Chapter 409: 409 Quirky

[Donald’s Perspective]

"Charlie, you bring the heavy machinery troops along, I’m going down that passage to snatch Margaret back! Benjamin, you’ll follow my lead as well."

As I spoke, I turned and walked out of the ward, with Charlie and Benjamin respectfully answering "Yes" behind me before hastily catching up.

As I stepped out of the hospital door, I took the communicator handed over by my trusted aide, Lycan.

"Captain Christian has sent back a message; they’ve been tracking the enemy and discovered that they are retreating towards the northern area of Poison Snake Island!" Lycan reported succinctly.

Upon hearing this, I nodded, clutched the communicator silently for a moment, then from the corner of my eye, saw Elliot with the assault team emerging from the hospital and I ordered in a deep voice, "The entire army, assemble and depart for the submarine passage on the north side of the island."

After giving the order, I boarded the helicopter, with Benjamin, Charlie, and the last to arrive, Elliot, sitting behind me.

There were a total of 12 helicopters for the heavy machinery troops; aside from the one carrying Charlie, the rest had been circling above the hospital. Once they saw the commander’s helicopter take off, they, along with the Lycans and warriors on the ground, quickly followed suit.

I had not overlooked contacting Anthony directly, but he is an extremely cautious and meticulous warrior. If he hadn’t volunteered any updates on the submarine passage mission to me, it meant the time wasn’t ripe, or perhaps he was too busy to report to me at the moment!

Considering the latter possibility, my nerves tensed slightly as my gaze out the window grew dark and profound. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

After today’s warfare, Poison Snake Island wasn’t some enigmatic realm to me anymore; it was just a broken isle about to be completely conquered by my forces!

Perhaps the atmosphere in the cabin was too severe and silent, for Charlie couldn’t help but speak out loud, "Your Majesty, if I may say so, I find today’s entire operational process rather peculiar."

I certainly heard Charlie’s words and turned my head with a serene expression, gesturing for him to continue.

Swallowing hard, he spoke in a grave tone, "General Lucas hasn’t fought against the Werewolf army modified by Henry before, so he doesn’t quite understand what it’s all about, but I noticed that the ones we encountered today weren’t as strong as before! If the strength of the monsters transformed by Henry were classified on a scale of ten, those we met before were at level eight or even nine, but the strongest ones we encountered today were only around level six!"

"I’m unsure if there may be other reasons, but the battle for Poison Snake Island is a matter of life and death, and it’s also his and Martha’s last combat choke point. Isn’t it too abnormal for him to ’wrap up’ like this? To be honest, Your Majesty, I joined the battle today prepared to sacrifice the entire mechanical battalion if necessary to take down Poison Snake Island, but I didn’t expect it to be so..."

Charlie paused, searching for the right words, then took a deep breath and continued looking at me, "I don’t know if it’s appropriate to say this, but I feel that our operation this time went a bit too smoothly, almost like child’s play!"

I patiently listened to Charlie give his extended remarks.

As he finished his last few sentences, he carefully observed my expression to see if I became angry or had any other reaction; seeing none, he quietly heaved a sigh of relief.

I leaned back in my chair, took a deep breath, and responded gravely, "Your feelings are justified. Although we seem to have emerged victorious on the surface, Henry managed to escape during the battle, and Martha didn’t show her face from beginning to end. I went to great lengths to organize the raid on the hospital, only to be thoroughly mocked by them in the end!"

"They abandoned an ally who had lost his usefulness but preserved most of their own strength. How is that not another kind of victory?"

As I spoke, a mocking smile curled at the corners of my mouth, and I opened my eyes to look at him and Elliot beside him, "Get ready, the real battle is coming next. They must want to use the submarine passage to safely evacuate from Poison Snake Island, but with so many troops and monsters that don’t completely obey commands, it won’t be an easy task for them to execute a rapid retreat."

Since boarding the helicopter, Elliot’s mood had been down, as if he was quite dissatisfied with his performance in the recent rescue mission. He, like me, detested being toyed with by others and felt a mix of anger and self-reproach, wondering why he hadn’t detected the enemy’s plot sooner.

Having listened to my analysis of the current situation, he turned his body to face me, his eyes blazing with a battle-ready spirit, and boldly said, "What do we need to do next? Just give your orders, Your Majesty! That despicable villain Henry dares to toy with us like this, I must kill him!"

At his words, I raised an eyebrow and curled my mouth slightly, calmly replying, "What’s the rush now? Just follow my command later."
