Chapter 141: In Perfect Harmony

When they dealt with those mushrooms at the state-run restaurant and looked at the money made from selling the chicken mushrooms, Xu Minghui felt a surge of impulsiveness, wanting to quit his job and come back to pick mushrooms.

They were making several dollars every day; in just a few days, it could match his monthly salary.

"Sis, honestly, tell me, how much have you saved?" Xu Minghui was extremely envious.

"Not much, why?" Xu Mumu raised her eyebrows slightly.

"I want to go pick these chicken mushrooms and sell them too." Xu Minghui joked; he cherished his current job.

"You’re dreaming." Xu Mumu looked at Xu Minghui coolly, she felt her brother was being a bit cheeky, wanting her to put him in his place.

"Oh, I’m just saying it randomly." Xu Minghui said with a smile.

"Let’s go to Du Yu’s house. His dad worked quite hard to get you that job, bring these over to them." Xu Mumu didn’t sell all the chicken mushrooms she picked this time; she saved some.

"Alright, let’s go." Xu Minghui nodded, he was indeed grateful to Du Yu’s dad.

However, when the two went to the shoe factory, their luck wasn’t great, and they ran into their third aunt Lin Juan, who was just returning with Xu Dongbao.

When Lin Juan saw Xu Mumu and her brother, her face immediately turned sour. Even though they hadn’t returned, they knew about Xu Minghui’s job.

Xu He had envied Xu Minghui’s job for a long time; even though they were both temporary workers, Xu Minghui’s was much better than his at the shoe factory.

Xu Dongbao naturally recognized his cousins, but unfortunately, this kid had long been spoiled by Lin Juan, he looked down on his rural brother and sister.

"Stop right there, I’m your third aunt. Seeing your elders, you don’t even greet us. What terrible manners." Seeing the siblings directly ignoring her and preparing to leave, Lin Juan was quite furious.

Even when angered, Lin Juan didn’t dare go too far; seeing the basket on Xu Minghui’s back, there were surely good things inside, she could already smell the sweetness—there must be good stuff.

The candy at home was running low, this was specifically bought by Xu Mumu, those candies were rewards for a few little ones who were learning well, and they were more interested in studying. For those who did well in school, Xu Mumu never skimped on rewards.

Looking at Xu Minghui’s basket, Lin Juan was extremely envious; the Xu Family over there really had it good.

"Oh, it’s third aunt, sorry, my eyesight isn’t too good lately, oh, it’s all because I’m too tired from work." Xu Minghui said with a smile.

"Third aunt." Xu Mumu greeted plainly.

"Third aunt, you’re still eating cabbage? Oh, my home eats so much meat we’re getting tired of it. Didn’t expect third aunt’s family in the city all can’t afford meat, huh? Sis, let’s buy some cabbage to eat later, break the monotony." Xu Minghui said brightly.

"Yeah, listen to brother, after all, his salary’s high, we can eat whatever." Xu Mumu cooperatively said, looking at Lin Juan’s face filled with jealousy, Xu Mumu felt extremely satisfied.

Memory served, every time this third aunt came back, she’d brag about city life.

"That’s right, wow, isn’t this Dongbao? How did he become so thin? Third aunt can’t neglect the Xu Family’s grandson." Xu Minghui’s gaze fell on Xu Dongbao; this little guy used to be chubby, now he’s much slimmer, but still healthier than average kids.

"Mom, I also want to eat meat, go buy some." Hearing that big brother’s family eats meat every day, Xu Dongbao was tempted, his family hadn’t eaten meat for ages, anything else was counted, stark contrast to before.

"Eat what meat, there’s food at home." Seeing her son making a fuss, Lin Juan was quite troubled, carefully coaxing him; she had only this precious son, almost all the good stuff at home went into his mouth.

They’d just paid off debts recently; now only her father’s and Xu He’s salaries were left, salaries halved, so life was only normal.

Moreover, they’d fallen out with the old home, even wanting to go back to ask the two old folks for some grains was impossible; who could blame them for moving in with the Xu Family there? The couple surely wouldn’t give them grains.

Seeing Xu Dongbao continuously crying for meat, Lin Juan’s face grew darker.

"Third aunt, we have business, we’re leaving." Xu Minghui curled his lips, a scornful look flickering in his eyes.

Xu Mumu looked at Xu Dongbao’s antics and smiled faintly, Xu Dongbao and Xu Minglei were born the same year, ten now, still like this, third aunt sure could teach kids.

Alright, though my mom wasn’t a great teacher either, thankfully I was there; my little brother’s attitude had slowly turned around, not as aggressive as before. Now when Xu Minglei goes out, everyone calls him sensible.

Arriving at Du Yu’s house, Du Yu was pleasantly surprised to see Xu Mumu back.

"Mumu, why are you here? I was thinking of visiting you in a few days." Du Yu said joyfully, he did well in exams this term, so his parents were more generous with pocket money, he’d been having a blast.

"Aren’t your parents home?" Du Yu’s house was empty, with only Du Yu inside.

"Yeah, dad’s at work, mom’s gone to the countryside for some stuff, come in quickly." Du Yu said excitedly.

"No need, these are for your family, cook them directly or make an egg soup, they taste quite nice." Xu Mumu took a few larger chicken mushrooms from Xu Minghui’s basket and handed them to Du Yu.

"What kind of mushroom is this?" Du Yu asked curiously.

"It’s called chicken mushroom, keep it stored we’ve got business, won’t stay for a sit-down we’re heading back." Xu Mumu patted Du Yu’s shoulder.

"Wait a second, this is honey my grandpa brought us, take it back to eat." Du Yu quickly ran to put stuff down and came back with a small jar.

"Honey, keep it for yourselves." The jar didn’t have much honey, but it smelled nice.

"Oh, I was going to drop it off in a few days, my mom knows anyway, dad’s blood sugar was high recently, all the sweet stuff’s been stored up by mom; not like I care for sweet stuff, fits just to give to you." Du Yu said with a grin.

"Okay, next time I get good stuff I’ll drop it by too." Xu Mumu nodded with a smile, deciding when next visiting the mountains to hunt down some wild chickens or rabbits if caught, give one to Du Yu’s family.

Leaving the shoe factory, Xu Minghui mused: "This kid’s really generous, last time I went out to other provinces, saw honey in co-op stores, even small jars like these cost several dollars."

"His family’s truly generous." Xu Mumu agreed, befriending Du Yu seemed a real wise choice then.
