After Rebirth, I Replaced My Ex-Husband's True Love-Chapter 161: Exposed True Colors
Laura felt sorry for her daughter and rushed to comfort her. I watched coldly, "Azure, if you own up to some things and admit your mistakes, it might be better. Otherwise, you’ll just make people hate you more and lose everything you have now."
Azure was stunned, seemingly taken aback by my words, but after a few seconds, she regained her innocent demeanor, "Miss Hathaway, I don’t know what you’re talking about. I know you don’t like me because of Mr. Preston, but don’t worry. Once I have money, I’ll repay all these expenses to him, as if I borrowed it."
"Not necessary." Henry Preston replied faster than I did.
Hope flashed in Azure’s eyes, but she quickly hid it.
How could Henry care about that little money? Of course, he wouldn’t ask Azure to pay him back, and since we’re already divorced, there’s no shared property between us. It’s his money, he can spend it however he wants, on whoever he wants.
"Brother Henry!"
Suddenly, Silas Lockwood’s voice came through. He rushed in, sweating profusely, obviously hurrying to get there. He hesitated for a moment upon seeing us gathered there.
Behind him were Crystal Dawson, Tiana O’Connell, and Leah Lane.
Azure saw Silas Lockwood arrive and a smile appeared on her face, "Silas, are you here to see me off?"
Previously, Silas Lockwood’s attitude toward her had changed significantly. Today, she was going to Country D for surgery, and since Silas rushed over, she easily assumed he was there to see her off.
But I didn’t think so. Would Silas Lockwood dare to bring Crystal Dawson to see Azure off? Unless he suddenly got tired of living and wanted to die under Crystal’s merciless clutches.
"Haha, I’m here to discuss something with Brother Henry." Silas forced a smile and quickly walked over to Henry Preston, whispering a few words that we couldn’t hear.
But after Silas finished speaking, Henry’s expression subtly changed. He looked down, "Whatever it is, we’ll talk about it in Country D."
Things on that end must have already been arranged. Once Azure arrives there, everything will be set in stone. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Come on, take a look first!" Silas was anxious.
After speaking, he glanced at me, eyes full of guilt.
I roughly guessed why he hurried over. Originally, he didn’t plan to see Azure off and wasn’t supposed to appear here. But he likely saw the messages I sent about exposing Azure, which is why he rushed over.
"Silas, what do you want Mr. Preston to see?" Azure noticed something was wrong; the smile vanished from her face, and she asked apprehensively.
"Nothing, you’re about to board." Henry Preston still refused Silas, instead comforting Azure.
Azure cautiously nodded and then quietly said, "Then let’s not stay here, let’s go quickly."
"Okay," Henry Preston responded.
Seeing them about to leave, Silas couldn’t hold back any longer than me. He rushed over to block Henry Preston, then quickly took out his phone and played an audio clip.
"No, Miss Hathaway, I don’t wish for your death!"
"...I think I’ve fallen for Mr. Preston!"
"Miss Hathaway, please don’t tell Mr. Preston, okay?"
"It’s not that Henry planted the seed of materialism in my heart, it’s you."
The conversation between Azure and me came through clearly from the phone. It was when I was hospitalized after being kidnapped, and she came to see me, admitting that she deliberately pretended not to hear my cries for help and even tried to divert Henry and the others’ attention.
Upon hearing this, Azure’s steps halted, her face turning pale as panic filled her eyes. She rushed forward, trying to snatch Silas’s phone.
I stopped her, "Don’t rush, you haven’t heard it all."
Henry Preston’s previously indifferent expression became unprecedentedly grim and ugly as the audio continued to play. At that time, when he brought people to find me, he genuinely worried about me, but he surely never imagined that Azure could be so vicious, not only wanting me dead but also trying to prevent him from discovering it.
His hand slowly clenched, the veins on the back of his hand protruding clearly, revealing the current depth of his anger.
"Let him continue playing it!" Henry Preston spoke, his voice cold with a hint of dangerous tension, showing a significant change in attitude.
Elvie Lawson and Walter Vaughn realized what was happening and, not expecting their phone to be intercepted and knowing I had a backup, rushed over to snatch it back.
Ivan Underwood blocked them, preventing them from getting close to Silas Lockwood.
The audio continued to play, and the second segment was about the time when I was hospitalized in Xylos for a threatened miscarriage, Azure pushed me off the bed.
"Miss Hathaway, Mr. Preston loves me... I won’t let you ruin my happiness... Are you trying to protect the fetus?"
"Your beautiful wish to keep the child as a bargaining chip has shattered!"
