Chapter 198: Start The Party

The grand ballroom of the Royals Hotel shimmered beneath the glow of golden chandeliers, casting a warm light across the marble floors. The atmosphere was lively, the air carrying the soft hum of conversation and the gentle clinking of crystal glasses. Even though the party had yet to fully begin, a handful of guests had already arrived, their laughter and chatter filling the elegant space.

Evander stepped through the towering double doors first, his tall figure cutting a striking silhouette against the bright lights. Dressed in a tailored dark blue tuxedo, the same shade as the night sky, he exuded an air of effortless power. His sharp gaze swept across the room, his posture straight and composed—every inch the formidable Evander Walton everyone knew.

Right beside him, Delphinia followed. Her heart pounded beneath the fabric of her midnight blue gown. The dress fit her perfectly, hugging her waist before flowing down to the floor in smooth ripples of silk. Tiny crystals shimmered across the bodice, like scattered stars against the velvet sky. Her dark hair cascaded in soft waves down her back, pinned delicately on one side with a silver hairpiece.

She could feel the weight of countless gazes falling upon them the moment they entered.

Delphinia kept her expression carefully composed, schooling her face into a calm, neutral mask. She had prepared herself for this moment, repeating over and over again in her mind that there was nothing to be nervous about. She was Evander Walton’s wife. She had every right to stand by his side.

Still, the faint tremble in her fingertips betrayed her.

Ashton walked beside her, his small hand resting inside hers. The little boy looked smart in his matching dark blue suit, his silver bow tie neatly fastened. He held his head high, though his wide eyes flickered around the room with barely contained curiosity.

"They’re all staring..." Delphinia whispered under her breath, her voice barely audible.

Evander glanced at her from the corner of his eye, a small smirk curving on his lips. "Let them stare. They’ve never seen anything more beautiful than you."

Delphinia’s heart gave a small, embarrassing jolt at his words, but she quickly pushed the feeling aside. Now was not the time to get distracted.

Before they could take more than a few steps into the ballroom, they were already approached by several guests.

"Happy birthday, Mr. Walton!" A middle-aged man with a round belly and a glass of champagne in hand greeted him warmly. His eyes sparkled with polite curiosity as they flicked toward Delphinia.

"Thank you," Evander replied with a faint smile. His voice was polite, yet distant—perfectly measured.

"I must say, it’s quite the surprise to see you hosting a party like this," the man continued, his gaze lingering on Evander as if he was trying to solve a puzzle. "You’ve always been... well, how should I put it—private."

Evander’s smile barely shifted. "Change is necessary sometimes."

The man chuckled, clearly caught off guard. He glanced at Delphinia again, his curiosity deepening.

"And who is this stunning lady by your side? Your..." The man’s voice trailed off, waiting for an answer.

Delphinia’s breath caught, her fingers tightening around her clutch. But before she could say anything, Evander replied smoothly.

"Someone special to me."

Delphinia’s eyes widened slightly, though she quickly lowered her gaze to hide her surprise. The words were simple—meant to sound vague—but they stirred something deep inside her chest. She couldn’t help but wonder... why not just say wife?

Was he trying to protect her from scrutiny? Or did he simply not want anyone to know?

She scolded herself for overthinking. Someone special was enough... wasn’t it?

Still, she couldn’t deny the faint twinge of disappointment that flickered inside her heart.

The same conversation played out several times as they slowly made their way through the crowd. People approached to offer their birthday wishes, their eyes always drifting toward Delphinia. Each time they asked who she was, Evander gave the same answer.

"Someone special."

Delphinia’s mind couldn’t help but wander. Maybe he didn’t want people to know... Maybe he regretted their marriage... Or perhaps—

"Wow... A yacht? Seriously?" she heard someone gasp from the side. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Delphinia blinked, snapping out of her spiraling thoughts. Her eyes darted toward the group of people nearby, overhearing their conversation.

"Yeah, a whole damn yacht. Someone actually gave him that as a birthday present. And I heard someone else gifted him stocks at Maple. Can you imagine? Most people get watches or wine... Evander Walton gets a yacht."

Delphinia swallowed hard, her grip tightening around her clutch again. The extravagant gifts only reminded her how far apart their worlds truly were. No matter how much she tried to blend in, she couldn’t forget that she was nothing but an outsider in this circle.

Her head began to spin, and that nagging voice at the back of her mind whispered again—Maybe that’s why he’s not introducing you... because you don’t belong.

No. Stop it.

She clenched her jaw, shaking her head subtly. She hated how easily her mind twisted everything into doubts. Evander had defended her fiercely earlier that day. He had always protected her. He wouldn’t have done all of that if he was ashamed of her.

Would he?

Delphinia let out a slow breath, forcing the dark thoughts away.

"Delphinia!"

The sound of her name startled her, breaking her from her tangled thoughts. She blinked, turning toward the familiar voice.

Elaine was hurrying toward them, a bright smile on her face. Victor trailed behind her, looking as polished as ever in his tailored suit. Ashton immediately perked up beside Delphinia, his small hand slipping from hers as he ran toward Victor.

"Dear, look at you!" Elaine beamed, pulling Delphinia into a warm hug. "I knew this dress would be perfect on you."

Delphinia’s lips curved into a shy smile. "Thank you... You look beautiful too."

Suddenly, Ashton tugged at Delphinia’s hand. "Delphinia... look."

Delphinia glanced down at him, frowning slightly. "What is it?"

Ashton didn’t say anything. Instead, he simply pointed toward the entrance.

Delphinia followed his gaze—and her heart skipped a beat.

There, walking gracefully into the ballroom, was Lydia Morgan.
