70s Delicate Girl: A Guide to Being a Rich Woman-Chapter 218: Grilled Fish
This guy really has the potential to cause trouble; his face is truly one that never gets tiresome to look at.
"Mumu, I heard my mom calling me, so I’ll head back first." Zhao Qian glanced at the two of them, then heard her mother calling her to come home.
"Go ahead." Xu Mumu nodded with a smile.
After Zhao Qian left, Xu Mumu held her little brother by the riverside and watched.
"Why are you always over here catching fish?" Xu Mumu squatted down and placed her little brother’s foot on a clean stone.
"There was a Crucian carp that swam over here and then disappeared into the grass." Yin Yang scratched his head a bit awkwardly, hoping to leave a good impression on Xu Mumu. He wanted to catch that fish.
"If you can’t find it, let it go. It probably swam away." Xu Mumu said calmly, holding the little one tightly. The little one saw the water and still wanted to stretch his foot into it.
"That fish was the biggest I’ve seen today." Giving up was a bit hard, even though the fish wasn’t particularly big, only about the width of three fingers.
"Don’t worry, maybe you’ll find a bigger fish later." Xu Mumu comforted Yin Yang.
"Okay, I’ll listen to you." Yin Yang gave up as he’d already searched the area three times without finding the fish.
Being so close to Xu Mumu, he noticed her face was fair and tender. In the sunlight, you could even see the tiny fine hairs. Yin Yang’s gaze fell on Xu Mumu’s lips, which were a gentle pink color. They had a beautiful shape, like jelly, making him wonder if they tasted as good as jelly.
His mind was filled with this single thought, and when he snapped out of it, Yin Yang’s ears turned red.
Xu Mumu didn’t notice at all; she was trying to keep the little brother close, so he wouldn’t really stretch his toes into the water. They were standing at a spot close to the water, and the water level was high. If Xu Mumu moved forward even a little, the little one could stand in the water.
Seeing Xu Mumu not paying attention to him, Yin Yang felt a moment of disappointment.
But he quickly adjusted his mood; he definitely wanted to catch a big fish to grill for Xu Mumu to eat.
An exclamation of surprise came, drawing Xu Mumu’s gaze. It was Tiedan who had caught a medium-sized grass carp with a fish net.
Xu Mumu was a bit surprised too; luck was pretty good.
The fish was placed in a wooden bucket, and besides the grass carp, there were a few other fish, including Crucian carps and two small yellow mullets.
Even though there weren’t many fish, the children’s enthusiasm was very high.
Playing by the river for half a day, the harvest was quite abundant.
Yin Yang also had good luck and caught a large White Carp.
"We’re going to grill fish outside, do you want to eat?" Xu Mumu picked out the White Carp and two small yellow mullets, asking the children.
"Yes, yes, big sis, I want to eat grilled fish."
Without needing Xu Mumu to say more, the children were excited.
"Minglei, hold the little brother; I’ll handle these fish. You guys go gather some firewood." Xu Mumu directly instructed.
"Mumu, what do I do? You haven’t assigned me anything." Yin Yang looked at Xu Mumu.
"Then you scrape the scales off the White Carp." Xu Mumu gave the White Carp to Yin Yang; she didn’t like scraping fish scales.
"Alright." Yin Yang nodded contentedly, and rolled up his sleeves to start scraping.
"I thought you wouldn’t know how to do these things." Watching Yin Yang skillfully handle it, Xu Mumu laughed and teased.
"I didn’t before, but I learned after coming here." Yin Yang chuckled. After coming here, he really learned a lot, at least not as lost as when he just arrived. He no longer needed to ask others for help; he could do everything himself.
"That’s great." Xu Mumu said with a smile; learning more is never wrong, and you don’t have to rely on others for everything.
The fish scales were quickly scraped clean by Yin Yang, and Xu Mumu applied seasoning and let it marinate for a while. Xu Jiaojiao and the others gathered some firewood, and a few of them were by the river, cleaning a few small fish thoroughly.
"Big sis, I want to grill a small one." Xu Jiaojiao looked at Xu Mumu expectantly.
Xu Mumu skewer a small yellow mullet with a stick, then handed it to Xu Jiaojiao.
"Thanks, big sis." Xu Jiaojiao was extremely happy, and the fire was already lit by Xu Tao and Tiedan. Xu Mumu handed the other small yellow mullet to Xu Minglei, letting him grill it.
Xu Mumu took the little brother in her arms; as for the White Carp, it was handed to Yin Yang to grill.
Xu Mumu held the little brother close; he was getting more and more lively, and even wanted to stretch his chubby hand to grab at the fire. Luckily, Xu Mumu held him away from the fire to avoid getting burned.
The aroma of grilled fish gradually spread out, making the little one more restless, wanting to grab the fish to eat.
Unfortunately, the little brother was still nursing and couldn’t eat.
"Sis, when will it be ready? Smelling it makes me hungry." Xu Minglei touched his belly, then looked eagerly at the little fish. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"Wait a few more minutes, turn it over several times while grilling to make it evenly cooked." Xu Mumu instructed her brother on how to grill fish.
Xu Jiaojiao listened attentively, her hand spinning the skewer with the fish continuously, making the fish a beautiful golden brown, looking delicious.
"Sis, eat some grass roots." Tiedan washed the grass roots in the river, offering one to Xu Mumu.
Tiedan had a few more reed roots in his hand, which they all shared. Yin Yang held the reed root in his hand, a bit unsure, as he hadn’t eaten this before.
"Mumu, how do you eat it?" Yin Yang was a bit confused, looking at Xu Mumu.
"Chew it like sugarcane, chew a few times then spit it out, just for the sweet taste." Xu Mumu said with a smile, then put the reed root in her mouth.
Seeing his sister eating, the little one wanted to grab some himself, but unfortunately, his sister didn’t leave him any.
The little one didn’t care what his sister was eating; his eyes continued to stare at the grilling fish.
Xu Mumu felt her little brother was particularly easy to take care of; this whole half-day, he hadn’t cried.
The little brother was full of energy, and when they went back, after a bit of formula milk, he would probably sleep.
Yin Yang also put the reed root in his mouth, chewed a few times, finding it somewhat sweet. It wasn’t overly sweet; was this the kind of thing the village kids ate? How pitiful.
"How is it? The taste is not bad, right?" Xu Mumu said with a smile.
"It’s okay." Yin Yang smiled lightly and nodded.
Dazzled by Yin Yang’s smile, Xu Mumu silently moved her gaze away from his face.
"Jiaojiao, your fish is ready; you can eat it now." Xu Mumu’s gaze fell on the fish Xu Jiaojiao was grilling.
"Really?" Xu Jiaojiao’s eyes lit up; she grilled it a bit more before taking the fish off and placing it on taro leaves.
"Wow, it’s delicious; next time we should come grill fish again." Tiedan said excitedly after putting a small piece in his mouth.
"The taste is not bad, do you want to try some?" Xu Mumu ate a piece, then prepared a small piece and offered it to Yin Yang.
