After work, start to speedrun the other world-Chapter 399 - 148: Abandoning All the Blessings Bestowed by the Gods_2
The Witch of Death fell silent, glancing at the ever-smiling Ahtal before bowing her head as she began to flip through the magic book in her hands.
It was as if she tacitly agreed to their discussion in her presence.
"Alright, you can speak freely now," Xi Mu chuckled lightly, picking up the teapot from the table and pouring two cups of tea for Eden and Adam.
"There are very few in this world who would dare to spy directly on the Witch of Death, unless they are weary of living,"
"..." The Witch of Death ignored Ahtal’s flattery, quietly observing the magic book, her slender fingers occasionally turning a page, seemingly indifferent to everything,
but she had silently activated a passive ability, shielding their conversation from prying eyes. Her power could not only block the effects of time reversal but also enabled counter-surveillance. As long as she intended to maintain this passive, anyone trying to spy on them using magic or abilities would trigger a pre-set counterattack of hers.
Of course, she didn’t always maintain a state of counter-surveillance, activating it only when she deemed necessary.
For instance, she would activate it when taking a bath.
"There is still an hour until the duel," Xi Mu leaned back in his chair, maintaining a gentle smile, "I hope it won’t take too much time."
"Thank you." Adam expressed his gratitude and then turned to inquire of Eden, "Holy lady, why did you banish me and Eve initially?"
"It was a decision from your past lives," Eden lowered her eyelids, masking the emotions within, "In your past lives, you hoped that after I nurtured you into humans, you would be free to grow outside the embrace of the deities."
"A decision from our past lives?" Adam was momentarily stunned, always believing that he and Eve were the first humans, and therefore, they should not have such a thing as a past life.
Eden shook her head and said softly, "Seventy thousand years ago, there were humans favored by the God of Omniscience, who had the right to make wishes directly to the god if they could climb the Tree of Omniscience."
"Humans from seventy thousand years ago?" The Witch of Death put down her book, intrigued by what Eden had said. The world’s recorded history of humanity only spanned fifty thousand years; there was no record of anything more ancient. Even the Time Witch’s probes into the past could only reach as far back as fifty thousand years; the more distant past was obstructed by the God of Omniscience.
And now, she was learning about a time beyond fifty thousand years ago from Eden, which piqued her interest, rendering the book in her hands tasteless.
"History is not merely fifty thousand years long," Eden nodded slightly, exchanging glances with Ahtal, "Seventy thousand years ago, the God of Omniscience descended and endowed humanity with every blessing and grace, relieving them from worrying about food, shelter, and creation, and granted them the power to experience everything in dreams."
"They perished, didn’t they," the Witch of Death stated calmly, having realized the outcome upon hearing Eden’s description.
"The thought process of the God of Omniscience is unlike that of humans. He does not bestow hardships and trials upon humanity but satisfies their requests incessantly," Eden spoke softly, "Humans no longer needed cooperation for survival, and having gained eternal life, lost the desire to procreate. Everyone became a solitary devotee, praying only to the God of Omniscience and utterly indifferent to others, to the point of not even wanting to speak a word."
Adam inquired, "Is that... a problem?"
He felt it was undesirable, but if the God of Omniscience could satisfy all of humanity’s needs, then it might be considered a form of happiness.
"For the individual it is happiness, but for humanity as a collective, it’s catastrophic," Eden gently shook her head, "Because there was no need for communication, humans stopped exchanging ideas, and the progression of civilization stagnated."
"Has no one wished to the God of Omniscience to have humanity regain the ability to communicate?" Adam asked, immediately realizing such a wish would be ineffective.
"Is it because most people were unwilling to interact with others?"
"..." Eden nodded slightly, continuing, "Apart from a few who cared about human civilization, everyone plunged into their own worlds, and human civilization was fundamentally obliterated."
She cast her gaze toward Adam.
"Your and Eve’s thoughts were different, so you wished to the God of Omniscience, renouncing all divine blessings thus far, and wishing for Him to never grace you, Eve, and your descendants with His blessings."
"So, we voluntarily left the embrace of the deity?" Adam did not expect the truth to be such.
He covered his forehead with one hand.
"Is the suffering of the humans in this world all because Eve and I wished to the God of Omniscience... not to bless us?"
Eden did not reply.
She is the embodiment of the Tree of Omniscience. From birth, she followed the commands of the God of Omniscience to understand humanity, to think and witness from a human perspective in place of the deity.
Then she saw with her own eyes how human civilization, step by step, walked towards self-destruction amidst endless wishes.
She could not stop the process, not until Adam and Eve made their wish to the God, abandoning all blessings thus far, allowing human civilization to break free from the embrace of the deity and to start afresh in this world.
From just a few humans, to spreading across the land, they created a civilization of unprecedented prosperity.
