Chapter 30: A London Surprise

It was a smooth landing, the plane’s wheels barely making a sound as they met the runway. Delphinia let out a sigh of relief. She wasn’t afraid of flying, but spending hours in the confined space with Evander’s smug glances had tested her patience. She glanced out the window, seeing the faint silhouette of London in the distance.

The chilly London breeze caught her off guard as she got off the plane. At the bottom of the stairs, a fancy black car waited, its surface mirroring the cloudy sky. A man in a black suit and hat stood by the car door, bowing slightly as they approached.

"Welcome, Mr. Walton, Mrs. Walton, and Young Master," he said, his voice even and formal.

Delphinia blinked, unsure whether to feel flattered or annoyed by the title she was once again assigned. Beside her, Ashton grinned widely, clearly enjoying being addressed as "Young Master."

"Whoa! That’s so cool!" Ashton exclaimed, tugging at Evander’s sleeve.

She smiled faintly at that, more focused on the additional figures standing nearby. A group of men in suits—bodyguards, no doubt—stood a respectful distance away, scanning their surroundings like pros.

Evander stepped forward, gesturing for the driver to take their luggage. "Let’s go," he said simply, his deep voice cutting through the still air.

Inside the car, Ashton chatted excitedly, bouncing in his seat as he pressed his face to the window to catch glimpses of the London streets.

"Look at that building! And that one! Are we going to see the clock tower soon?" Ashton’s voice was filled with wonder.

Delphinia couldn’t help but smile at his enthusiasm. "Slow down, Ashton. We just got here."

Evander, seated beside Ashton, smirked. "Let him enjoy it. London has a lot to offer, doesn’t it?"

Delphinia rolled her eyes and sank into her seat, watching the city pass by. Victorian townhouses lined the streets, cobblestones beneath them, with red buses adding a classic London vibe. For a moment, she felt at ease. But her peace was short-lived when the car slowed and turned into a private drive lined with towering trees. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

They arrived at a massive mansion framed by perfectly trimmed gardens and tall iron gates. Delphinia’s mouth fell open as she stepped out of the car, taking in the grandeur of the estate. It was a stunning blend of vintage elegance and modern flair, with big arched windows, pale stone, and detailed carvings decorating the facade.

"What kind of hotel is this?" Delphinia asked, her brow furrowed as she turned to Evander. "Why does it feel like we’re the only guests?"

At her question, one of the nearby bodyguards coughed, quickly turning his head as if to stifle a laugh. Another guard subtly looked away, his shoulders shaking with suppressed amusement. Evander, however, didn’t bother hiding his reaction. He chuckled openly, his deep laugh echoing in the cool air.

"What? Did I say something funny?" Delphinia asked, confused and slightly irritated.

Evander folded his arms, his smile growing wider. "Are you actually this clueless, or are you just pretending to be?"

Delphinia narrowed her eyes, her cheeks flushing. "Excuse me?"

Evander gestured toward the mansion. "This isn’t a hotel, Delphinia. It’s my mansion."

Delphinia froze, her eyes widening. "Your mansion?" she repeated, her voice rising slightly.

Evander smirked and turned toward the house, already walking up the steps. "Yes. Try to keep up."

Ashton, oblivious to the exchange, skipped ahead to join Evander. Delphinia stood there for a moment, processing. Of course, it was his mansion. Why was she so shocked? She’d literally just flown on his private plane. Rolling her eyes, she picked up the pace, her suitcase bumping along the cobblestones.

Inside, the mansion was breathtaking. The foyer alone could rival the grandest of ballrooms, with its high ceilings, crystal chandelier, and sweeping staircase. The marble floors sparkled under the golden light, and the fancy furniture made the whole place look like a palace.

Delphinia barely had time to take it all in as the staff greeted them warmly, taking their luggage to their respective rooms. Evander disappeared momentarily, likely giving instructions to the staff, leaving Delphinia to explore on her own.

She wandered through the mansion, taking in how ridiculously fancy everything was. Each room seemed more beautiful than the last. The living room was cozy yet elegant, with plush sofas and a grand piano tucked into the corner. The library was straight out of a bookworm’s fantasy, with shelves that reached the ceiling and a cool rolling ladder.

Eventually, Delphinia found herself on a balcony overlooking the garden. The view was stunning, with blooming flowers everywhere and a sparkling fountain stealing the show. She leaned against the railing, letting the cool breeze brush against her face.

"Isn’t it beautiful?" a familiar voice said beside her.

Delphinia jumped slightly, turning to find Evander standing there. He stared out at the horizon, a tiny smile tugging at his lips.

"It is," she admitted reluctantly, her voice softer than before.

Evander shot her a quick look, his eyes twinkling with humor. "You know, this reminds me of our first meeting."

Delphinia’s cheeks instantly burned. "Don’t start," she warned, her tone half-pleading, half-annoyed.

Evander chuckled. "How could I not? You were so—"

"Stop!" she interrupted, holding up a hand. "I don’t want to hear it."

He tilted his head, clearly enjoying her embarrassment. "Fine. For now," he teased.

Delphinia huffed and turned away, muttering something under her breath as she walked back inside. Evander’s soft laughter followed her, and she swore she could still feel his gaze on her long after she was out of sight.

Not long after, Evander gathered them both back into the car. Ashton was practically bouncing with excitement, while Delphinia took her time, hoping to prolong her escape from Evander’s teasing.

As the car pulled out of the mansion’s driveway, Evander glanced at Delphinia. "We’ll only be here for a few days," he said casually. "Ashton needs to be back in school by midweek."

Delphinia felt an overwhelming sense of relief. "Good," she said, a little too quickly. "The sooner we’re back, the better."

Evander smirked. "Don’t sound too excited, Mrs. Walton."
