Alpha's Secret Bride-Chapter 70: Unraveling Lunara’s Deceit
Brandon sat beside his mate’s healing bed and rested his head firmly on her forehead. A gesture his heart chooses each time he desires to be one wolf and soul with her. His hand was on her waist as he felt her hot breath fanning his face. He kissed her lips, wishing she was awake to return his kiss, look into his eyes and tell him everything that happened.
She was quite aggressive last night and spoke in tear-filled gibberish as if she had lost her senses completely. The royal healer, one of the best healers in the territory, sedated her immediately. He needed to know what happened and he couldn’t wait for her to wake up and tell him everything. He just wished she wouldn’t forget when she woke up.
"Brandon, it’s okay. She will be fine," Elara said as soon as she came into the healing chamber. "The healer said she had a mild case of psychotic depression. Her mind could not perceive and organize information about the world she was in. She thinks she is in another packlands, but everything will be fine once she wakes up," Elara said and sat beside her.
"Brandon, what happened?" She asked again after about ten minutes of silence. "Why are you acting as if she is dead? She is not dead, she is sleeping! She will be fine. I’m wondering what triggered the depression. She was okay when I left both of you here last night."
"Until the King sent for her," he said with a low voice.
"Oh my moon goddess! What did he tell her?" Elara asked anxiously.
"I don’t know."
"Why did you allow her to meet him alone?"
"He wants to have an exclusive talk with her."
"Brandon, you know your father very well. He is very manipulative! He must have indirectly passed a piece of information to her."
"My mate knows everything now. Nothing about me is strong enough to give her psychotic depression."
"Brandon, you need to shower and eat your breakfast. It’s a few minutes past nine already. Please, go, I’ll look after her."
"I have sent for her maids. I’ll leave here as soon as they arrive."
"You don’t trust me again? Oh my moon goddess."
"I’m sorry, Elara; if I had been prudent enough last night, she wouldn’t have seen or heard whatever put her in this condition. I don’t trust even the healers here. I’m transferring her to De Brandon Eternal Moonlight Recovery Den tomorrow morning. I trust Healer Ben.
"Yeah...you... are right."
One of the guards led Naomi and Paige to the healing chamber. Their eyes were red, which showed they had been crying. He wondered who told them what happened.
"Moonrise, alpha," they greeted with their heads bowed.
"Keep your eyes on her," he said, and began to walk towards the door. Elara walked quietly beside him and was unhappy he didn’t trust her again.
He took the long and wide hallway that led to the central control chamber in the royal den.
"Where are you going?" Elara asked.
"I need to view the footage ,the crystal eye recorded last night at all angles and all chambers.
"Brandon, you need to eat first."
"I don’t need food right now; I need answers," he said, and continued walking down the hallway. She had no choice but to follow him. Leo and Max, his most trusted guards, walked swiftly behind them.
He sat on one of the chairs in the control chamber and quickly entered his ID and password and logged into the server. He opened the camera that was in the King’s Presence chamber. Leo and Max left the chamber as soon as the footage began to play. He watched everything that happened in the King’s Presence Chamber. His father did not say or do anything disastrous to her. He talked to her with a lot of respect and he loved that even though he knew he was up to something.
"I don’t trust my father, Brandon. Why did he tell her to use another chamber? The only chamber in this royal den that has a faulty intercom and no crystal eye!"
"He gave his reason."
"It is silly! She is your mate for moon goddess sake."
He ignored her and clicked on the crystal eye that was in the hallway that led to the chamber where his mate was sent to. He selected a likely time and he saw her and a maid heading to the chamber. He needed to know why his mate came back to the King’s chamber behaving abnormally.
"I need to check Luna’s crystal eye."
"Mother didn’t even respond to her greetings when she saw her in the King’s Presence Chamber. She hates her, obviously. I don’t think your mate went to her chamber last night. Check your sibling’s chamber," Elara said. He hesitated because he went there last night and he didn’t want her to think something had happened between them. Elara frowned when she figured it out immediately and fixed her eyes on him.
