Alpha's Lost Luna Returns With His Twins-Chapter 288-Slow And Steady
Lara:
I had ignored my father’s calls all day. Even yesterday, when he called, I pretended I could not hear his voice and disconnected.
Until the children were found, I knew I would not have peace.
Early in the morning, Lady Vivian texted me that there had been a strange argument between Iris and Kash. It was not explosive, but it was deeply uncomfortable.
She even said that by evening, the situation would worsen to the point that if she asked Kash to take me to dinner, he would agree.
That meant I had to speak to my father before he called Kash and asked why I was ignoring him.
"Hello, Dad," I answered when he picked up, acting as if nothing was wrong.
"Why have you not been answering my calls since yesterday?" he demanded almost immediately.
"I was not feeling well," I replied, getting out of bed and standing in front of the mirror.
I was not bad-looking. I had been pampered since childhood, always told that no one was more beautiful than me.
Then Iris came into our lives, and I heard people praise her beauty again and again. From that day on, my hatred for her only grew.
"Did you just wake up?" my father asked, disbelief clear in his voice.
"Yes. I am pregnant, so I get tired. That is why I have been sleeping more," I responded defensively.
"Lara, do you even know what is happening around you?" His voice turned harsh.
I knew this was coming. That was why I had avoided his calls. I could not handle another person shouting at me.
I was hormonal. I wanted gentleness, someone to care for me and speak kindly. At least Kash had been doing that lately.
"What happened? Why are you speaking to me like this?" I asked.
"Lara, I will ask you once more. You did not do anything to those children, did you?"
The moment he said that, my jaw tightened.
I hated when he defended those children. He always told me that even if I disliked them, he could never hate them.
But at the end of the day, I was his blood.
"Why would you think I did something? Do I seem that evil to you?" I shot back, letting my emotions take over.
"Do not pretend you do not know why I am suspicious," he replied and tears filled my eyes.
"What does that mean?" I asked, my voice shaking.
"Do not make me repeat it. I do not want to say it again," he warned.
I closed my eyes and swallowed.
"No. Tell me. What are you referring to?" I snapped, hoping he would soften.
He did not.
"You want me to remind you?" His voice grew heavier.
I swallowed again.
"I am telling you, Lara, if you had anything to do with those children going missing, you will never hear from me again," he hissed.
Before I could respond, he added, "And the fact that you did not even tell me you are pregnant. You let it slip out just now. It shows how little you care about other people’s emotions."
As he said that, I realized I had accidentally told him about the pregnancy.
"It is not like that. I was waiting for the right moment," I rushed to explain.
I stepped away from the mirror because my reflection was distracting me.
"What was the right time, Lara? Tell me," my father asked, pain evident in his voice.
I knew he would be deeply upset when he found out. I hated hiding things from him.
"Actually, the doctor told me that because of the complications in my previous pregnancy, I am at very high risk right now. I wanted a few months to pass before I told you the good news. God forbid something went wrong and I lost the baby, I did not want you grieving over your grandchild," I explained, believing it was a reasonable excuse.
I thought he would understand and stop questioning me.
However, his scoff made it clear it would not be that easy.
"Complications in the previous pregnancy? Do you mean the time you tried to poison yourself so the children would die?" my father asked coldly.
It was his way of reminding me that he was still angry about my past actions.
"Thank you for reminding me," I snapped. "At least that proves how stubborn they are. Even after so much poison, they survived."
Before I could stop myself, the words had already escaped.
"I cannot believe you have not learned from your mistakes. I cannot believe you are not remorseful," my father began.
I pressed my forehead in frustration for speaking so carelessly.
I knew my father was emotional. I should have been more careful.
As I started to speak again, I noticed him breathing heavily.
"How long are you going to hold on to this?" I muttered under my breath.
There was only silence from his side.
"I will speak to you after I talk to the warriors. They are calling me," he said before hanging up.
As soon as the call ended, I began to pray that they would tell him the babies had died and that there were no witnesses, nothing to trace back.
At the same time, I remembered exactly why my father was so upset.
Just then, a notification popped up on my screen, and my entire mood shifted.
"Lara, if you are up, make sure you have breakfast and take your medicines. Do not delay them," he said in a voice message.
Hearing that changed my mood completely.
A smile appeared on my face.
What made me happiest was that the comfort my father should have given me was coming from Kash instead. He was the one cheering me up.
"Thank you. I just woke up," I replied to Kash in a voice message.
Then I sent him another one.
"I do not know why my heart feels so restless today."
I pressed send and watched him listen to it almost immediately. His reply came quickly, and it brought a smile to my lips.
"Why? Are you okay? Maybe it is because you are staying inside the house where you were attacked before," he said, referring to Iris’s family and that incident.
"You know what? When I come home, I will take you out for a walk."
I listened to his message again, and a wide smile spread across my face.
