Chapter 283: Lily, I miss you.

Lily Anderson’s pale face suddenly flashed before his eyes—

"Lily Anderson, we’re breaking up."

"To be precise, I don’t want you anymore!"

"What’s wrong, little pitiful one? Never been dumped by a man? Step aside, I’m leaving."

"Fine. I’ll grant your wish if you’re not afraid to die!"

Memories rushed in like a floodgate had been opened, pouring out uncontrollably...

So, it was true—they had really broken up.

He... had dumped Lily. He had let go of a woman he had fought so hard to win over...

"Mr. Blackwood, there’s a call for you. It’s Lily," a maid said, walking over with his phone in hand.

Lily?!

Ethan’s eyes lit up. He strode over, crossing the distance in two quick steps.

Tommy, noticing this, swiftly snatched the phone from the maid’s hand. Before he could hang up, Ethan landed a heavy punch on him, sending him sprawling to the ground.

Ethan glared at him coldly, his expression filled with fury. He bent down and grabbed the phone from Tommy’s hand.

"You’ll regret answering that call!" Tommy groaned, his whole body aching from the fall.

"Shut up!" Ethan snapped, glaring at him before staggering out of the dining room and heading upstairs with the phone.

Tommy scrambled to his feet, intending to chase after him. "Ethan! You can’t take that call! Give me the phone!"

Bang!

Ethan slammed the door shut and locked it, leaving Tommy outside.

The night was heavy with rain, the streets gradually emptying of pedestrians.

Inside her room at the 30-Day Memory Hotel, Lily sat holding the phone, her hand unconsciously twisting the cord. All she could hear were muffled sounds as if an argument was on the other end.

It seemed like the Blackwood brothers were fighting, but she couldn’t determine what it was about...

The silence was as thick as molasses, stretching out on the line between them until it was shattered by Ethan’s voice, deep and magnetic. "Lily," he said, uttering her name like a sacred incantation. The simplicity of those four letters held an ocean of emotion that threatened to drown Lily.

Her heart clenched painfully in her chest, tears welling up in her hazel eyes. She had been so sure he wouldn’t answer her call. That he had moved on, leaving her behind in his wake. Yet here he was, his voice resonating through the phone line and wrapping around her like a comforting blanket.

Silence descended once more, and Lily could feel the thread connecting them start to fray. Panic surged within her as she scrambled for words, any words to keep him from severing their connection entirely.

Then Ethan spoke again, his voice laced with a seductive charm that was almost lethal. "Lily," he murmured softly into the receiver. "Do you miss me?" His question hung heavy in the air between them – four simple words that bore into her soul like a hot knife.

Each syllable echoed inside Lily’s head, resonating with the ache in her heart - bittersweet and raw. Tears spilled from her eyes without warning; they were hot against her cold cheeks and tasted of lost love and longing.

She caught herself before she could fall apart completely and managed to choke out a response. "What about you?" Her voice trembled on the brink of breaking under the weight of unspoken feelings.

"I do," came Ethan’s immediate reply, ringing with sincerity that made Lily’s heart flutter erratically in her chest. He leaned back against a door somewhere far away from where she lay alone on an unfamiliar bed in a hotel room that felt too big without him.

His shadow cast long across the floor beneath him looked lonely - much like how Lily felt in her heart. Ethan’s gaze dropped to the floor, his mind lost in a whirlwind of emotions he had tried so hard to suppress.

"Lily," he whispered into the phone, each word drawn out as if they were being ripped from his very soul. "I miss you. I want to kiss you. I want to hold you." His confession was raw and honest, causing Lily’s tears to fall even harder.

His words echoed through the phone line, wrapping around her like a warm embrace. It was as if he was right there beside her, holding her close while whispering sweet nothings into her ear.

Confusion clouded Lily’s mind as she asked the question that had been haunting her since their breakup. "Then why did you break up with me?" Her vision blurred with tears as she waited for an answer that didn’t come.

The silence returned once more, broken only by Ethan’s ragged breathing on the other end of the line. If he missed her so much then why did they break up? Why did he say those hurtful things? Why did he try to erase her from his life?

Ethan broke the silence again with a fervor that took Lily by surprise. "Lily," he said, his voice taut with desperation. "I want to hold you." He sounded like a man drowning, reaching out for something - someone - to save him from being swept away by his own emotions.

Lily clutched at the phone tightly, fear and hope warring within her. "You said you’d marry me... Ethan, you promised me..." Her voice trailed off into an accusing whisper that hung heavy between them.

