Chapter 271: 271-In HindSight

Kash:

Yesterday came and passed like a storm.

When I was told that the mansion was under attack, the first thing that came to my mind was my family, the people I loved.

Soon after, I received the news that everyone was safe.

When I reached home, I found out that Zoe had actually taken Iris and my children to a safe place, especially Iris.

That was when I realized that the real targets had been my wife and my children.

After that, everything was chaos.

My mother kept questioning me again and again, asking why anyone would send so many men after an omega.

At the same time, she was angry that Iris’s mother had been targeting Amy and Colin.

At least that told me one thing. My mother did care about my children.

Then there was Lara.

She had her own version of events and seemed concerned only about herself.

Of course, she kept reminding me that she was not well.

When I arrived home and saw that Iris was still asleep, I went back toward the living room.

My eyes fell on Lara.

She was sitting on the couch, having her blood pressure checked by a nurse who had been called to the house.

"It was slightly high, but it is under control. Please take care of her," the nurse told me.

"Thankfully, considering how much she had been dragged around, her injuries were not severe."

The nurse warned me that Lara’s condition could still worsen.

As soon as the nurse left, Lara began looking at me with a pout.

"Thankfully, I survived. Our baby survived too," she said, stepping toward me.

I immediately took a step back.

"Yes, thankfully. You should rest now," I said coldly, tapping her shoulder as if to comfort her.

That was all the support I could offer her.

After that, I spent some time with my children, and later Iris joined us.

The same tension continued into the morning.

Everyone was worried about why this had happened, and now I had finally reached the mansion to collect the report.

"There are no signs of those men in the data," my gamma warrior told me, showing me the file.

There were six bodies found. One was outside, and five were inside.

"Alright. Did you trace the phone number I asked you about? I told you to retrieve yesterday’s data," I asked.

He began looking around, as if avoiding eye contact.

"Actually, yes," he replied.

The moment he said that, I straightened.

"It is all in this file."

He handed it to me, and I took it in my hands and began to read.

What was written in the report, in very simple words, made my face tighten.

"Clear out the mansion. My family will move back in within a few hours," I told the warrior before storming out of the mansion, heading back toward the road and the guest house.

As I approached, I saw Iris standing alone.

I gestured for her to come toward the bench.

We could not have this conversation inside. It had become too crowded.

At my single signal, Iris quickly walked toward me.

As soon as we sat on the bench, I handed her the file.

"What is this?" Iris asked, her voice trembling as she opened it.

"Luca made a call the day before yesterday. It went toward the East. It was the same number your mother had been calling from repeatedly," As I spoke, I saw Iris’s eyes widen.

"There is also a text," I added, pointing to it with my finger.

In the message, it clearly said from Luca’s side, I am ready.

That was all.

Iris shut the file and placed it on her lap.

She rested her elbows on her knees and buried her face in her hands.

"I cannot even imagine that Luca could do something like this," she said, lifting her face and looking at me.

"Mama, is it true that Grandmother sent people again to take us away?" Amy asked/

Their attention had shifted back to us.

Both of them walked toward us.

Walkin knew that no matter how hard he tried, he would not be able to distract them.

They were my children. They were observant by nature.

"Kids, we are working on solving this. There is no need to panic," I said quickly, stopping Iris from answering.

I gently cupped both of their chins.

But I noticed that Amy still wanted to say something.

"Will they lock us in the dungeon again? They locked us in the basement last time, Daddy," Amy said, complaining softly.

Guilt crossed Iris’s face, as if it had been her fault.

She was completely innocent.

"Nothing like that will happen this time," I assured my daughter, giving her a reassuring look.

"Yes, do not worry," I added.

"And even if they lock us up again, Uncle Luca will come and give us chocolates like last time," Colin said to Amy.

The moment he said that, my head snapped toward Iris.

She looked at me in shock.

"But Uncle Luca was locked up with you, remember?" Iris reminded them, repeating the same detail she had told me. Something that she had learned from Luca himself.

"No, Mama. Grandpa was locked up alone too. We could see Grandpa sometimes when they opened the door," Colin said.

"But when Grandpa passed out, the door to Luca’s room would open. Luca would go outside, then come back with chocolates for us. He told us not to tell anyone. That is all," Colin finished.

Suddenly, everything started to feel confusing.

I watched Iris’s face as she stared into the distance, as if she had just been hit with the biggest shock of her life.

"Wait. Did you ever see Luca tied in chains?" Iris asked, pulling both children closer to her.

"No, Mama. Uncle Luca told us to tell everyone that he was locked up here, but he was not actually locked," Amy explained.

Then, all of a sudden, her attention shifted to a plane flying above.

"Colin, look. Let’s wave at the plane," Amy said, running off with him as they began shouting excitedly.

But they had already given us something far more important.
