lily said, sipping the mildly sweet soup. She was starting to feel like all the supplements Nanny made were making her gain weight.

"Miss Nakamura?" Nanny thought for a moment before sighing. "She’s a good person, but she’s too stubborn. Although he can’t stand her, she keeps clinging to Mr. Blackwood."

Just stubborn?

That’s too simple...

"I saw her acting as a scheming concubine today, and she was incredible, completely unlike her usual self. I was chilling just watching her," Lily said, still unsettled by the performance.

Perhaps it was because she had grown used to Aiko’s sunny, innocent smile. Seeing her play such a malicious role felt jarring.

It proved that Aiko was a highly professional actress, far better than Emily Prescott.

"A scheming concubine?" Nanny was taken aback. "What did that look like?"

Miss Nakamura always seemed like the girl-next-door type—sweet and innocent. How could she play such a role? Was it all internal acting?

Seeing Nanny’s surprise, Lily felt her reaction wasn’t too far off. Aiko’s performance had indeed been unexpectedly impressive.

"I’m done," Lily said, setting her empty bowl down. Standing up from the dining table, she took only a few steps before her hand suddenly weakened. The bowl slipped from her grasp and shattered on the floor.

"Oh no, Miss Anderson! I told you to leave the dishes to me. Why do you always insist on doing our work?" Nanny exclaimed in alarm.

"Sorry," Lily apologized. "I’ve just been a bit tired these past few days from working on set."
