Chapter 437: The War for Antarctica (7)

Henry really wanted to keep an eye on Vicky’s fight, but after Sarah summoning a tornado, the veil entirely blocked his vision.

Not to mention, both Xinya and Vicky teleported away seconds after their fight began. He could only hope her battle went well. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

Instead of worrying about his very capable fiancée, he paid full attention to the cowboy. Before their fight even began, he already changed the duel revolvers into the gatling rifle.

The Prince also summoned his warscythe and immediately ran behind some debris as the large rifle began spewing bullets.

He hid behind a giant boulder, yet Chang’s bullets ate through it within moments. Something Bea failed to mention when describing the cowboy’s ability was how strong his rifle was exactly.

Each tree in the forest which Bea grew was much stronger than a simple block of reinforced concrete, so Chang’s rifle wasn’t as effective. However, there weren’t any strong covers in this urban setting.

When the cowboy’s bullets eventually punctured the concrete block, Henry was already preparing to run.

His midnight black armor with white lines enveloped his muscular body as he ducked out of his makeshift cover.

Henry’s speed vastly increased as he ran straight towards Chang.

The Transcended simply grinned and aimed his weapon below himself, while increasing its rate of fire. He then jumped up from the ground and flew high into the sky, out of the Prince’s reach.

The veil covered the cowboy’s escape, leaving Henry clueless about his exact position. The Prince glanced around the hidden battlefield, the sound of explosions and thunder mixing into an unpierceable layer of constant noise.

However, through the noise, he eventually heard the distinct sound of the gatling rifle’s barrel turning.

The Prince trusted his instincts, and with a clean back handspring, he jumped away. His previous position exploded as a hail of bullets carved a hole into the rubble.

He raised the warscythe, as the dust rose into the air. The line of fire moved to his current position, but this time, he didn’t dodge away. Instead, he took a step forward, into the hail of bullets.

Henry activated his power, and suddenly the world drastically slowed outside of his created bubble.

Each bullet crawled towards the edge of the bubble, giving Henry ample time to either dodge or cut them to pieces.

Cunningly, he used the moment of respite to locate the source of the bullets. He couldn’t pierce the veil of fog and dust, but all the bullets flew in a straight line... Henry simply needed to follow that line!

He evaded another few bullets, then began sprinting. Upon reaching the edge of the bubble, he summoned another. Seamlessly, he moved from one bubble to another, which kept his surroundings slowed.

From outside, it looked like he moved extremely fast, but in reality he wasn’t much faster than the average Ascended.

Henry followed the bullets, but he quickly realized a problem... Chang was still high in the sky!

With all his power, the Prince leapt away from the crumbling ground, towards the source of the bullets. However, in the air, the bubbles only hindered his movements.

The wind, rain and sound of thunder and explosion returned to normal. He struggled with the sensory overload for a moment, but after a quick recovery, he continued moving towards Chang.

The cowboy chuckled upon seeing his fast approaching form. He aimed his weapon towards Henry and began shooting bullets in quick succession.

The Prince, using his warscythe cut them all to pieces. His momentum pushed him closer to Chang, yet his gatling rifle also pushed the cowboy higher into the sky.

Eventually, Henry ran out of upward kinetic energy. He floated in the air for a moment, then began falling towards the ground.

Chang continued peppering him with bullets, and in his moment of confusion, one snuck through his defenses. His armor held out even against the bullet from a Transcended’s rifle, which was a minor blessing.

By Henry’s knowledge, the cowboy’s bullets carried some kind of poison or other deadly effect. His Ascended constitution wouldn’t survive against it.

He gasped in pain while continuing his unstoppable fall. The ribs on left his side felt tender, which meant while the bullet didn’t penetrate his armor, it definitely broke them.

A rain of bullets followed him, which he couldn’t evade or block. However, before they could’ve reached him, he pushed them all one second into the future. When the next hail of bullets reached the same position, he let go.

The bullets kept in the future appeared, keeping their momentum. But before reaching Henry, they collided with the approaching bullets, stopping them or pushing them off course.

