Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 28: Unexpected Plans
As the aroma of roasted chicken filled the kitchen and dishes clattered, Delphinia wiped her hands with a dish towel. The simple act of helping prepare dinner had given her a rare sense of belonging in the big house, even if she often felt like an outsider. She glanced around to make sure everything was set—salad, bread, and the main course all perfectly arranged on the table.
"Dinner’s ready!" she called, her voice bright and cheerful as she stepped into the living room.
Evander and Ashton sat side by side on the plush couch, their eyes glued to the television. A family-friendly animated movie played, its cheerful music adding a lively undertone to the evening. He turned to look at her, a barely-there smile softening his face. Ashton, however, didn’t respond immediately, too absorbed in the colorful characters on the screen.
Delphinia placed her hands on her hips and smiled softly. "Evander, Ashton, come on, before the food gets cold."
Evander gave Ashton a light nudge. "Come on, buddy. Let’s not keep Delphinia waiting," he said, his voice calm yet firm.
Ashton dragged his eyes away from the screen, his expression a mix of frustration and agreement. "Fine," he muttered, hopping off the couch and following his father toward the dining room.
She followed them, her smile growing as she took in the sight of the two. It was still strange, this little dynamic they were forming. She grabbed a chair and sat across from them, feeling oddly cheerful.
Delphinia couldn’t stop herself from stealing glances at Evander. Earlier that day, he’d handed her something that left her in awe—a bank account in her name, filled with an amount that left her speechless.
Now, as she watched him help Ashton scoop mashed potatoes onto his plate, she couldn’t help but feel both thankful and oddly odd sense of responsibility. If he was willing to go this far, she had to step up her role as his so-called wife.
"Delphinia, are you okay?" Evander’s deep voice broke through her thoughts, and she realized she had been staring.
She blinked quickly, her cheeks heating up. "Yes! Sorry, I was just...thinking," she said hurriedly, flashing a sheepish smile.
Evander raised an eyebrow, his expression teasing. "Thinking about what?"
"Oh, nothing important," she replied, waving her hand dismissively. She ducked her head, focusing on her plate to avoid further questioning.
After dinner, Ashton excused himself and headed upstairs, leaving Delphinia and Evander to clear the table. She carried a stack of plates to the kitchen, humming softly to herself. Just as she was about to head to her room, she felt a presence behind her.
Turning around, she saw Evander leaning casually against the wall, his hands tucked into his pockets. His gaze was calm, but there was something unreadable in his eyes.
"Do you need something?" she asked, tilting her head slightly.
"Actually, yes," he said, pulling his phone out of his pocket. "I realized we don’t have each other’s numbers. Mind fixing that?"
Delphinia blinked in surprise, then let out a small laugh. "You’re right. That’s kind of weird for a married couple, isn’t it?" She took the phone from him and quickly typed in her number before handing it back.
"There you go," she said with a smile.
Evander glanced at the screen and nodded in satisfaction. "Thanks."
She turned to open her door, ready to retreat for the night, but his voice stopped her again.
"Wait."
She turned back, her hand still on the doorknob. "Yes?"
"We’re going to London tomorrow," he said casually, as if he were announcing something as casual as the weather.
Delphinia stared at him, her mouth falling open. "What?"
"For our honeymoon," he added, his tone utterly serious.
Her mind blanked for a second before she managed a nervous chuckle. "Good joke. You really had me there for a second."
She turned to open the door again, but Evander didn’t budge.
"I’m not joking."
Delphinia froze, then turned back slowly, her eyes wide with disbelief. "What do you mean? We don’t need a honeymoon. This isn’t a real marriage!"
Evander shrugged, his expression almost smug. "Think of it as a business trip, then. But you’re coming."
"No, absolutely not," she said, crossing her arms defensively. "There’s no reason for me to go."
"There is," he countered. "If you don’t, I’ll just add the cost of your refusal to your debt—flights, accommodations, everything."
Delphinia’s jaw dropped. "You can’t do that!" 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
"I can," he said with a slight smirk.
She bit her lip, torn between frustration and disbelief. She had no intention of going on some fake honeymoon, but just thinking about adding to her already huge debt made her feel sick.
Desperate for a way out, she bolted out of her room and down the hallway, her eyes lighting up when she saw Ashton coming out of his room.
"Ashton!" she called, her voice bright and cheerful.
He looked up at her, his expression curious. "What is it?"
Delphinia crouched down to his level, her smile widening. "Guess what? Your dad has a surprise for you. We’re going on holiday tomorrow!"
Ashton’s face lit up, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "Really? Where are we going?"
She straightened up and glanced back at Evander, who had followed her down the hallway. "Look at Ashton—he’s so excited. You wouldn’t want to ruin that, would you?" she said, folding her arms and raising an eyebrow.
Evander sighed, looking both amused and a little annoyed. Ashton, oblivious to the silent battle between the two adults, ran up to his father and hugged his leg tightly.
"Where are we going, Dad?" Ashton asked eagerly, looking up at him with wide eyes.
Evander placed a hand on Ashton’s head, ruffling his hair gently. "London," he said simply.
Ashton let out a delighted cheer and hugged him even tighter. Delphinia stood a few steps away, her arms still crossed but a triumphant smile playing on her lips.
"Looks like it’s settled," she said, her tone light but teasing.
Evander shot her a bitter smile, one that said she had won this round, but not without consequences. Ashton tugged on his father’s hand. "When are we leaving? Can we go see Big Ben? And Buckingham Palace?"
Evander nodded, his expression softening as he looked down at his son. "We’ll see everything, I promise."
Delphinia watched the exchange, her heart warming despite herself. As much as she disliked being cornered into this trip, seeing Ashton’s excitement made it all worth it.
With a satisfied smile, she turned and headed back to her room. "I’d better start packing," she called over her shoulder.
"Don’t forget—early morning," Evander reminded her.
She waved a hand dismissively, already planning how she’d manage this unexpected adventure.
