Chapter 274: Striking Up a Conversation

The two of them arrived at Professor Song’s residence. Professor Song didn’t have many belongings, which were already packed.

"Grandpa, you only have such little stuff?" Yin Yang said helplessly. With so little, he could have made a single trip and carried it all himself.

"This is all I need." Professor Song said calmly. After years of hardship, he wasn’t used to owning expensive things. All his belongings were practical.

Besides, he lived alone recently, so there wasn’t a need for anything else.

Xu Mumu and Yin Yang then went to Professor Jian’s, who also didn’t have many belongings. The two elderly gentlemen mainly just had lots of books.

They made just one trip and brought the two elderly gentlemen back to the courtyard.

The courtyard became lively with the addition of two more people, which pleased Xu Mumu greatly.

"Should we hire an auntie to cook for us so you’re not doing it every day?" Yin Yang asked Xu Mumu, not wanting her to cook daily.

"Sure, go ahead and find one who cooks well." Xu Mumu nodded, having no interest in cooking but she loved to eat.

"I’ll ask Zhou Yunhong to help; he’s more familiar with the Imperial City." Yin Yang said with a smile.

Once the two elderly gentlemen moved in, they began to supervise Xu Mumu’s studies, especially Professor Song. Xu Mumu chose a major in physics, a field Professor Song spent most of his life researching, so he couldn’t help but teach Xu Mumu more.

Even before the term started, Xu Mumu was learning a lot under the special tutelage and had a tightly packed schedule every day.

Though Professors Shen and An didn’t move in, they frequently visited to assign study tasks to Xu Mumu whenever they were free.

Zhou Yunhong proved to be very reliable and in just a couple of days, he introduced a fifty-something-year-old auntie to Xu Mumu and the others. The auntie was a widow whose son was already in college, and she was an excellent cook.

Mrs. Liu seemed very honest, cooking all meals and meticulously cleaning the courtyard daily.

"Mrs. Liu’s braised pig’s feet are simply divine; they taste amazing." Xu Mumu licked her lips, her stomach full. Zhou Yunhong had really found someone amazing. Being nurtured like this, she was sure to gain weight, a blissful dilemma indeed.

"If you like it, we can have it again tomorrow." Yin Yang said with a smile.

"I’d like to have braised chicken tomorrow." Xu Mumu rolled her eyes. This auntie cooked so many different dishes, and Xu Mumu wanted to try them all.

"Go for a walk to digest the food." Professor Song told them, practically shooing them out to stroll and digest.

The start of the school year came quickly. Xu Mumu and Yin Yang prepared and headed to school early.

After parting ways with Yin Yang, Xu Mumu entered the classroom, where quite a few people were already present. Her arrival caused a two-second hush across the room.

Xu Mumu appeared petite and was younger; amongst the crowd, she was the youngest, and being pretty made her even more attention-grabbing.

She found an empty spot and sat down. Having studied much with the professors recently, the university courses didn’t pose much difficulty.

"Classmate, what’s your name? I’m Lin Hao." A tall, broad-shouldered boy sat next to Xu Mumu.

"Xu Mumu, do you need something?" Xu Mumu asked calmly, pulling out her books. It was the first day, so nothing substantial would be covered.

"Just wanted to be friends." Lin Hao looked at Xu Mumu, astonished by her appearance which was the best in the class. Among the materials physics group of forty-two, there were only eight girls.

She looked at him calmly, "I have to study."

The boy wasn’t particularly handsome. Looking at Yin Yang and Huo Qingze often enough, this boy seemed just average, even less appealing than her brother, so he didn’t interest Xu Mumu. With time spent looking at him, she might as well study.

"What are you reading? I’m unsure what to read. Can you recommend me some?" Lin Hao tried hard to get Xu Mumu’s attention.

"What I’m reading isn’t necessary for you." Xu Mumu said indifferently. This person was so annoying with so much talking, interrupting her reading. Her readings were the private collections of Professor Song and others, not taught in college.

"Let me have a look." Lin Hao’s face turned stiff. Why didn’t this girl follow the script at all? 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

He thought he looked alright. Usually, when chatting with girls, they quite liked him.

"Here, have a look, but remember to return them without damage." Xu Mumu said plainly, giving the unread ones to Lin Hao so he wouldn’t keep bothering her.

After receiving the books, Lin Hao flipped through them, confused. Were they from different high schools? Were these really college-level physics? What kind of formula was this? So long, and what did these parameters mean?

"I, I’ll return these to you." Lin Hao was stunned. Seeing how seriously Xu Mumu read, it was best not to disturb her.

Coming to Huaxia University, didn’t everyone have a bit of pride? Xu Mumu had intensely slapped Lin Hao’s pride.

Mumu nodded, then put away her books and resumed reading.

Before long, the mentor arrived, with a few boys helping distribute textbooks.

After receiving her textbook, Xu Mumu skimmed through; the freshman foundational courses were similar to those from her past life, not difficult. This reassured her since she already knew this material. She decided to complete the tasks set by the professors first.

The mentor lectured extensively about university matters, various things to be mindful of, and class officer elections.

Xu Mumu showed no interest in the class officer position. Her aspirations didn’t lie there, nor did she have experience.

While she showed disinterest, others were very interested. Many vied for the roles, and it took two lessons to fill them.

In the afternoon, there was an opening ceremony where the principal was going to speak.

At noon, planning to find Yin Yang to go home for lunch, Xu Mumu was stopped by several girls in the class.

"Classmate, why didn’t you stay on campus?" A girl with two braids asked, with seven out of eight girls in the same dorm, while another was from a different department. They initially thought there were just seven girls in the class.

"I live off-campus; I’m not used to dorms." Xu Mumu replied warmly. These girls showed no hostility, probably being women in science, unlike those in later generations.

"I see, we are going to the cafeteria, would you like to join us?" Su Yue’e asked with a smile.

"No need, my partner’s here to pick me up." Xu Mumu shook her head; Yin Yang had already arrived outside the classroom.
