Chapter 213: Annoying Ex-In-Law

"Let go, Sandra."

Sandra smirked but didn’t release her. Instead, she leaned in slightly, eyes glinting with something malicious. "Fancy seeing you here. What brings you to a hospital? Finally trying to fix what’s broken in you?"

Delphinia bit the inside of her cheek, stopping herself from snapping back. She didn’t want a scene, especially not here. All she wanted was to get away.

"It’s none of your business," she said firmly, yanking her wrist free.

Sandra let out a laugh, tossing her hair back. "Oh, but everything about you has always been my business. You married into my family, remember?"

Delphinia crossed her arms, her patience running thin. "I’m not part of your family anymore, Sandra. And thank God for that."

Delphinia’s expression didn’t change as she stood across from Sandra. The woman before her looked just as she remembered—artificially perfect, dressed in designer clothes, and radiating an air of smug superiority.

Sandra chuckled, feigning amusement. "Oh, come on now. No need to be so cold. I was just curious. After all, life must’ve been tough after the divorce. What was it like? Sleeping on the streets? Or did the Harringtons take pity on you?"

Delphinia’s lips curled slightly, unimpressed by the jab. "How touching. Are you actually concerned, or are you just here to stroke your own ego?"

Sandra gasped in mock offense, placing a manicured hand over her chest. "Me? Stroke my ego? Please. I just assumed someone like you would be struggling. I mean, let’s be honest—what did you even have after Kai left you?" She leaned in slightly, lowering her voice. "It must have been humiliating."

Delphinia kept her composure, her face an unreadable mask. Sandra didn’t know a thing about her life after the divorce—she was just making assumptions, hoping to get a reaction. Delphinia wasn’t going to give her that satisfaction.

"I’m doing just fine," Delphinia replied smoothly. "Not that it’s any of your business."

Sandra narrowed her eyes. "Really? Then what are you doing in a hospital? Don’t tell me you’re working as a nurse now?" She let out a laugh, full of mockery.

Delphinia raised a brow. "And what about you? What brings you here? A little touch-up? Breast implants? Butt injections? I guess that would explain the desperation to keep up."

Sandra’s face twitched, her smug expression faltering for a split second before she forced a laugh. "Oh, sweetie, I don’t need enhancements. Unlike you, I’ve always been naturally beautiful."

Delphinia smirked. "If you say so."

Sandra’s fingers tightened around her designer purse. "At least I still have my dignity. You, on the other hand, must be miserable. No husband, no status—"

Delphinia tilted her head slightly, amusement flickering in her eyes. "Miserable? You sure about that?"

Sandra’s smirk wavered, sensing something was off in Delphinia’s tone, but before she could press further, a deep, familiar voice interrupted them.

"What’s going on here?"

Both women turned toward the voice. Evander stood a few feet away, his sharp eyes assessing the scene.

Sandra’s demeanor shifted instantly. Her lips curled into a flirtatious smile as she turned toward him, her posture changing as she brushed a hand through her perfectly styled hair.

"Oh, aren’t you Evander Walton?" she purred, her voice dripping with sweetness. "I’ve heard so much about you."

Delphinia barely contained her amusement as she watched Sandra attempt to charm Evander. Some things never changed.

Sandra had always been the type to chase after wealthy, powerful men, thinking she could charm her way into luxury with a well-placed smile and a few coy words. It was almost impressive how persistent she was, despite never actually succeeding. From what Delphinia remembered, Sandra had tried her luck with countless businessmen, politicians, and even a few minor celebrities—none of whom had ever taken her seriously.

And now, of course, Evander had crossed her radar.

It made sense. He was everything Sandra looked for: devastatingly handsome, wealthy beyond reason, and, most importantly, someone with an air of untouchable power. Evander wasn’t just rich—he carried himself like a man who owned the world and had no interest in entertaining those who weren’t worth his time. That alone would be enough to make Sandra eager to try her luck.

Delphinia almost felt bad for her. Almost.

The woman had no idea who she was dealing with.

Evander, however, barely spared Sandra a glance before turning to Delphinia. His expression softened as he focused on her, his entire demeanor shifting from cold indifference to warmth. "Is this woman bothering you?"

Sandra’s smile froze, her eyes widening slightly at his blatant dismissal.

Delphinia took the opportunity, stepping closer to Evander with a coy smile. "Oh, not at all. This woman was just trying to figure out how my life turned out after the divorce. I suppose she was expecting a tragic tale." She let out a soft, mocking sigh. "Imagine her shock when she realizes my life turned out... better than hers."

Evander smirked, his hand sliding effortlessly around Delphinia’s waist. He looked down at her with an affectionate gaze before pressing a soft kiss to the side of her temple. "Better is an understatement," he murmured, his voice low and possessive.

Sandra’s face turned rigid, her hands clenching slightly. "Wait a minute..." she stammered, her eyes darting between the two of them, finally noticing the subtle details—the way Evander held Delphinia, the wedding band on her finger. Her eyes widened. "You—you’re with her?"

Evander gave Sandra a bored glance before turning back to Delphinia. "Are you ready to go?"

Delphinia smiled up at him. "More than ready."

Sandra’s face contorted with frustration as they turned their backs on her. "Geez, so arrogant..." she muttered, seething.

Delphinia glanced over her shoulder one last time, her expression cold. "I doubt your life will turn out as well as mine, Sandra," she said smoothly before walking away with Evander, leaving the other woman standing there, humiliated and speechless.

As they walked toward the exit, Evander squeezed Delphinia’s hand. "That was fun," he remarked.

Delphinia chuckled. "Kai’s older sister. Always had a way of making a fool out of herself."

Evander smirked. "I have no doubt."
