Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 29: Unwanted Honeymoon
Delphinia sat cross-legged on her bed, staring at the half-filled suitcase on the floor. Her fingers toyed with the zipper, sliding it up and down without thinking. She hadn’t gotten a single minute of rest. Evander Walton was going to be the death of her, she was sure of it.
A honeymoon? Why on earth would he suggest such a thing? She shook her head, muttering under her breath, "Honeymoon, my foot. This man has lost it."
Her eyes flicked toward the clock on the wall—5:30 AM. Delphinia sighed and stood up, pacing the room. Her exhaustion weighed heavily on her, but her racing mind kept sleep at bay. Four days in London. Four days pretending to be a happy little family. Thank goodness Ashton was coming along. Whatever sneaky plans Evander had in mind was bound to fail with Ashton coming along.
Finally, she zipped up her suitcase and dragged it toward the door. The wheels squeaked slightly as she rolled it across the carpet. "Here we go," she whispered, steeling herself for the day ahead.
Downstairs, the living room was eerily quiet. Delphinia plopped onto the couch, her suitcase standing next to her like a silent companion. She played with the strap of her bag, her eyes darting toward the staircase every now and then. Moments later, the sound of footsteps echoed from above. She glanced up to find Evander coming down the stairs, suitcase in hand, with Ashton bouncing along behind him, bursting with energy.
"We all ready?" Evander’s deep voice broke the silence as he reached the bottom of the stairs. His dark hair was a little messy, and his sharp features were calm, giving nothing away.
"Ready!" Ashton shouted enthusiastically, throwing his little fists into the air.
Delphinia managed a weak smile. "Yeah, ready," she replied, her voice lacking the same energy. She grabbed her suitcase and followed the pair out the door.
The car ride to the airport was filled with Ashton’s chatter.
"I want to see the big clock tower, and the red buses! Oh, and can we eat those fish and chips? I saw them on TV once! Are we going to see the queen’s castle too?" Ashton’s voice was a constant stream of excitement.
Delphinia leaned her head against the window, watching the city blur past. She envied Ashton’s enthusiasm.
Evander, seated in the driver’s seat, glanced at her through the rearview mirror. "Not feeling the excitement yet, Mrs. Walton?" he asked, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.
Delphinia shot him a glare. "Don’t push your luck, Mr. Walton."
Evander chuckled softly and returned his focus to the road.
When they arrived at the airport, Delphinia’s jaw dropped. "Wait. Is that a private plane?" she asked, her voice rising an octave as she pointed toward the shiny jet waiting on the runway.
Evander parked the car and stepped out, retrieving their luggage from the trunk. He didn’t bother hiding his amusement. "Yes. Why are you so surprised? I thought your family had one too."
Delphinia blinked, momentarily speechless. Her family? The thought of comparing her upbringing to his wealth was laughable. But before she could respond, Ashton grabbed Evander’s hand and started pulling him toward the plane. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
"Come on, Dad! Let’s go!" Ashton’s face lit up with excitement as he dragged him along.
The crew was already waiting at the foot of the stairs. They greeted Evander with formal smiles, then turned to her.
"Welcome aboard, Mrs. Walton," one of the stewardesses said warmly.
Delphinia’s stomach twisted at the title, but she managed a polite nod. "Thank you," she murmured, following Ashton up the stairs.
Inside, the plane was luxurious, with plush leather seats, wood-paneled walls, and soft lighting. Ashton immediately ran to a window seat, pressing his face against the glass. Delphinia followed, taking the seat beside him. Evander, however, lingered for a moment, his gaze briefly meeting hers before he settled into a seat across the aisle.
The crew moved efficiently, preparing for takeoff. One stewardess leaned down to explain the safety procedures to Ashton, who listened with wide eyes. Meanwhile, Evander’s deep voice cut through the soft hum of the engines.
"This is your first time on a private jet, isn’t it?" he asked, looking directly at Delphinia.
She crossed her arms and leaned back in her seat. "What gave it away? The shock on my face or the fact that I can’t stop looking around?"
Evander chuckled. "Relax. You’ll get used to it."
Ashton, oblivious to their exchange, was already talking about all the things he wanted to do in London. Delphinia smiled at his enthusiasm, her earlier irritation momentarily forgotten.
As the plane started moving, Evander leaned forward slightly, catching Ashton’s attention. "Here it comes, buddy.—your favorite bit where everything shrinks."
Delphinia couldn’t help but watch him. It was strange, seeing this softer side of Evander. The way he interacted with Ashton was almost...endearing.
Once they were in the air, Ashton excused himself to use the restroom. Delphinia seized the opportunity. She leaned toward Evander, her voice low.
"Just so you know, I’m not sorry for ruining your little plan."
Evander’s brow lifted slightly, a faint smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. "On the contrary, I think it worked out for the better. We do need to spend time together, after all."
Delphinia scoffed. "You’re impossible." She turned away, her arms crossed tightly over her chest.
The soothing sound of the engines and the warm cabin lighting eased her nerves. She struggled to keep her eyes open, but sleep finally won.
She didn’t realize when she drifted off, nor did she notice when her head began to tilt. It wasn’t until the soft, steady rhythm of someone’s breathing reached her ears that she stirred slightly. Her head rested on a firm shoulder—definitely not Ashton’s.
Her eyes shot open, and she found herself staring at Evander’s profile. He had moved to the seat beside her at some point, and now he sat there, completely unfazed, flipping through a magazine.
Delphinia jerked upright, her cheeks flaming. "W-What are you doing here?" she stammered, brushing her hair out of her face.
Evander looked at her calmly, a small smirk playing on his lips. "Relax. You were asleep, and I didn’t want you to wake up with a stiff neck."
She glared at him, flustered. "I don’t need your help."
"Clearly."
Delphinia huffed and turned away, determined to ignore him for the rest of the flight. But as she sat there, her heart pounding and her face still warm, she had a feeling this so-called honeymoon was going to be way messier than she’d expected.