"I’ll marry you!" Ethan agreed without hesitation.

Lily was taken aback by his sudden agreement and couldn’t help but question everything that had happened before: their breakup, their son... Was it all just a sick joke?

"Where are you?" Ethan’s voice was filled with urgency, a hint of panic creeping into his tone.

"The 30-Day Memory Hotel in the city center," Lily replied honestly, her heart pounding in her chest. "Will you... really come?"

Ethan’s sudden change in demeanor left her reeling. Why would he want to marry her now after everything that had happened? "Wait for me!" Ethan said before hanging up, leaving Lily alone once more with only his words and the echo of their shared longing to keep her company.

"Ethan..." Lily called out, stopping him.

"Mm?"

"Will you really come?" she asked again, her voice trembling with doubt, afraid it was all just her imagination.

Why had he changed so suddenly? What was he thinking?

"Are you coming with me or not? You weren’t even afraid to die!" Ethan shot back, his tone forceful. Each word struck like a hammer in her ear.

"I have nothing to fear..."

Because without Ethan Blackwood, she had nothing left...

Without hesitation, Lily answered over the phone. As long as he still wanted her, as long as he still loved her... she feared nothing.

"Mm." Ethan’s voice was magnetic, vibrating with intensity.

Lily cried silently, tears streaming down her face. "Ethan, do you love me?"

There was a long pause, so long that Lily thought he wouldn’t answer. But then she heard him say, "Lily Anderson, I, Ethan Blackwood, will only ever love one woman in my life—and that’s you." 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Lily nearly burst into sobs, hastily covering the phone to stifle her cry.

This infuriating man—did he have to toy with her emotions like this? Did he find satisfaction in making her heart race and plummet?

"I’ll wait for you, Ethan. I’m in Room 303," Lily said, fighting back the urge to cry.

Ethan immediately hung up.

Lily lay on the bed, still clutching the phone. Her heart felt at ease for the first time in a long while.

She would wait for him...

No matter how long it took, she would wait.

Ethan put away his phone and opened the door, only to be met with a fist flying toward him. His reflexes were sharp, and he quickly blocked Tommy’s punch.

What was this?!

Ethan glared at him, shaking his aching head.

In the next moment, several large foreign bodyguards rushed in, pinning Ethan to the ground and restraining him.

"Tommy, are you looking to die?!" Ethan growled, his voice icy. He struggled against the men holding him down, trying to knock them off, but he was completely immobilized.

"You’ve already made the right decision, Ethan. Don’t go back on it now!" Tommy shouted, flexing his arm before signaling to the doctor. "Inject the sedative!"

"Tommy, you dare?!" Ethan roared.

This was his house! How dare they inject him with a sedative here?!

Ethan’s dark eyes flared with fury, his gaze wild and violent. He flung off one of the bodyguards, pinning him down, but Tommy waved his hand, and three more bodyguards piled on top of him.

"I’m your brother! Of course, I dare!" Tommy retorted, glaring back at him before pulling the doctor closer.

The doctor opened his medical case, preparing the injection.

"If you so much as touch me, I’ll kill you!" Ethan snarled, his voice filled with murderous intent as he glared at the doctor angrily.

The doctor trembled, nearly dropping the syringe in fear.

"Hurry up and do it! I guarantee you won’t die!" Tommy barked, dragging the doctor forward. "Inject him already!"

"You dare!" Ethan’s roar was hoarse, and his struggles intensified. He twisted one of the bodyguards’ arms, eliciting a scream as the man fell to the side, writhing in pain.

This was Ethan Blackwood—the untamed force of nature.

Tommy leaned down, personally pinning Ethan’s arm to the ground. "Do it now!" he ordered the doctor.

The doctor, trembling, crouched down and injected the sedative into Ethan.

Ethan glared at Tommy with unrelenting hatred, his voice booming, "Tommy, I’ll kill you!"

He had to see Lily... no one could stop him!

"It’s for your own good," Tommy muttered, frowning as he instructed the bodyguards to take him to his bed.

"Yes, sir."

As soon as the sedative began to take effect, Ethan’s resistance waned, but even in his dazed state, his lips moved, and he repeated two words: "Lily Anderson..."

Lily sat by the hotel window, listening to the rain. She waited quietly... waiting for Ethan to come and take her away.

She was selfish. She couldn’t let go of this relationship. As long as she could be with him, nothing else mattered.
