Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 214: A Mother’s Guidance
Two days had passed since Delphinia and Evander announced their pregnancy, and life at the Walton mansion had settled into a peaceful rhythm. The morning sun bathed the backyard in a golden glow, a gentle breeze rustling through the neatly trimmed hedges. The scent of fresh flowers and the faint aroma of brewed tea filled the air as Delphinia sat across from Elaine, Evander’s mother, at the wrought-iron table set under a large white parasol. The porcelain teapot between them gleamed in the light, wisps of steam curling from the cups they held.
Elaine took a slow sip of her tea, her eyes soft as she looked at Delphinia. "I hope you don’t mind me coming over like this. Evander insisted I visit frequently now that you’re expecting."
Delphinia chuckled, cradling her warm cup between her hands. "Of course not. I appreciate it, actually. I don’t really have anyone to ask about these things."
Elaine’s gaze turned warm, filled with the kind of maternal understanding that Delphinia had never truly known. "Then I’m more than happy to be here for you. Pregnancy can be overwhelming, especially the first time. When I was carrying Evander, I was a mess."
Delphinia smiled, eager to hear more. "Really? I can’t imagine you being anything but poised."
Elaine let out a soft laugh. "Oh, believe me, I wasn’t. I craved the strangest foods—peanut butter with pickles, for one. Victor thought I had lost my mind. And the mood swings? One moment, I’d be weeping over a commercial, and the next, I’d be furious that the sky was too blue."
Delphinia giggled, feeling lighter at the thought. "That actually makes me feel better. I already find myself overthinking everything. I keep wondering if something will go wrong or if I’ll be a good mother."
Elaine reached over and gave her hand a reassuring squeeze. "Those worries are normal. But you’ll do wonderfully. I can already tell how much you love this baby. And love is the most important thing a mother can give."
Delphinia let out a slow breath, her heart swelling with warmth. She had spent so much of her life feeling alone, but at this moment, she felt seen, understood. "Thank you," she said sincerely.
Elaine smiled, but then her expression turned slightly serious. "Speaking of things I’ve heard..." She hesitated, swirling the tea in her cup. "I was told you plan to attend your ex-husband’s wedding."
Delphinia blinked, then nodded, setting her cup down. "Yes, I am."
Elaine arched an elegant brow. "Are you sure about that?"
Delphinia noticed the concern in her voice and quickly reassured her. "I appreciate your worry, but it’s something I want to do. And I promise, nothing will happen."
Delphinia wasn’t surprised by Elaine’s concern. In fact, she had been expecting it. If their roles were reversed, she would have done the same.
Her history with Kai wasn’t exactly a pleasant one. Their relationship—if it could even be called that—had been complicated, full of tension, unspoken words, and too many misunderstandings to count. It wasn’t just a simple falling-out or a minor grudge; it was deeper than that, rooted in things she wasn’t sure she even wanted to dig up.
So, of course, Elaine would worry. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
And now, after all this time, Delphinia was willingly choosing to go back into that storm? It made sense that Elaine was hesitant.
Delphinia offered Elaine a reassuring smile, hoping to ease the tension that had settled between them. "Evander will be there too, of course. I won’t be alone."
Elaine studied her for a long moment before finally nodding. Then, much to Delphinia’s surprise, a sharp glint of fire entered her eyes. "Good," Elaine said, her voice holding an unexpected fierceness. "You need to go and show them that you’re happy now."
Delphinia blinked, then let out an awkward chuckle. "You sound more worked up about this than I am."
Elaine huffed, taking a sip of her tea. "Of course I am. That man and his family treated you horribly. If it were up to me, I’d make sure they regretted it for the rest of their lives."
Delphinia smiled, touched by Elaine’s unwavering support. "Well, I doubt they’re having the best time in life. But I won’t go there with revenge in mind. I’m just... showing up."
Elaine smirked knowingly. "And that, my dear, is the best kind of revenge."
Delphinia sat back, a soft breeze playing with her hair. Perhaps Elaine was right. Maybe her mere presence would be enough to remind Kai and his family of what they had lost.
Elaine reached for her bag, her movements slow and deliberate. Delphinia watched with mild curiosity as Elaine rummaged through it before pulling out a small, elegant jewelry box. The sight of it alone made Delphinia frown slightly.
"I didn’t want my daughter-in-law," Elaine began, her tone dripping with sarcasm, "to attend the grand Robinson wedding looking just so-so." She flicked open the box with practiced ease, revealing a breathtaking diamond necklace nestled inside.
Delphinia’s breath caught in her throat. Her eyes widened as she stared at the shimmering stones, the light catching each facet in a dazzling display. A gasp slipped from her lips, and without thinking, she covered her mouth with both hands.
"Elaine..." she whispered, unable to form a full sentence.
Elaine’s smirk softened into something more genuine as she tilted her head slightly. "I assume that means you like it?"
Delphinia could only nod, still staring at the necklace as if it might disappear at any moment. The diamonds were arranged in a delicate yet intricate design, each stone perfectly placed. It wasn’t just expensive—it was the kind of jewelry that made a statement. The kind that demanded attention.
"I—this is too much," Delphinia finally managed to say, shaking her head. "I can’t accept this."
Elaine rolled her eyes, clearly unimpressed with the protest. "Oh, don’t be dramatic. It’s just jewelry. And it’s not like I went out and bought it—I’ve had this for years." She glanced at the necklace, a hint of nostalgia flickering in her eyes before she pushed it away. "It was just sitting in my safe, collecting dust. Might as well put it to good use."
Delphinia swallowed, overwhelmed by the gesture. "But still—"
"No buts," Elaine interrupted smoothly, picking up the necklace and holding it out. "Wear this to the wedding."
