Chapter 173: 173-His Name Gives Me Goosebumps

Iris:

"Is it because she is too traumatized?" I asked. "I do not think her trauma will affect my children. They will be fine. In fact, children can help someone heal better than anything else," I told my father, smiling at him for taking his role as a grandfather so seriously.

It did not change the fact that he still looked unconvinced.

"Father, what is it?" I insisted again.

"That whole situation where your mother blackmailed you," he began. "Scarlett was involved in it. She was part of the plan. She knew what she was agreeing to when she offered herself. Your mother paid her a large amount of money for it."

With every word, my chest tightened. I could not tell if I was hearing him correctly or if my mind was failing me.

"So it was all true?" I asked quietly.

"The call and everything else," my father explained. "It was meant to make you emotional."

I stared into the distance. All this time, I had been worried about her.

This was the truth.

"Now go and rest," he added. "You have important things ahead."

He stood up, leaned in, and kissed my head before walking away.

I held the piece of paper tightly in my hand. Then my eyes landed on a small box resting to the side. My father must have left it behind when he stood up. I reached for it, and the moment I opened it, I nearly gasped.

It was the cure.

My father had returned it to me. Now it was up to me to decide what to do with it.

Honestly, I thought I would sleep peacefully that night, but I was plagued by nightmares.

One of them showed my brother chasing me through the mansion with a bloody knife in his hand.

When I woke up gasping for air, I realized it was not just a nightmare. It was a memory.

I had always believed his sickness made him act that way, but my father was an intelligent man.

He must have seen something to warn me against that belief.

I got up quickly and changed into a pink gown. I was expected to remain elegantly dressed for the next few days so that my presence would leave a stronger impression on everyone.

When I stepped outside my room, my children were already waiting near the door. I hugged them, then lifted them both into my arms and carried them downstairs for breakfast.

The moment I entered the dining area, I noticed something was wrong. Everyone at the table looked uneasy, including my right-hand man and my father’s right-hand man.

I stepped toward my chair and sat down. After settling into my seat, I watched my children sitting across from me, studying them with one eyebrow raised.

"Is everything okay?" I questioned.

Of course, I had lived in this place before, and it had always been very scary. One day they would be happy with me. The next day, they would have issues with me. So every time I noticed the same look of concern on their faces, I thought they had probably decided to make me suffer.

"It is about the werewolves," my father started.

My mother sat silently, watching my face with anticipation. She was probably no longer interested in anything else except Wilson waking up. I had given it some thought overnight. I knew what I had to do. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

"What happened? Are they asking for something?" I questioned, thinking it might be the werewolves of the East.

But my father shook his head and shared a brief glance with James, which already felt like bad news.

"It is about Alpha King Kash," my father told me, and the words hit me like a silver bullet.

I froze, my fingers barely holding onto the spoon in my hand.

"What about him?" I replied, setting the spoon down and pushing the bowl of cereal away.

"He has been demanding to come into the East with his warriors," my father explained, making my heart slow at first and then race.

"Oh great. What does that power-hungry man want now?" my mother exclaimed loudly, her words tensing everyone at the table.

"He is saying he wants to speak with us," my father explained, keeping his eyes on Colin and Amy as he gave them smiles, which they returned.

"Tell Kash he should mind his packs and territories," James remarked, watching his son Luca quietly eat his food.

The dynamics had changed ever since we returned. The weakness I had felt outside my territory was gone. I was the one in command now.

"Daddy?" my daughter asked, picking up on the name.

"Mommy, is Daddy coming over?" Colin questioned, his hands ready to clap as he showed his excitement.

"Why would your crazy father come here?" my mother snapped, slapping her hand on the table and directing her anger at my children because she could no longer scold me.

My children’s faces immediately fell. The downward curve of my daughter’s lips showed how close she was to bursting into tears at any moment.

"Mother, do not take your anger out on my innocent children," I warned her in a sharp tone.

"Instead of—" my mother was speaking when my father pointed at her.

"Iris is right. You should not speak to a young prince, or young princes, in that tone, especially when there are so many people around. It is not like they said something that needed such a harsh reaction from you," my father told her calmly, though I could tell my mother did not like it.

If only my father had taken care of these things beforehand, they would not have escalated so much.

"What are we going to do about Alpha King Kash now?" Luca finally asked, raising his head from his plate and rubbing his hands together to clean them.

"Tell him there is no need for any meetings for now, and if he still does not listen," I paused as I tapped my fingers on the table, then threatened him with a war.

I finished, and at this point nobody objected because everyone agreed.

Once Kash lays his eyes on something, he wants it no matter what, and I would not let him take my territory from me.
