Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 11: Fifty Million Dollars
Delphinia stood by the bed, her hands gripping the edges of the mattress as she took deep breaths, trying to calm her spiraling thoughts. She inhaled sharply, held it for a moment, and exhaled, only to repeat the cycle again. It didn’t seem to help. She rubbed her temples as if kneading them might somehow massage away the headache forming there. Her voice, a low murmur, escaped her lips as she muttered to herself.
"This is crazy... No, impossible... I got divorced two days ago, and now this? Married to a stranger?"
She sounded like she couldn’t wrap her head around it, but it was plain as day. She was now tied to a man she barely knew. The very thought of it sent a shiver of regret crawling down her spine. If only she’d stayed home last night. Watching some terrible soap opera would’ve been a much safer choice than going out to a club with Valerie, where her life had apparently turned into one of those overly dramatic TV dramas.
From the couch, Evander was sitting on the couch, one leg over the other, totally calm, like he had all the time in the world. A small, sardonic smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth as he tilted his head slightly, watching her with amused eyes.
"You know," he began with a voice that was rich and smooth but laced with biting sarcasm, "you can keep doing that, but it’s not going to change the reality of the situation."
Delphinia paused with her hand near her temple. She slowly turned her head to glare at him, her sharp gaze cutting through the room. "Well, you’re acting way too calm for someone who just—just married a stranger!"
Evander’s smirk deepened, his eyes flashing with playfulness. "I could say the same thing about you. Last night, you were practically eager to marry me."
Delphinia’s cheeks flushed a deep shade of red, a mixture of embarrassment and frustration washing over her. She balled her hands into fists, trying to find the right words to counter him. "That doesn’t count!" she finally blurted. "I was drunk! How can you marry someone who’s drunk? Shouldn’t someone have stopped it? This is... this is insane!"
She groaned loudly and covered her face with her hands, shaking her head in disbelief. How could something so absurd happen to her?
Evander leaned forward slightly, resting his elbows on his knees as he watched her, his expression calm but faintly amused. "You didn’t seem to think it was insane last night," he remarked.
Delphinia lowered her hands abruptly, her eyes wide and pleading as she looked at him. "Mr. Walton," she said softly, shifting tactics. Her voice had a hint of panic, and her big eyes made her look like a lost puppy. "This marriage isn’t legal. I mean, I was drunk. That has to make it void, right? Let’s just end this. Please, I’ll go my way, and you go yours."
Evander raised an eyebrow, his lips quirking into a faint smile. "Fine," he said, shrugging nonchalantly.
Delphinia blinked in surprise. "Really?"
"For sure." He leaned back, looking relaxed. "All you have to do is pay me back."
Her heart skipped a beat. The relief she’d just begun to feel vanished in an instant. "Pay you back?!" she echoed, her voice shooting up an octave. "Pay you back for what?"
Evander’s eyes flicked toward the bedside table, where the glimmering diamond ring rested, catching the light. He gestured toward it casually. "For the diamond ring, of course. It wasn’t exactly cheap."
Delphinia’s eyes widened, her mouth hanging open in disbelief. "What? No! Why would I do that? You can have the ring back right now. I don’t want it."
Evander rose from the couch with ease, his tall frame towering over her as he walked toward the bedside table. He picked up the ring between his fingers, holding it up to the light as if inspecting it. The small smile playing on his lips grew slightly wider.
"Well," he said, turning the ring slightly in his hand, "if you don’t want it, I’ll just take it back then."
"Wait!" Delphinia exclaimed, holding out her hand as if to stop him. She stepped forward, narrowing the gap between them. "Why are you taking it back?"
Evander turned his head to glance at her, his expression neutral but his eyes brimming with amusement. "Because you said you didn’t want it. Simple."
Delphinia stared at him, her mouth opening and closing as she tried to formulate a response. Finally, she crossed her arms, her eyes narrowing into a glare. "If you’re taking it back, then I don’t have to pay you back, right? You’ll have the ring, so we’re even!"
Evander tilted his head, a smirk tugging at his lips. "Oh, no. You still have to pay me back. It’s a matter of principle." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
"What?" Delphinia nearly shouted, her voice filled with outrage. "That makes no sense!"
Evander gave her a knowing look before slipping the ring into his pocket. "You know," he began, "you’re really bad at negotiating." He took a step back, as if preparing to leave the room.
Delphinia darted forward, her hand shooting out toward him. "Wait!" she called, her voice slightly panicked. "Give me the ring back!"
Evander paused, turning to face her with a raised eyebrow. "I thought you didn’t want it."
"Well, I’ve changed my mind," she snapped, her arms crossing tightly over her chest. I’ll just sell it and use that money to pay you.
"Sorry," he replied smoothly, "but it’s too late for that. Don’t even think about getting it back."
Delphinia glared at him, her hands trembling slightly at her sides. She could feel the rage building inside her, threatening to spill over. "You’re—" she began, struggling to find the right word to describe him. "You’re evil!"
Evander chuckled softly, his deep voice sending a chill down her spine. "Call me what you want," he said, shrugging. "The rules are simple. If you want out of this marriage, you have to pay me back."
She gritted her teeth, eyes narrowing. "How much?" she demanded.
He met her gaze, expression calm as ever. "Fifty million dollars."
The words hit her like a punch to the gut, and she stumbled back a step, her eyes widening in shock. "Fifty million? Are you insane?"
Evander’s grin got bigger, his eyes shining with amusement. "It’s a fair price."
"For what?" she exclaimed, throwing her hands into the air. "A ring I didn’t even want in the first place?"
Evander stepped closer, his gaze locking with hers. "For all the trouble you’ve caused me."
