Chapter 152: 152-Stepping Back

Iris:

"Come here, I’ll get you ready for the stroll," I said to her softly, and then I forced a smile on my lips.

I realized quickly that I was a mother. I was not supposed to act as if I was hurt.

Amy happily jumped off her father’s lap and rushed toward me.

She ran toward me, and I hugged her.

"You should wait outside. I will get both of them ready and send them out to you," I told Kash, carrying Amy away from him to the bed.

"But I do not want to go," Colin continued to resist.

The minute Kash left the room, I turned to my child, giving him a smile of appreciation for taking a stand for his mother, showing that they did not have to fight a war for me.

"Listen, I want you to go with her and take care of your sister," I told Colin, gently cupping his face in my hand.

"Besides, that is your father. He will never let any harm come to either of you." I convinced my son, and then I prepared them, sending them out to the garden where Lara and Kash were having fun.

Well, I said it because she kept making him carry her so she could grab an apple or anything from the trees for her.

The sight was amusing, but it served me right. If my own mother did not feel bad for me, how did I expect a stranger like Kash to feel for me?

"Oh, they look so good!" The minute Lara saw my children, she wriggled out of Kash’s arms and rushed toward them.

Amy shook a hand with her, but Colin just stepped past her to Kash. And then right in front of me, they walked away.

"You should also think about yourself," Luca remarked from behind me, and I realized I had been staring too hard into the empty space where they had gone.

"I know it is harsh of me to say this, but can you please return to your normal self? I cannot see you like this, okay?" he said, tilting his head at me.

"It is alright, Luca. This is my fate," I replied, and as I began to step back to the room, he held my hand to stop me. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

"This is not what your fate will look like. You will get to decide your fate. I will make sure your mother is punished for what she did to you. Do you hear me?" Luca’s words struck me right in the heart as his fingers tightened around my wrist before he let go.

"What do you mean?" I asked him.

"You will see what I mean. You will see very soon. Her time is over. She has tortured you and your children enough," Luca hissed before he stepped back and kept glaring at me, and then finally he turned around and walked out of the room.

I hugged myself before covering my face with my hands. Was he really going to fix everything?

I wanted to believe in him, but I was afraid he would get himself in trouble by going against my mother. She could be very dangerous.

And then the wait was over. Kash took my kids out for a two-hour walk with Lara. When they returned, I noticed they were holding ice cream cones.

"Mommy, it was amazing. We had so much fun," Amy barged in happily, licking her ice cream. She even offered me some, but I waved her off with a smile.

And then came Colin. I did not know why he was putting himself through so much stress, but he looked guilty for enjoying the time, and I could tell he enjoyed it because he had a smile on his lips until he saw me.

"It was not that fun, though," he uttered, licking the ice cream but keeping his eyes to the side.

"Come here," I told him, holding my hand up for him and bringing him to me.

Once he was in front of me, I gently touched his cheek.

"You do not need to hide it. I am glad you had fun. I would have been more concerned if you came back upset."

The minute I said that, Colin started to flash a smile.

"Really? Then Mommy, I did have fun. That bad aunt was barely even speaking, but I could tell she was upset because Daddy was spending time with us and not responding to her."

They say kids are honest, and my son had shared more than what Kash must have thought he would.

"Yeah, and she is so weird," Amy commented.

The two finished their ice creams, and then we had dinner in our room. I did not know where Luca was.

I texted him and asked if he was fine because I was worried for him. Thankfully, he was fine.

He responded that he just wanted to be alone. That was why he could not come, but I knew.

Every time he was in front of me, he probably thought I was uncomfortable because of the memory of that night.

And then the night arrived. I went into Luca’s room and noticed that he was already asleep.

But I could not sleep. I had been anxiously rubbing my palms together, wondering if the plan was still on.

And then I got news when I received a text from Kash.

Bitter Ex: Headed out to get the water.

That was all he wrote.

I walked back to the kid’s room and dismissed the nanny again.

I reached the door and then the window, and stared outside. I could see the front yard and the parking lot.

I watched Lara and Kash leave. The two walked together and then got in Lara’s car.

The night grew even more difficult for me. I started to anxiously pace around.

Every second of that night felt like walking on fire. Each step I took around the room burned my feet.

If only I had an active lycan. That was what I wished for. I should have been the one to go and fetch the cure for my son.

But I was just a useless piece of shit, the one who needed someone to defend her.

Always the damsel in distress, and I hated that word so much.

When I could not wait any longer, I sat on the couch and stared outside the window.

I wanted to be the first one to find out when they returned. However, I fell asleep.
