After Rebirth, I Accept The Arranged Marriage-Chapter 122: Coincidence
The steam from the hot spring had given Nina Walsh’s face a charming, rosy flush. But after what Jessie Sterling just said, the color drained from her cheeks in an instant. Just as quickly, a deep crimson blush of embarrassment flooded her face.
’How am I supposed to explain this? I’m not related to Roman Lynch and the guys by blood, so how can I be more familiar with them than Serena Lynch, their actual sister?’
"...I was just sharing some interesting stories from my time studying abroad with the guys." After a long pause, Nina Walsh managed a strained smile. "They studied abroad before too," she said to Jessie Sterling, "so they have a lot of experience I can learn from."
Jessie Sterling said, "Oh," nodding as if she actually believed her. "You’re quite the diligent student, then! You know, Lynn, Luna, and I all studied abroad, too. Anything they know, we also know."
She said as much, but Jessie Sterling certainly didn’t offer to help if Nina Walsh needed anything or had any questions in the future.
She had no desire to invite any trouble.
But by saying what she did, she wanted to make it clear to everyone that Nina Walsh’s behavior was suspicious.
’Isn’t she just making things more complicated than they need to be?’
Jessie Sterling watched with satisfaction as the smile on Nina Walsh’s face began to falter. Just then, a very excited, if not particularly skilled, Lynn Jennings drove up on an ATV.
The moment Lynn Jennings arrived, she saw Nina Walsh still leaning on the edge of the pool, not far from a group of men. The player couldn’t help but let out an exaggerated, "Whoa! You guys sure know how to have fun!"
Lynn Jennings swore she wasn’t being sarcastic. It was the genuine, uncontrolled exclamation of a player who had just discovered someone who played the game even better than she did.
But Nina Walsh, who heard the comment, did not look pleased.
Jessie Sterling and Serena Lynch, who had also heard Lynn, both burst out laughing.
"Hahaha, come on, let’s go. We’ll grab a seat at the restaurant next door and wait for them," Serena Lynch said to the others.
Jessie Sterling nodded. Without so much as a glance in Victor Morgan’s direction, she strode purposefully to Serena Lynch’s side.
Victor Morgan’s gaze, however, was fixed on Jessie Sterling the entire time.
The pool was huge, and Nina Walsh had been blocking the spot closest to the exit. Even when he saw Jessie Sterling appear, he couldn’t easily get to her.
"Old Man Morgan..." As Victor Morgan’s gaze followed Jessie’s retreating figure, the bare-chested Xavier Warren next to him placed a hand on his shoulder. "Ahem, I think I really messed things up for you today..."
Xavier Warren avoided eye contact as he spoke.
When Nina Walsh had "accidentally" wandered in earlier, the guys had just gotten into the pool.
Victor Morgan had suggested letting Nina Walsh have the pool. He and the other guys, who didn’t mind the cold, could go soak in the smaller pools or head up to the restaurant to play cards.
But both he and Roman Lynch had held Victor back, saying she was like a little sister they’d grown up with. They’d known her since she was a toddler; what was there to be so shy about?
Besides, Nina Walsh saw them as older brothers. Soaking in a huge pool for twenty or thirty minutes was no big deal.
Victor Morgan had actually tried to get out, but Xavier had held him down.
And now...
All Xavier Warren could do was smile wryly.
He hadn’t expected Jessie Sterling to walk in on them. On top of that, both she and Serena Lynch had clearly had a strong reaction.
Victor Morgan shot Xavier Warren a cold glare, pushed his hand away, and grabbed a nearby bathrobe. He wrapped it tightly around himself and turned to head for the changing room.
Xavier Warren watched him go, running a hand through his hair in frustration.
And then something happened to frustrate him even more.
Xavier Warren watched, stunned, as Nina Walsh also climbed out of the hot spring right after Victor. From the looks of it, she was planning to follow him.
Xavier Warren: "..."
He irritably kicked Roman Lynch, who seemed to be off in his own world. "Hey! Old Man Lynch, what the hell is up with your sister?"
Roman Lynch: "What do you mean, what’s up?"
Xavier Warren: "..."
’This guy is even more clueless than I am.’
"I think Nina just went after Old Man Morgan," Xavier Warren said.
Roman Lynch grunted in surprise and frowned.
"She doesn’t still have a thing for Old Man Morgan, does she?" Xavier Warren asked.
"She definitely has a thing for your husband. Even though he’s married, I can tell she hasn’t given up on the idea."
This was the very topic being discussed among the three women. Lynn Jennings said this while chewing on some dried shredded squid.
She might be a player, but she was a player with standards. She could see right through the games men and women played.
Serena Lynch glanced at Jessie, looking a little embarrassed. After all, she was technically Nina Walsh’s older sister.
"Hey, Jessie, Victor definitely has no interest in Nina. I can promise you that with absolute certainty!" Serena Lynch said.
"I know," Jessie said with a docile nod.
Serena Lynch: "Then are you..."
She started to tentatively ask if Jessie was angry, but before she could finish, Jessie answered.
"But I’m still going to sleep with Lynn tonight!" Jessie declared.
Lynn Jennings certainly didn’t have a problem with that. She just figured President Morgan’s opinion of her was about to plummet to a new low...
"Even if Nina is interested in him and he isn’t, doesn’t he know enough to keep his distance? A married man in a hot spring with another woman... it’s just gross. I’m disgusted," Jessie said with a pout.
Serena Lynch: "..."
Lynn Jennings: "..."
’Even though she’s technically telling the truth,’ the other two thought, ’she makes it sound like Nina and Victor were in the hot spring alone.’
Wasn’t Victor getting the short end of the stick here?
But the moment that thought crossed their minds, both Lynn Jennings and Serena Lynch quickly shook their heads.
’Of course he’s not being wronged! Any man who makes his wife unhappy is no good.’ 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
"By the way," Jessie said, turning to Serena, "does The Caldera Resort have security cameras?"
"Definitely," Serena said. "It’s not cheap to stay here, the grounds are sprawling, and we’re out in the suburbs. Xavier was worried about something happening, so this place is covered in security cameras."
Jessie thought for a moment. "Do you know where everyone’s rooms are located?"
Serena Lynch: "Huh? No, why?"
Lynn Jennings knew Jessie too well; a single glance from her friend was all it took for Lynn to guess what she was thinking.
"You think President Morgan’s group drove past Nina’s window, she saw them, and that’s why she followed? That it wasn’t a coincidence?" Lynn asked.
