Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 187: No More Faint
The car glided through the dimly lit streets, its engine humming softly as the city lights flickered past the windows. Evander’s hands gripped the steering wheel tighter than necessary, his sharp gaze fixed on the road ahead. His jaw was set, his mind still reeling from the events of the day.
"I still think you should’ve stayed at the hospital for at least one night," Evander muttered, breaking the silence. His deep voice carried a mixture of frustration and concern.
Delphinia, leaning against the passenger seat with her hands folded neatly on her lap, glanced at him with a small smile tugging at her lips.
"If I stayed there, I’d only worry Ashton," she replied softly. "Besides, I feel fine now."
Evander’s frown deepened, but he said nothing. They both knew he had no chance of winning this argument. He had tried countless times at the hospital, only to be met with Delphinia’s unwavering determination. She had always been stubborn in her own quiet way—something that both infuriated and enchanted him.
When the car finally pulled into the driveway, the warm lights from inside the house spilled onto the porch. Before Delphinia reached for the door handle, she turned to Evander, her fingers brushing lightly against his sleeve.
"Evander... please don’t tell Ashton," she murmured, her voice tinged with gentle pleading. "I don’t want him to worry."
Evander’s dark eyes flicked toward her, his brows furrowing. For a moment, he seemed ready to argue, but then he exhaled slowly, his features softening.
"I wasn’t planning to," he said, his voice low. "I don’t want him to worry either."
Delphinia’s heart warmed at his understanding, and she squeezed his arm briefly before opening the door. The cool evening air wrapped around her as she stepped out, Evander close behind.
The second they walked inside, Ashton’s bright voice echoed through the hallway.
"You’re home!"
The boy came running from the living room, his eyes lighting up when he saw both of them together. His gaze darted between them, his small face breaking into a grin.
"You went to pick up Delphinia, Dad?" he asked, tilting his head curiously.
Delphinia smiled, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "Yes... your father came to pick me up."
Evander’s lips twitched, holding back a smirk. Technically, she wasn’t lying. He did pick her up—but from the hospital, not some casual outing. Ashton’s innocent eyes didn’t need to know that detail.
"That’s cool," Ashton said brightly, completely unaware of the deeper truth. "I was waiting for you to come home."
Delphinia’s heart squeezed at his words, and she leaned down to kiss his forehead. "I’m home now."
The evening unfolded as if nothing had happened—like the fainting spell had been nothing more than a bad dream. They had dinner together, chatting about Ashton’s day at school and Evander’s work. Delphinia moved around the house as usual, setting plates and clearing dishes, though Evander’s watchful gaze never strayed far from her. He hovered quietly, always a step behind, ready to catch her if she stumbled.
By the time they retreated to their bedroom, the night had settled heavily over the house. The room was cast in a soft glow from the bedside lamps, the faint scent of lavender lingering in the air. Delphinia sat on the edge of the bed, brushing out her hair while Evander leaned against the doorframe, his arms crossed over his chest.
"How are you feeling now?"
Delphinia glanced at him through the mirror, catching the worry that still lingered in his dark eyes.
"I told you... I’m fine."
Evander pushed off the doorframe, walking toward her. His hands settled on her shoulders, warm and firm. He leaned down, pressing a kiss to the crown of her head.
"You’ll tell me the second you don’t feel fine," he murmured, his breath warm against her hair. "Promise me, Delphinia."
A small smile curved her lips, and she tilted her head back to look up at him.
"I promise."
Evander didn’t look entirely convinced, but he let out a low sigh, wrapping his arms around her from behind. His chin rested lightly on her head as they stayed like that, wrapped in the quiet comfort of each other’s presence.
After a long moment, Delphinia shifted slightly in his embrace, her voice soft. "By the way... Kai Robinson came to the Royals today."
Evander’s arms stiffened instantly, his entire body tensing. His sharp gaze flicked down to her, dark and dangerous.
"What?"
Delphinia twisted in his hold, looking up at him with calm eyes. "I saw him talking to Mr. Morris... trying to book the venue for his wedding. He wouldn’t take no for an answer."
Evander’s jaw clenched, a low growl rumbling in his chest. "Persistent bastard..."
Delphinia chuckled softly, brushing her fingers against his chest. "I hid behind a curtain... didn’t want to deal with him."
Evander’s frown deepened. "That’s probably what shocked you into fainting."
Delphinia grinned. "Maybe."
Evander’s scowl only darkened, his protective instincts flaring. "I’ll have them put up a sign—’Kai Robinson is not allowed to set foot on the premises.’"
Delphinia laughed, the sound soft and melodic. Her fingers traced soothing circles against his chest. "That might be a little excessive."
Evander only grunted, pulling her closer. His arms tightened around her as if trying to shield her from the entire world.
"I won’t let him near you again," he murmured fiercely.
Delphinia’s heart swelled at the quiet possessiveness in his voice. She leaned up, brushing a gentle kiss against his jaw.
"I know."
They stayed like that for a long moment, wrapped in the tender stillness of the night. Eventually, Evander loosened his hold just enough to guide her toward the bed. He tucked her beneath the blankets, his fingers brushing over her hair with infinite care.
Evander stayed by her side long after she had fallen asleep, watching over her in the quiet hush of the room. His heart was still pounding, the memory of her pale face and fragile body haunting him. No matter how strong she tried to act, she was still human—still the most precious thing in his world.
