Abyssal Sovereign: The Demon's Dominion-Chapter 285 - 284: Secrets of existence
In the dark layers of space…
Two beings radiating equally chaotic auras stood opposite each other.
Unlike the emptiness of the Fourth Layer, the Fifth Layer of Space held life—if it could even be called that.
All around Void and the Death Angel, countless red eyes blinked in the void, silently watching.
The creatures behind those eyes were called Phantoms — half-real, half-essence beings.
Physical attacks could not harm them. Only laws and powers beyond could touch their existence.
Beyond these strange beings drifted countless fragments of broken worlds — debris resembling floating islands.
Each fragment was a remnant of a powerful world destroyed in the wars.
Every piece carried echoes of its fallen civilization, floating through the Fifth Layer for thousands… sometimes millions of years.
Memories and timelines, shattered and bleeding into the void.
Two beings stood in that ruinous expanse — their battle shaking the Fifth Layer itself.
They came from two opposing races that would never stop until one was utterly annihilated.
The tragedy was that both sides were endless.
Their numbers, near infinite. Their strength, beyond the ceiling of known existence.
Every clash between angels and demons decided the fate of multiple universes — their wars rewriting creation itself.
Countless lives had already been lost to this eternal conflict.
Some lucky souls were purified by angels and reborn in Heaven.
Others were devoured by demons, their essence twisted beyond recognition.
But the most unfortunate were those erased completely — not even memory remained of their existence.
Now, the two stood face to face.
Void in his Primordial Demon Body, radiating unimaginable power.
The Death Angel, in his new form, unfolded wings of pure darkness — each feather a blade of oblivion sharp enough to slice through the Fifth Layer of Space like butter.
A chaotic storm of energy swirled around his form, draining the life out of everything nearby.
"System… what do you mean by low rank? Is it their grade or something else?" Void asked, visibly concerned as he reassessed his opponent.
(Host, not grade. Their grade is the highest under Heaven. But their ranks differ. They begin at Low Rank — equivalent to Rank 3 — and ascend all the way to Rank 6, the peak.)
"Ah… better." Void exhaled in relief.
"Weak weapon…" the Death Angel murmured, glancing at his cracked divine sword. The light that once radiated from it had dimmed greatly.
With a faint squeeze — crack! — the sword shattered to dust.
"Hmm. Hand-to-hand?" Void asked curiously, raising a brow.
The Death Angel grinned faintly, then stretched out his arm. Without warning —
Splurch!
He pierced his own chest with his hand, grinning even wider at Void.
His heart pulsed violently —
Dugoom… Dugoom… Dugoom…
"What the hell is he doing?" Void muttered, eyes narrowing.
Then —
POP!
The angel crushed his heart. But instead of blood, a swirling black mist seeped from the wound, coiling around his arm until it formed into a dark sword.
DOOOOOOM…
Void's heartbeat stuttered. A chilling dread ran down his spine.
He felt… hunted.
"The hunter," the Death Angel said coldly, voice echoing through eternity, "has become the prey."
Void froze. He felt two enormous eyes stare directly into his soul — eyes that weren't physical, but cosmic.
Life seemed to drain out of him.
"This isn't just Death Law…" he whispered, trembling. "It's too strong."
For a demon like Void — a being closer to death than most — the Death Law should have been nothing.
But this… this was different.
(Host, that is the Origin of Death.)
The system's voice echoed just as Void recalled the angel's earlier words.
"The Origin of Death?" he muttered. "System, what is it?"
He raised his Fire Law to resist the growing pressure — two blazing red eyes forming behind him, countering the darkness.
Yet compared to the black abyssal eyes of death, his flames were dim.
The two cosmic gazes behind them dwarfed even their massive bodies — each thousands of Mythological Units tall — and yet, the eyes made both appear as marbles before mountains.
Even so, Void's flames faltered. The Fire Law couldn't withstand the presence of pure Death.
Then… a faint outline appeared behind Void — an ancient demonic phantom.
His Primordial Demon Body fully activated.
At last, he could resist it.
For the first time, he unleashed 1% of his true power.
His strength multiplied severalfold, shaking the very layer of space.
(The Origin of Death is an advanced manifestation of the Death Law. It connects directly to the core of existence itself. Only beings at Rank 4 can wield it — it's one of the requirements for ascending to that realm.)
"Shit… no wonder," Void muttered, a flicker of fear and excitement flashing in his eyes.
(Yes, Host. You're not just fighting a Peak Rank 3 angel — but one who is half a step into Rank 4.)
"Holy shit…" Void whispered — just as the Death Angel moved.
CRACK!
Space tore apart. A vacuum of extinction bloomed around them.
Void's body was instantly covered in gashes, his abyssal blood spilling into the void.
"W-what the f—" Void gasped as pain surged through him.
"ARGH!"
He groaned, retreating, forcing space itself to warp. In an instant, he reappeared millions of Mythological Units away.
"System… we're screwed," Void muttered, clutching his chest.
But before he could recover—
SWOOOOSH!
The Death Angel appeared before him — faster than instant teleportation.
Void tried to move, but the angel didn't strike immediately. Instead, it spoke.
"Primordial Demon Body…"
Void froze.
Just a short distance away, the Death Angel observed him closely — the crimson lines coiling on his body, the aura of destruction, the sheer vitality of chaos.
"How do you know that?" Void asked, an uneasy feeling gnawing at him.
The angel tilted its head. "An attribute of Rank 4 demons. You're a rare one."
Void frowned. "What do you mean?"
"I've fought demons long before you were born," the Death Angel said. "Hahaha… Primordial Demons. I never thought your kind would awaken again so soon."
"What are you talking about?" Void demanded, tightening his grip on his sword.
"You think the Abyss is complete?" the angel sneered. "There are demonic bloodlines scattered across the Fifth Layer — just as there are fragments of every other race. You are not the only remnant, Void."
The revelation struck him like thunder.
For the first time in eons… Void's mind went blank.
"What do you... mean?" Void couldn't understand.
"Young one, just know the field isn't complete. A part of history has been covered up—but soon, everything will fall into place. Once they awake..." The Death Angel chuckled darkly. "Hahahaha... everywhere will burn, and finally, we will break through this cage of existence and ascend to a higher rank. The original bloodlines will return—and you, young blood, will witness it. Sadly, your odds of survival are too low. You are far too weak."
Void felt as though he had uncovered a terrifying truth about the past of existence itself. No wonder there were multiple abysses… Something had happened long ago—but according to the Death Angel, the past was hidden, clouded. For the first time, Void felt small… insignificant before the weight of the cosmos.
"I see," he muttered. "Though I don't understand it all, what I do know is that I must keep growing stronger—strong enough to survive any crisis that comes my way." His aura erupted, a storm of power and resolve.
"Exactly, demon," the Death Angel said with a cruel smile. "When that time comes, the strong will roam freely while the weak crawl like ants. Everything will change—the field will link together, and all beings will suffer. They will mourn, plead, and beg for mercy. But by then, only the strong shall command... and the weak shall obey."
He raised his blade, eyes gleaming.
"But young one, I am your first obstacle. Will you survive?"
BOOOM!
Void's body exploded—completely erased from existence.
