A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods-Chapter 456: The Surge of Women Who Can’t Conceive

The successful escape of the four allowed them to sigh in relief after escaping the Golem area. Still, they still didn’t expect to came out unscathe. Although they have minor scratches here and there especially Arthur and Raye who made ruckus for the golems to disregard the golem they needed to mine, there are no major injuries to speak of.

With the ore in hand, the group returned to the village and let the Village Chief do the rest.

"You didn’t tell us that the one we will be mining these ores are located on golems! It would be a major disaster if we have no idea how to deal with those rocks!" Elaina scolded the Village Chief.

"Haha, sorry about that. But considering that I already have my two finest works being wielded and a fine sword from an unknown blacksmith come together, it wouldn’t be too hard to deal with a few golems yourselves. And besides, I wouldn’t be sending you lot over that damnable place if I don’t believe in your skills."

Elaina sighed. "Fine. I will accept that little reasoning of yours but next time, tell us what to expect there instead of leaving us blind."

The elder chuckled hearing this before checking the Orichalcum on his hands.

"The chunk you gave me is quite big. Even if I make a sword including the hilt made from it, I will still have lots of leftovers afterwards. Therefore, instead of one, I will make a twin sword on this. Is that fine for our young lady who will be wielding this?"

"Sure. But don’t make the blades of these two swords the same length with each other. Please make the other one a short sword variant and the other a sword that is longer than the other one but can still be wielded in one hand."

"An irregular sword length eh? Do you have a reason for this style?" the blacksmith’s eyebrows rises.

"A kind of tactic. I use the longer blade for offensive while the shorter for defensive and fast movements. Imagine a wielder of sword and dagger you know?"

Elaina guess that perhaps, the past Adelaide uses the same fighting style, a dagger and sword combo. Since it was her battle style, Elaina has no say to it. After all, each person fights uniquely depending on their physique and their way of fighting.

"Alright, young lady. As long as both swords can be used for magic casting, yes? Then come back here in at least a month in the surface. With how this is different from regular swords, I will have to make various adjustments on this sword. Until then, you will have to wait."

And so, the swords are now under production and they only needed to wait. Returning to the surface, the fatigue finally sets in for everyone and they returned home with everyone pretty much down and are not motivated to do anything and just wanted to sleep. Even Elaina felt she wanted to have some rest as well and due to that, she skipped a single day of farm work. Of course, the next day though, Elaina worked back on the farm.

A few days after the Orichalcum hunt, Elaina head to Yona’s house. She was currently assigned to help with the Laporal, the new fruit that Elaina is cultivating. Since Elaina has planted that plant before Julia arrived, Elaina entrusted the study of the plant to Yona and how to create a way to make medicine or potion using the Laporal and make a profit of it.

Elaina thought that the Laporal could be consumed like a normal fruit before she planted it, but when it grew and bore fruit, the fruit turned out to be inedible due to how sour and disgusting it was to eat. The information about it was close to being false but considering that it was indeed plump and juicy, it does look tasty even though reality is so far from the imagination. And not only that, but forcing yourself to eat it will only induce puking, making it a bad fruit for regular intake. Making juice isn’t even possible unless one pour in lots and lots of sweeteners like sugar and honey.

But since Elaina wanted to take advantage of its effect, Elaina had to ask Yona who knows how to make various medicine out of herbs before to try and see if she can develop something from it.

Nowadays, the project is being helped by Julia as this matter is something that she greatly interest in. If two heads think together, then perhaps the project produce something useful.

When Elaina entered Yona’s house, the old smell of medicine from the cauldron still wafts all around the place. Just like when she entered there for the first time, the smell is quite strong for her nose. Thankfully, Elaina has gotten used to it. She can tolerate the smell now.

"Ah, Miss Elaina, are you here to check on the Laporal?" Yona asked.

"Sis, looks like we got a chance after all with this Laporal to be turned into a medicine we can use!" Julia said, excited on the outcome of the fruit’s studies.

"That’s great to hear! Are we going to see the product soon?" Elaina asked.

"Maybe later this few days. We are actually rushing on making this medicine due to some talks around the town about some surges of problems that comes from recent married women."

"Eh? What happened?" Elaina asked, frowning on the new development happening in the background.

"Apparently, there was a surge of women who are having fertility issues. Dr. Frey thought it was just a normal thing but soon enough, the women who reported to be going to be pregnant before ended up losing what their chances for pregnancy as their fertility rates have dropped down mysteriously."

"Fertility dropping? Are these people very old?" Elaina asked.

"Nope. Some are even younger than you, Miss Elaina. Some have recently gotten married and was hoping to conceive a baby only to find out their fertility has dropped to the point that conceiving a baby will be close to impossible. It would have been fine if this case is only happening to one person, and perhaps a coincidence if there are at least two or three of the same problem. But that wasn’t the case," Yona shook her head.

"Which is why, we are trying to use this chance to prove the effectiveness of our medicine. There must be a reason this fruit came to us, Sis. Perhaps this new problem related to the fertility is a god’s intervention to help the women in need," Julia said, optimistic on their project.

Elaina on the other hand can only smily wryly as she can’t even reveal that a god was indeed the one who distributed the seed.

"Are we sure it can help with the fertility problem?" Elaina asked.

Julia and Yona nodded in agreement. "We might not change the world drastically with this one but that doesn’t mean we can’t help it."

"Which is why we will have you inspect the medicine. Please supervise the Laporal preparation soon."
