Chapter 174: Fighting demonized

Riven and Sofia made their way through the forest. If Quin had released demonized, then they were going to do this with even more effort; they would give their all to see those creatures die.

As they ran side by side, a demonized launched from their side, jaws wide open, ready to bite into Sofia. But Riven grabbed her and pulled her back, his eyes glowing for a moment as his sword traveled in an arc, flames erupting over it.

"Keep your jaws to yourself," he said, his tone cold and detached as the sword dug into the skull of the demonized.

Boom.

It hit the skull and cracked it, sending the demonized flying backward into a tree and blasting through the tree.

Riven didn’t stop for even a moment. His feet kicked against the ground and he lunged forward, leaping into the air, sword in both hands, and coming down for a stab.

The demonized tried to dodge, but before it could, the sword dug into its head and finalized the kill. Riven pulled out the blade and let out a breath. Taking down a demonized in two attacks was crazy work, and it took a lot of energy.

"Watch out!" Sofia yelled and stretched out her staff, releasing a fireball, slamming into the demonized that was trying to attack Riven from the back.

The attack knocked the demonized back, and she gave chase immediately. She spun her staff around, her mouth already moving and muttering her next spell.

A magic circle formed above the demonized, and a pillar of flame fell from it and landed on the demonized. It roared in pain and started thrashing around, trying to stop the pain.

"Let me cool you off," she said. She planted her feet into the ground and pointed her staff at the demonized. She cast a spell and a huge blast of water shot out and slammed into the demonized, pushing it back with force, sending it slamming through several trees until it finally stopped.

The demonized stopped moving entirely and turned into light particles. She smiled when she saw it was dead and then looked at Riven.

"Thank you," he said.

She smiled in return, but then her eyes got serious the next moment. Riven also felt the presence of more demonized coming toward them, so he got ready to fight. He got into his stance, and so did she.

The first demonized leaped out, charging for Sofia. She attacked without missing a beat, a fireball right to the face. Riven came from behind her after she slowed it down. He charged from the side and attacked, his blade going for the neck.

The demonized pulled back and dodged the attack, only to be met with a fireball to the head again. This time, Riven was very close. He lunged forward, sword stabbing through the neck of the demonized. He slashed down and decapitated it.

Just as that one fell, another leaped out, and then another.

"Two?" Riven asked.

"I’ll hold one off, take the other," Lucy said. She gripped her staff tighter and cast her spell. Magical circles formed behind her and shot flame blades at the demonized, all targeting it.

The demonized crossed its arms to protect its face from the blades.

The rest tore through the sides of its body, but it ignored the pain from those ones. After surviving the first attack, it charged toward her, getting close and attacking, slashing its claws at her.

She pulled back at just the right time and dodged that attack before using a water spell and blasting the demonized back. The force from the spell also pushed her back and created a space between them.

She pointed her staff at the demonized and immediately blasted it with a massive bolt of lightning. It electrocuted the demonized until it couldn’t move anymore, and then she cast another spell that fired a very compressed bolt of lightning.

It penetrated through the chest of the demonized and left a massive hole in its chest. She thought the demonized would die, but to her surprise, it didn’t, and the stun had also worn off.

It used its last strength and attacked her again, and because she wasn’t prepared, the attack grazed her arm and left deep claw cuts. She gritted her teeth and swung her staff at close range, whacking the demonized in the head, and then blasting it with a fireball.

Both attacks pushed the demonized back. She pulled one leg back and pointed her staff forward, and at point-blank range, she used another lightning spell.

The bolt of lightning hit the demonized in the chest and added to its injury. This time the attack worked, and it collapsed to the ground dead, its body bursting into particles.

Riven, on the other hand, got very close and personal with the demonized. It attacked him with a slash, but he slid under it and came up with a slash, ripping through the side of the demonized with speed and precision.

Roaaarrrrr!

The demonized let out a resounding roar and then swung its arms wildly, with one coming for Riven fast. He didn’t falter or fear; he pushed in close and slashed through the arm at the right moment, cutting it off entirely.

It let out another roar, filled with pain. It tried to retreat, knowing it was going to die at this point, but Riven wasn’t allowing that.

"No running away," he said with a smile as the adrenaline in his body pumped. He pushed in closer and pointed his blade at the demonized. "Flame blast," he called out.

Boom!

The fire hit the demonized, and an explosion followed, ripping it into shreds from inside and killing it.

Riven watched it turn to particles and float away, but he didn’t put his sword away, because he could feel the presence of another coming.

He and Sofia looked in that direction. They waited, and after a few seconds, it stepped out into the light.

"Oh shit," Riven cursed.