This line, I guess, even the most skilled actors couldn’t portray the smug cruelty and malice in it. The crisp voice floated lightly, as if stating something beautiful.
Hearing this line again, my heart couldn’t help but ache.
Crystal Dawson always knew I had some recordings of Azure, but she didn’t know they were so detailed. She was so angry that she couldn’t hold back anymore and yelled that she wanted to rush up and kill Azure.
Silas Lockwood looked extremely grim. He used to genuinely view Azure as a good girl, but now his worldview might be shattered.
He stopped Crystal Dawson, "Wife, don’t get agitated, be careful with the child."
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have stopped her.
"Azure, do you still have the nerve to keep pretending? You’re the one who wanted to kill Zoe, and also killed her child!" Leah Lane yelled angrily.
"Henry Preston, is this your true love? Are you blind?!" Tiana O’Connell pointed at Henry Preston and scolded.
Henry Preston offered no rebuttal and no longer looked at Azure, instead, he looked at me.
Jason Forrest was stunned, still immersed in the audio, unable to react. He looked at the already distraught Azure, couldn’t believe it, and asked, "Azure, did you really do those things?"
"No, no!" Azure tried to argue, "The recording is fake, I never said those things, let alone did them. I’m going to call the police, I’m going to prove my innocence!"
"Then go ahead and call the police. I’ve already sent everything out, you can try suing me." I coldly reminded her.
"No!!" Azure was scared silly upon hearing this. She immediately rushed to Henry Preston’s side, crying like raindrops on pear blossoms, "Mr. Preston, you don’t believe me either? Give me some time to prove my innocence. Before that, you can’t let the audio get out! Help me, stop it!"
Henry Preston lowered his head, looking at Azure grabbing his hand, then at her crying face, finally prying her hands away forcefully.
Azure still wanted to plead with him, but the next second, a hand suddenly gripped her neck!
The anger in Henry Preston’s eyes was sky-high, as if he was about to kill Azure the next second.
Elvie Lawson and Walter Vaughn were frightened, rushed over to grab Henry Preston’s hand, and arduously rescued their daughter from that hand.
"Henry, Henry..." Azure was nearly suffocating, and after catching a breath, she still looked at Henry Preston unwillingly.
She seemed unable to believe that Henry Preston wanted to strangle her; just a few minutes ago, he was still defending her!
"Mr. Preston!" Laura Lawson was already crying, kneeling on the ground to plead, "It’s all because my Azure was confused for a moment, it wasn’t her intention. Didn’t you like her a lot before? You should know what kind of person she is! Please forgive her!"
"Laura, your daughter wanted to kill me; she’s the murderer who killed the child in my womb. Why haven’t you slapped her a few times and taught her a good lesson? Instead, you’re begging on the basis that Henry Preston had some feelings for her? After stealing my phone, did your family feel at ease?" I found it truly laughable.
Elvie Lawson and Walter Vaughn’s worldviews may seem correct, but they never corrected their daughter in action and even helped her do some wrong things.
Both in the past life and this life, they ultimately always protected Azure.
Laura Lawson stared at me blankly, suddenly realizing I am the one she should have pleaded with. She pulled Azure over to me, grabbed my hand to hit Azure, "Miss Hathaway, it’s all my Azure’s fault, hit her! She has a heart condition, how could her father and I dare not to indulge her? We were just afraid she couldn’t bear the stimulation. Now that it’s come to this, I can’t make up for it, just kill her!"
Walter Vaughn couldn’t take it anymore. He rushed over to stop Laura and then turned his head to question Henry Preston, "Mr. Preston, weren’t you the one who first provoked my daughter? Since you had a wife back then, why did you do that?"
Azure stood in front of me with a lifeless face, her eyes full of dark hatred as she looked at me. Her prettiest mask was torn apart by me, and now she wished she could tear me apart too, right?
"Enough!" Henry Preston lost his patience. His expression turned grim, and because of his extreme anger, his eyes were bloodshot, emitting a terrifying aura, "Azure, if it weren’t for Winter Tate’s heart, we would’ve had a clean break when I sent you abroad to study. You should be very clear why I kept helping you and defending you, and yet you dared to harm my child?!"
Azure of course knew these things, but she always resisted and would never publicly admit it. Otherwise, the rumors that Henry Preston favored her would turn into him merely treating her as a substitute, how ridiculous.
I guess she must have seen the media reports about me. I, the nominal but non-existent ex-wife, was either sympathized with or ridiculed behind my back from marriage to divorce.
Elvie Lawson and Walter Vaughn were hearing these things for the first time and didn’t understand what it meant at all.
