Chapter 123: Chapter 123: The Young Miss is Hard to Coax

Serena Lynch’s brow quirked up when she heard that. She had to admit, it was a real possibility.

"Hold on a second."

With that, Serena Lynch made a call.

After murmuring a few instructions, she received several messages on her phone a moment later.

"Come take a look," Serena Lynch said.

Jessie Sterling and Lynn Jennings leaned in closer.

On Serena Lynch’s phone was a map showing the layout of all the villas at The Caldera Resort. A few of the villas were marked as occupied, with the guests’ names registered next to them.

"I had the front desk send it to me," Serena Lynch explained. She was a friend of Xavier Warren’s and had been to The Caldera Resort many times, so the staff all knew her. Besides, Xavier had booked the entire place for the day, so all the guests were friends. When Serena asked for a copy of the guest registration map, it wasn’t really a privacy concern, so the front desk sent it over without any fuss.

"Nina Walsh’s room is the one closest to the mountaintop hot spring," Lynn Jennings pointed out.

Serena Lynch nodded, then opened the next few files, which were security videos.

One was from a camera on the road outside Nina Walsh’s cabin.

It showed Nina Walsh driving out just two minutes after Victor Morgan and the other two men had driven past.

There was another video, this one from the yard of Nina’s cabin.

It was the front yard, not the back, so there was no risk of capturing private moments like guests using the hot spring.

The camera in the yard had a view of the entire cabin.

After all, they were on a mountain, and the buildings were all rustic-style houses. Xavier Warren had installed the cameras with potential fire hazards in mind.

But now, this camera clearly showed that after Roman Lynch had dropped her off, Nina Walsh hadn’t gone to bed. Instead, she had been standing right by the second-floor French windows, staring at the road nearby.

"Tsk." Lynn Jennings had no love for Nina Walsh and sneered, "Talk about obvious. It’s so clear what she was after."

Serena Lynch pressed her lips together. She had often found certain things a bit suspicious, but Roman Lynch and the others were too thick-skinned to notice, which only made Nina Walsh more and more brazen.

"I’ll have a serious talk with her later," Serena Lynch said, looking at Jessie Sterling with an apologetic expression.

Today was supposed to be a fun outing with friends, but Nina’s little stunt had completely ruined the mood, hadn’t it?

Jessie Sterling smiled. "You’re not her guardian. Besides, she’s an adult. She should have learned to take responsibility for her own actions by now. Don’t apologize to me, and don’t go looking for her. You’ll only end up getting blamed for it."

They weren’t actual sisters, after all. If Serena Lynch tried to intervene, she’d probably just end up caught in the middle and blamed by both sides.

Serena Lynch smiled and couldn’t help but take another look at Jessie Sterling.

’People from our background have been treated with privilege since birth. Even I can’t say that I often think about things from other people’s perspectives, but Jessie seems to have a knack for it.’

’Her nickname out in the world is "the Heiress." Everyone knows she’s doted on at home, does whatever she wants, and is completely unconventional—she even walked away from the massive Sterling Bank just because she felt like it. She’s self-centered and totally spontaneous. But if you’re a friend she’s accepted, she’s like a little angel. She makes you love her so much you never want to let go, and you just want to pull her into a hug and squeeze her.’

They were all privileged women; no one was inherently more noble than anyone else.

As Serena Lynch looked at Jessie Sterling, she finally gave in to temptation. She reached out and poked Jessie’s full, rosy cheek.

"Hey!" Jessie Sterling whipped her head around, her eyes wide with astonishment as she looked at Serena Lynch. Her gaze screamed, ’What are you doing?!’ 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

Meeting Jessie’s stare, Serena Lynch sheepishly pulled her hand back.

She didn’t know what had possessed her to suddenly reach out and poke Jessie’s face, which looked so soft, supple, and smooth.

"Hehe..." Serena Lynch giggled. "I couldn’t help it. Jessie, you just look so... squishable."

Jessie Sterling: "..."

’So improper!’

Jessie Sterling didn’t have to wait long in the restaurant with Serena Lynch and Lynn Jennings before Victor Morgan appeared at the entrance.

Lynn Jennings and Serena Lynch tactfully moved aside, leaving space for the couple.

Victor Morgan’s hair was still damp, a clear sign he had rushed over without even taking the time to dry it.

It wasn’t that Jessie Sterling hadn’t seen Victor Morgan; she just acted as if she hadn’t. As he approached, she didn’t greet him, nor did she even bother to spare him a glance.

Victor Morgan pressed his lips together. He sat down in the seat closest to Jessie and got straight to the point. "After Nina Walsh came over, I didn’t say a word to her."

A ghost of a smile played on Jessie Sterling’s lips. Hearing his words, she remained silent, as if she couldn’t care less.

Victor Morgan frowned. ’Bringing up Xavier Warren and Roman Lynch now would feel less like an explanation and more like using them as scapegoats.’

His lips formed a thin, straight line. "I’ll be more careful next time."

Jessie Sterling’s gaze finally landed on Victor Morgan’s face. Just as he was about to breathe a sigh of relief, he heard her voice—

"I’m sleeping with Lynn tonight."

Her voice was light and cheerful.

But hearing this, Victor Morgan’s brow furrowed so deeply he could have crushed a fly between his eyebrows.

"I already apologized," Victor Morgan said.

Jessie Sterling’s faint smile vanished. "I heard you." After saying that, she asked him a very serious question in return. "Just because you apologized, does that mean I have to forgive you?"

She had seen her husband in a hot spring with another woman. She was in a terrible mood.

And when she was in a bad mood, was she supposed to be considerate of others?

She wasn’t some kind of selfless saint.

Unhappy was unhappy. Did he think his couple of half-hearted excuses would suddenly make her happy again?

The Heiress was sometimes easy to placate, but other times, she was incredibly stubborn.

Victor Morgan was left speechless by Jessie’s retort, and his expression grew stern.

Just then, Xavier Warren and the others walked in.

Xavier Warren couldn’t help but feel a pang of guilt when he saw Jessie Sterling. This feeling intensified when he met the hostile gaze of his friend, the man he’d been thick as thieves with since they were kids.

’Uh oh. Looks like he hasn’t managed to smooth things over with his wife, huh?’

Xavier Warren gave a strained laugh and greeted Jessie and her friends.

But aside from Lynn Jennings, who gave him a little face by glancing up and nodding, the other two barely reacted, as if they hadn’t heard him at all.

Being ignored didn’t make Xavier Warren angry; it just made him more nervous. He couldn’t help but nudge Roman Lynch, who was standing beside him.

And next to Roman Lynch was Nina Walsh.
