Abandoned Woman Busy Farming-Chapter 2408 - 2409: Casting a Wide Net
"Boss, their array master must be on the boat, the others are nothing to worry about. Once we ambush those Western fellows, we’re sure to make them die on the island." A pirate tried to curry favor, moved over and spoke flatteringly.
Boss’s eyes suddenly narrowed, "Don’t think the others are easy to deal with. Don’t forget that woman uses poison."
The pirate licked his lips and smiled, "Don’t we have some antidotes? As long as we can kill her, we can also remove a big threat."
Boss sneered, "Makes sense, I heard she has a maid who is very weak. Bai Ruozhu cares a lot about those around her. You go ahead and capture that girl in the purple skirt."
"Boss knows best!" The pirates exclaimed.
These pirates didn’t speak much; each carried a sword and had an air of menace. Whenever they spoke, it seemed like they were up to no good.
Soon, the boat got closer to the island. The pirate ship anchored, and small boats were lowered. Groups of pirates boarded the small boats with supplies.
"Make sure your gear is secured properly and doesn’t get wet." Boss said.
He picked up a monocle telescope and looked into the distance, sure enough, spotting Bai Ruozhu and her crew organizing people to go into the sea, but realizing it was too late, they scrambled to shore and fled towards the island.
Boss squinted, "They will probably have the sailors hide first, then send the skilled martial artists to deal with us. When you set up the sword array later, concentrate and don’t let them take advantage."
"Yes, Boss." The group of pirates responded.
Quickly, they reached the shore, cautiously moving forward.
They were worried Bai Ruozhu might lead a surprise attack, so they moved slowly. Yet after a long time, they hadn’t encountered a single soul.
"Boss, why aren’t they coming out, are they just creating an illusion?" someone asked.
Boss couldn’t be sure either, after a moment’s thought, he said, "Keep searching, don’t spread out."
Just then, a noise echoed. Someone had inadvertently kicked a small stone.
"Who goes there!" The pirate shouted. Several quickly rushed over, seeing a scholar leap out and sprint away.
"Just a Champion from their boat, a scholar, how powerful could he be? Send a few to chase him!" Boss ordered.
A squad immediately headed the direction Tang Feng ran.
Boss and his crew continued moving forward, not believing Tang Feng was the only one hiding nearby.
As they pursued, suddenly someone ambushed them. Boss squinted, recognizing one was a guard, and the other was Bai Ruozhu’s maid.
Yizi set up a minor array, offering some defense. A pirate wanted to pull out a gun, but Boss signaled him to stop.
He intended to save those Western guns for surprises, it would be wasteful to use them on a minor ambush now.
Jianqi injured two, then retreated, pulling Yizi along as he ran, "Have madam escape quickly, I’ll cover."
Boss charged forward, "No one will escape today!"
Jianqi and Yizi ran quick, evidently familiar with the terrain. Boss and his men gave chase, oblivious to missing a number of their own.
Eventually, they lost track of where Jianqi and Yizi hid. Boss then realized the numbers were off.
Meanwhile, the team pursuing Tang Feng hadn’t returned. He quickly blew the whistle to summon his horsemen, but after a long wait, nobody came.
"Damn it, when did they ambush us?" Boss cursed profanely out of frustration.
"Boss, something’s wrong. Even if they ambushed our people, they couldn’t have done it silently without us sensing at least some traces." A pirate remarked.
Boss calmed slightly, contemplating the situation, he agreed something was amiss. He gestured, "Let’s head back, don’t split up."
Regrettably, returning to the coastline required traversing the island. As they walked, more vanished silently.
Such incidents easily spark fear, especially as strange cries echoed from above, light and shadow formed a ghostly face, mouth agape to devour.
"A ghost!" someone screamed, fleeing towards the shore, the ranks fell into chaos quickly. Boss yelled, chasing them.
Not far, Bai Ruozhu gave Qiu Zhi an approving glance. This young Daoist wasn’t great at much, but his ghostly illusions were top tier.
Qiu Zhi had already discerned Bai Ruozhu’s intentions. Deep down he felt bitter, once a disciple of the Mount Longhu master, now elbow deep in tricks. If not for that accident, he’d likely be the next master. If his teacher found out, he’d likely break his legs.
Sobbing inwardly, he cursed the Master-servant Contract he bound himself with. He couldn’t defy her.
The most tragic part — signing it was his own impulsive decision.
Before long, Boss’s crew dwindled, as Bai Ruozhu mulled the strange terrain, so many wandering inside, yet no congestion?
There seemed to be no limits, its exact size unknown even to her.
Seeing few enemies left, Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun attacked directly, killing several pirates, leaving only Boss and his four close allies.
"You can’t escape." Bai Ruozhu smirked at Boss, "I’m curious who gave you this boat. With your skills you certainly couldn’t craft this."
She couldn’t believe it was Boss’s dad, otherwise, as lazy as Boss was, he’d at least grasp some skills, right?
Boss glared furiously at Bai Ruozhu, "You underestimate people."
"What skills make me overestimate? In our many clashes, your ship was the only advantage. What else can you boast?" Bai Ruozhu taunted.
This provoked Boss completely, he suddenly raised a black gun at Bai Ruozhu.
"Die!"
With a loud bang, Bai Ruozhu was shot and fell. The surprise caught even Jiang Yichun off guard, his heart raced as he dashed to Bai Ruozhu, "Ruozhu, are you okay?"
Bai Ruozhu coughed weakly, "I’m okay."
A fleeting white shadow dashed, Xiaomao bit Boss, he yelled in pain, the Western gun slipping from his grasp.
The other pirates fired too, but everyone was now careful, two guards were hit yet avoided serious harm.
Soon, four pirates were dead. Boss resisted while retreating, poisoned by Xiaomao, his movements slowed, almost skewered by a sword — his figure vanished on the spot!
