Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 122: Let’s Consider
Delphinia lay on the large, plush bed, staring at the ceiling with an impatient sigh. The sheets was soft against her skin, but it didn’t stop the restless feeling that kept bubbling up inside her. She glanced at the clock on the nightstand—nearly midnight.
She turned onto her side, propping her head on her hand as her gaze wandered to Evander’s empty side of the bed. The sheets remained untouched, neatly tucked under the pillow. Her lips pursed as a pang of worry prickled at her heart. He had been working late before, and while it wasn’t unusual, something about tonight felt different.
Finally, she decided to get up. She swung her legs over the side of the bed, slipping her feet into the soft slippers waiting for her. Her silk nightgown swayed gently as she walked toward the door. The hallway was dimly lit, quiet, and peaceful, but it felt lonely without him.
Delphinia hesitated outside the door to Evander’s study. Light seeped out from the gap beneath the door, faintsounds of rustling paper and a chair being dragged reached her ears. She raised her hand and knocked gently.
"Come in," Evander’s deep voice called from the other side.
Delphinia opened the door, stepping into the room. The warm glow of a desk lamp lit up Evander’s face as he looked up from a stack of papers. His expression softened immediately, and a small smile tugged at the corners of his lips.
"Why aren’t you asleep yet?" he asked, leaning back in his chair, his tone teasing.
Her eyebrow lifted slightly as she walked further into the space, stopping just a step away from him. "I could ask you the same thing," she countered lightly. She crossed her arms and tilted her head. "It’s late, and you didn’t come to bed. I was starting to wonder if you’d fallen asleep on your desk."
Evander chuckled softly, gesturing for her to come closer. "Worried about me, were you?"
"Not worried," Delphinia said, walking toward him. "Just... curious. But if you’re going to tease me, I might as well go back."
She turned on her heel, intending to make her point, but before she could take another step, she felt a sudden, firm tug on her wrist. She gasped as she lost her balance, falling back against something solid—Evander’s lap.
"Evander!" she exclaimed, her cheeks flushing as she found herself perched awkwardly across his thighs.
Evander’s arms wrapped securely around her waist to keep her from toppling over. His lips curled into a mischievous grin as he gazed up at her, his dark eyes twinkling with amusement. "Why so jumpy?" he teased. "You’ve never been this sensitive before. Are you... pregnant?"
Delphinia’s eyes widened in shock, and her face turned a deeper shade of pink. "N-no!" she stammered, flustered by his sudden question. She tried to push herself off his lap, but his arms held her firmly in place.
Evander chuckled softly, clearly enjoying her reaction. "Relax," he said, his voice soothing yet laced with humor. "I was only joking."
Delphinia glared at him, though the heat in her cheeks betrayed her embarrassment. "If you’re going to keep teasing me, I’m leaving for real this time," she muttered, avoiding his gaze.
Evander’s smile faded slightly as his expression shifted. He released a long, weary sigh, leaning his head back against the chair. The playful light in his eyes dimmed, replaced by a solemn weight.
"Evander," Delphinia said softly, noticing the sudden change in his demeanor. "What’s wrong? Did something happen?"
He hesitated for a moment, his jaw tightening. Then, he looked back at her, his eyes clouded with frustration. "Lydia came to see me today," he admitted, his voice low and tinged with annoyance.
Delphinia’s brows lifted in surprise. "Lydia?" she repeated. "Really?"
Evander nodded, his lips pressing into a thin line. "She was as infuriating as ever," he said, running a hand through his dark hair. "Going on and on about wanting to see Ashton, trying to guilt me into letting her back into his life."
Delphinia watched him closely, her expression thoughtful. She placed a gentle hand on his arm, her touch grounding. "And?" she prompted.
"And," Evander continued, his tone sharp, "I told her no. I told her my decision hasn’t changed. She doesn’t get to waltz back into Ashton’s life after everything she’s done."
Delphinia nodded slowly, a small smile playing on her lips. "That’s good," she said softly. "But, if I may... can I share my thoughts on this?"
Evander glanced at her, his brows furrowing slightly. "Go ahead," he said, leaning back in his chair as if bracing himself for her perspective.
Delphinia took a deep breath, her fingers brushing lightly against his arm. "I think you should consider letting Ashton meet Lydia," she said gently.
Evander’s expression darkened, and he opened his mouth to protest, but Delphinia held up a finger, pressing it lightly against his lips.
"Let me finish," she said firmly. "First, it could be good for Ashton. Even if she hasn’t been the best mother, it might help him to meet her and form his own opinion. And second... if you don’t, Lydia might force her way in."
Evander sighed heavily, his shoulders slumping. "I’ve thought about that too," he admitted. "But..."
"But," Delphinia interrupted, "what if Ashton wants to meet her? Have you asked him what he wants?"
Evander fell silent, his gaze dropping to the floor. The tension in his jaw betrayed his internal conflict. After a long moment, he let out another sigh and looked back at Delphinia. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
"Fine," he said quietly. "I’ll ask him."
Delphinia smiled, leaning forward to press a soft kiss to his cheek. "Thank you," she said warmly.
Evander reached up, brushing a strand of hair away from her face. "You always know how to talk me into things," he murmured, a small smile tugging at his lips once more.
Delphinia chuckled, resting her forehead against his. "Everything’s going to be okay," she whispered, more to herself than to him.
