Chapter 127: 127-He Caught Me In A Lie

Iris:

He instantly shut up and looked away, his hand rubbing over his mouth as if he had no clue how the words had slipped out.

I could tell he realized what he had said from the way his expression changed. πšπ—Ώπ—²πžπ°πšŽπ•“π§πš˜π˜ƒπ—²π₯.πœπš˜π•ž

He straightened his back and cleared his throat.

"You know what," he muttered, avoiding my gaze, "Lord Ronald is hosting a dinner tonight for all of us. I will go get ready. Make sure the kids are ready. And so are you and Luca."

He did not look at me once. After he walked off quickly, I was left behind in silence.

I stood there, confused, trying to understand why he would say something like that.

First of all, why would his drunk mind think it was me?

Second, he was not that drunk when he had walked away from me to follow Lara.

Maybe they drank together, but the way he phrased things did not sound like they had enjoyed a fun night.

Instead, he sounded confused about how he ended up with her.

Alarm bells started to ring in my head.

I turned toward the room, still thinking about Kash and what he had said.

But once I entered, I saw Luca already lying on the bed with his arms behind his head.

"So," he teased, his voice full of playfulness, "we are going to enjoy time in bed." He was referring to what I had told Kash earlier.

I rolled my eyes at him and gave him a blunt look.

"We are not sharing the bed," I said harshly.

He sat up, chuckling quietly, while I pulled out clothes to get ready for the dinner.

"I thought my wife would get me ready," he continued, still trying to be a nuisance.

"Well, Alpha Luca, you can’t get ready yourself?" I replied, watching the playfulness fade from his face.

"You are still upset about it?" he asked, getting out of the bed and walking over to his bags.

"I don’t want to talk about it," I said, refusing to let him affect my mental state any more than he already had.

"I’m serious," he insisted. "I know it seemed like I used you, but I only wanted to have a pack ready for you. If you wanted to leave him, you would have somewhere to go." He stood right beside me as he spoke.

"Luca," I said, turning to him with a quizzical and judgmental look, "do you seriously think I believe you? Do you think I would run away and then go to a pack that Kash already knows about?"

As soon as I said it, Luca zoned out for a moment before nodding.

"Oops. I never thought about that," he replied, and I knew he was lying.

Everyone thought they could use me, then apologize, and everything would be fixed. It wasn’t that easy.

"Anyway, get ready for the dinner," I said without looking at him.

The rest of the evening, we got dressed quietly. I went to the children’s room, which was right next to mine.

They had two queen beds near the windows, one on each side of the room.

So it was decided that I would sleep with them. I helped them get ready, then returned to my own room.

I wore a light blue dress and kept my hair straight, letting a few strands fall around my face.

The dinner was held in a large hall on the first floor of the mansion.

It was spacious, with tall chandeliers and golden curtains beside the windows.

The tables were arranged in a long row, covered in white cloth and decorated with bowls that held candles.

The smell of roasted meat and fresh herbs filled the air.

Many alphas from the South packs were already seated, and several of them kept glancing at our side with clear curiosity.

Scarlett sat with Amy and Colin to my right.

My mother sat across from me, speaking with one of the lunas as if she had lived here for years.

She already looked too comfortable.

Luca settled beside me on the left. Leaning back in his chair, he studied the plates of food placed in front of us.

Kash sat across from Luca between Lara and Lord Ronald.

Lara had her arm linked through his, smiling in a proud way.

She laughed a little too loudly whenever someone spoke to her, almost as if she wanted everyone in the hall to look at her and see who she was sitting with.

Omegas walked around placing dishes of grilled vegetables, seasoned rice, and plates of fish with lemon slices.

People started talking more about Lara and Kash.

Amy reached for the bread basket and almost dropped it, but Kash helped her before she could.

Colin watched the dancers who waited quietly in the back of the hall for their performance.

It was clear this dinner was not for me or my children. It was for Kash.

Lord Ronald kept giving me mixed looks. Sometimes he looked annoyed with me.

Other times he looked amused, almost like he wanted to ask if I was seeing how happy Kash and Lara looked.

"So," Ronald finally began. This time he spoke directly to me. "When are you two getting married?" Then he turned to Luca.

The rest of the question was clearly for him.

My spine stiffened. I had forgotten to tell my mother or Luca what I had told Kash earlier when demanding the rejection.

Even the kids stopped eating. They looked at me, then at Luca, and then glanced at their father.

My mother narrowed her eyes at me, waiting to hear what I would say.

But it was Kash I looked at. He was no longer speaking to Lara.

He stared straight at me from across the table.

His elbows rested on the edge of it, and his fingers tapped once against his plate.

His face told me nothing, but his eyes said enough.

My throat tightened. I could not speak.

Luca spoke instead.

"It depends on Iris," he said calmly. "We have not talked about the wedding yet, but it will be sometime soon."

I suddenly coughed.

Kash reached for a glass of water and pushed it toward me.

His movement was slow, steady, and very controlled.

His face stayed blank, but the look in his eyes was a sharp reminder that he had caught me lying earlier.

My phone vibrated under the table. While I tried to swallow the water, I looked at the screen.

It was a message from Kash.

Kash: You are such a liar.

I almost spit the water out.
