Chapter 224: Mini Gathering (III)

The atmosphere in the living room remained lively, filled with laughter and playful banter. Evander’s friends, still caught up in their excitement of reuniting, turned their attention toward Delphinia.

"Come on, Delphinia," Wilson grinned, holding up a shot glass. "You have to drink at least one with us. It’s a celebration, after all."

Luca nodded eagerly. "Yeah, Evander’s finally a married man. That’s worth drinking to."

Delphinia let out a soft chuckle, shaking her head. "I can’t drink."

Oh, but she really could use one.

Evander, who had been lounging beside her, his arm draped possessively around her waist, smirked. "She can, but she won’t. At least not for now."

Luca raised a brow. "Why not?"

Evander leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees before flashing a triumphant smile. "Because she’s pregnant."

A moment of silence followed before the entire room erupted into cheers. Alaric nearly choked on his drink, Wilson whooped loudly, and even Cedric looked momentarily stunned before shaking his head with amusement. Valerie gasped dramatically and hugged Delphinia tightly.

"Oh my God! This is amazing! Congratulations!" Valerie squealed.

Luca clapped Evander on the back. "You old dog! Not only did you secretly get married, but now you’re going to be a father again?"

Evander smirked. "That’s right."

Wilson poured another drink into his glass and raised it. "Well then, a toast! To Evander and Delphinia—and their future little one."

Delphinia smiled warmly as everyone raised their glasses. Evander took her untouched drink, lifting it with his own. "Since she won’t drink, I’ll drink for the both of us."

The room filled with more cheers as Evander downed both drinks in one go, earning laughs and applause. The party carried on, with everyone loosening up further. Conversations flowed easily, playful arguments arose over ridiculous topics, and the occasional bursts of laughter echoed through the mansion.

As time passed, the effects of alcohol became more apparent. Most of Evander’s friends were completely drunk—Alaric and Wilson slouched on the couch, engaged in some slurred debate about who was better at basketball back in high school.

Luca had taken to dramatically reenacting some ridiculous story from their youth, with Valerie laughing hysterically beside him. Evander himself, while holding his liquor better than most, was leaning heavily into the cushions, his normally sharp gaze a little unfocused.

Delphinia, still very much sober, sighed as she glanced around the room. It was a mess—empty glasses scattered across the tables, the faint scent of alcohol hanging in the air. Despite this, she couldn’t deny that she was having fun watching them.

Gion, one of the few still sober, turned to her. "Hey, Delphinia, where does Valerie live?"

Delphinia blinked at the sudden question, then glanced at her friend. Valerie had her head resting against Luca’s shoulder, looking dangerously close to dozing off.

"She lives about tweenty minutes from here," Delphinia answered. "Why?"

Gion rubbed the back of his neck, looking slightly sheepish. "I figured I’d take her home. She’s had a bit too much."

Delphinia smirked knowingly, noticing the way Gion kept sneaking glances at Valerie. "That’s very thoughtful of you."

Gion rolled his eyes but didn’t deny it. "Yeah, yeah. And I’ll make sure the rest of these drunk idiots get home, too."

"Good luck with that," Delphinia chuckled.

Gion sighed, already dreading the task ahead. He moved toward Luca, nudging him. "Come on, man. Time to get going."

Luca groaned. "I don’t wanna move."

Gion sighed dramatically. "Yeah? Well, I don’t wanna carry you."

With some effort, Gion managed to rouse Luca and help him toward the door. Wilson and Alaric, though still groggy, followed suit with minimal complaints. Valerie, half-conscious, blinked up at Gion when he lightly shook her shoulder.

"Hm?" she murmured sleepily.

"I’m taking you home," Gion said softly. "Come on."

Valerie mumbled something incoherent but allowed him to help her up. Delphinia watched them go, shaking her head in amusement.

Finally, as the crowd thinned, only a handful of them remained—Delphinia, Cedric, Lydia, and Evander, who was currently sprawled out on the couch with his head tilted back, looking incredibly relaxed.

Cedric sighed, glancing at Evander. "He’s wasted."

Delphinia let out a small laugh. "Not entirely, but close enough."

Cedric stretched before standing up. "I’ll help Gion get the others to their cars, then I’ll help you get Evander to bed."

"Thanks," Delphinia said, watching as Cedric left to assist Gion.

Lydia, who had been mostly quiet throughout the night, finally spoke. "Well, that was entertaining."

Delphinia turned to her with a small smile. "Definitely."

Lydia’s gaze flickered toward Evander. "He doesn’t drink often, does he?" 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

Delphinia shook her head. "Not really. But tonight was special."

Lydia nodded in understanding before stretching. "I should get going, too."

Delphinia walked her to the door. "Thanks for coming."

Lydia gave her a brief smile before stepping out. Delphinia sighed in relief as the house finally quieted down.

Cedric soon returned, shaking his head. "Luca nearly tried to sleep in Gion’s car."

Delphinia laughed. "I’m not surprised."

Cedric glanced at Evander. "Let’s get this big guy to bed."

With Cedric supporting one side and Delphinia the other, they carefully guided Evander up the stairs. He was still conscious, though groggy.

As they entered the bedroom, Evander let out a content sigh. "Mmm... bed."

Delphinia shook her head fondly. "Yes, your bed."

They managed to ease him down onto the mattress. Cedric stretched, rolling his shoulders. "Alright, I’ll leave you to it. See you at lunch the day after tomorrow."

Delphinia smiled. "See you then."

As Cedric left, Delphinia turned her attention back to Evander, who was already half-asleep. She sighed and gently brushed a few strands of hair from his forehead.

Delphinia let out a soft sigh as she looked down at Evander, who was already halfway to dreamland. His breathing was slow and steady, his usually sharp features softened by the haze of alcohol and exhaustion.

She chuckled to herself, shaking her head. What a night.

All things considered, the gathering had been a success. Evander’s friends had come with their curiosity, eager to see what kind of woman had managed to tame the once unattainable Evander. And, well—she supposed she had done a decent job proving herself. They had asked their questions, poked their fun, and by the end of it, they had accepted her as one of their own.

But now came the real challenge.

She glanced at Evander, who let out a low grunt, shifting slightly on the bed. Taking care of my very drunk husband.