"Brandon!"
"She invited me as usual."
"Again? You are compelling me to believe what father and mother are saying."
"That she is destined for me?"
"Yes!"
"Come off it, Elara!"
"Oh...your mate knew you went to her chamber last night and maybe confronted Lunara," Elara said. His senses began to move in that direction. He continued trying to see what happened in Lunara’s chamber when he left but his access was denied.
"Here!" Elara said. "This is where the problem lies. Brandon, I trust you, but at this point, I don’t trust you anymore. I think something serious is going on between you and Lunara and your mate found out."
"Nothing is going on."
"Lunara invites you to her chamber each time you visit the royal den and you never say no. Is she blackmailing you?"
"No"
"What is going on?"
"I come to your chamber every night without an invitation. You come to mine too."
"I’m your sibling!"
"Do not forget she is my sibling too."
"A she-wolf sibling that wants to mate her he-wolf sibling? Brandon, are you lying with her?"
"No!"
"I don’t believe you," Elara said, and he ignored her because he had just realized what happened and why she always invited him.
She was messing around with a guard or domestic worker and no one knew except him. He found out three years ago and he never told anyone except his mate, Emma. Lunara knew she was being monitored so he guessed she invited him to make it seem as though he was the one lying with her. She also knew his mate was in that chamber and probably connected the faulty intercom to make sure Emma heard their voices.
He quickly grabbed the mouse and continued trying to find out what happened when he left the chamber, but with all his knowledge of technology, he couldn’t bypass the security. He wondered how much she paid tech-wolves to lock the camera that was in her chamber. She was not supposed to deny any member of the pack-kins bloodline access to the footage unless she had something to hide.
"I must watch the footage! Even if it means hiring all the tech-wolves in this territory!" He said and stood up angrily.
"Maybe you need to check Luna’s crystal eye too. Who knows?"
"Don’t worry, I think I have found the problem."
"Please, tell me. Remember, we are in this together. Do not let me out."
"I’ll talk to you later," he said, scampering out. Leo and Max ran after him.
There was a mobile ladder in one of the basements in the general high Realm. He sent Leo to get it immediately.
No one has the right to remove any DVR from the crystal eye except the royal den’s technicians and with the Alpha’s and Luna’s approval. Any attempt to obstruct the crystal eye or remove the DVR triggers an alarm.
He took the ladder from Leo and entered Lunara’s chamber without knocking. She was not in the chamber. He set the mobile ladder properly and dismantled the crystal eye that was in her chamber. Emergency alarms filled the whole palace and soon attracted all the palace’s armed guards and Luna Alexandra.
Lunara came in when he had successfully removed the DVR and gave him a nothing-is-there kind of look. He knew her very well. She knows how to mask her fear and keep her face as expressionless as ever.
"The battle hasn’t started and she has gone crazy already," Lunara smirked.
"You are black-hearted! But I’m going to disgrace and expose you!! If I see anything here..."
"You can’t do that without exposing yourself," she smirked. "Disgracing me means disgracing yourself. The whole world knows we are destined to rule this High Realm one day," she bragged, standing in his way. He pushed her aside and walked towards the door.
"Brandon!" Luna Alexandra, who was standing in the middle of the chamber, called. He halted without turning to look in her direction.
"She is right. Disgracing her means disgracing yourself. If she is guilty, then you are guilty too."
"What are you saying, mother?"
"I’m no pup or young wolf! I know what you are doing, but the reason why you are doing it is what I don’t know. Fix the DVR back because you will see only yourself.
"What am I doing?"
"Fight during the day to confuse everyone and profess love to her at night. I would have stopped the mating preparation the day you told me that you were not interested. But, with the way things are going between both of you, Brandon, you might get her pregnant before the feast."
His mother’s words fueled the desire to find out what was going on in Lunara’s chamber. She made his bloodline believe he was lying with her. Telling them that he was not the one would make no sense without finding the identity of the guard or domestic worker she was lying with.