More bullets continued hitting the others, creating an impenetrable wall of disorganized projectiles.

Henry took a calming breath as his body hit the ground hard. He began rolling down a hill of broken debris, but before long the Prince was already back on his feet, running from the constant rain of bullets.

Even as an extremely strong Ascended, he couldn’t defeat a Transcended easily. Especially if his enemy could perfectly utilize Henry’s one weakness... Being stuck on the ground!

Unlike most Evolved, he didn’t have any ability that could help with flight. His enhanced physical strength could push him about a hundred meters into the sky, but he would inevitably fall back.

This battle was truly a stalemate. He couldn’t reach Chang, and his bullets were nothing but a nuisance to Henry. The best he could do was hide and wait until the cowboy used too much essence.

The lightning illuminated the veil, revealing many shadows fighting in the air. The battle area continued growing as more soldiers entered through the portals.

"Dammit, Vicky! Where are you? Why haven’t you ended the fight against Xinya!... Don’t tell me she doesn’t want to kill her!... This isn’t the time for mercy!"

Henry cursed under his breath as the wall of debris turned into dust under Chang’s bullet barrage.

While waiting seemed like a sure way to victory, he couldn’t wait anymore. He became worried about Vicky’s safety, so he needed to end this fight as soon as possible!

He created another time sphere, and after cutting up a few bullets, he made another tunnel of bubbles.

The Prince sprinted until he reached the area below Chang. The world seemed to slow further outside the sphere as Henry concentrated.

Suddenly, he turned the sphere into a tunnel leading right next to Chang. It took a quarter of Henry’s essence, and just keeping it up drained him extremely fast.

The more he condensed time inside the tunnel, the more essence it used, but he couldn’t lose the element of surprise this time.

Sweat ran down the Prince’s handsome face, as his knees bent. The ground further cracked below his boots as he sent a wave of kinetic energy across the broken concrete, propelling himself up through the tunnel.

A small gasp escaped his mouth as exhaustion took hold of his mind. The sides of his vision darkened, yet he pushed through the feeling, focusing on the task at hand.

He couldn’t pass out! His fiancée needed help!... At least that’s what he used to keep himself awake...

Henry never used this much essence at once, so his entire body wanted to collapse from tiredness.

The young Prince flew through the tunnel, and after a few seconds, he reached the end... With his prey an arm reach away!

Without his knowledge, a small grin appeared across his handsome face. He brandished his glowing, white warscythe and prepared an attack, which should end the fight.

However, the moment he left the tunnel, time returned to normal. Chang turned in the air and pointed his rifle straight at the Prince.

The barrel spun, making a dreadful screeching sound as the barrel glowed with bright light. One bullet after another flew towards Henry, but he didn’t care.

Henry’s warscythe moved like an unstoppable force. He made a single slash aimed at Chang’s shin before the hail of bullets hit his armored body.

They halted his momentum and sent him falling towards the ground. One second passed after another, and hundreds of bullets hit his armor.

His face contorted while in the air, as each bullet sent his mind further into agony. He gasped once, before his tall body hit the ground and creating a wide crater.

A dust cloud went up into the air, making the fog denser around Henry’s broken body.

He felt that most of his bones broke under the hail of bullets and the force of the fall... At least none managed to penetrate the armor!

The Prince tried reaching out and grasping his warscythe, but his hand and arm became useless. Pain coursed through his body even from such a simple motion.

Nearby, through the constant explosion, thunder and wind, the sound of boots walking across debris echoed.

With tired eyes, Henry turned towards the sound’s source. Chang walked out with a wide grin.

He pointed his rifle at the Prince’s head, but didn’t pull the trigger... Like a cheap villain, he wanted to gloat in his victory!

"The Boss said to watch out for ya! She said you’re some extremely strong and terrifying kid! An Ascended who can kill most Transcended with ease!... Not to be an asshole, but you were kind of disappointing!"

The Prince didn’t take offense at Chang’s words. He even smiled behind his helmet upon noticing a small tremble in the cowboy’s leg.

While his enemy continued gloating, Henry turned his vision to the blade of his warscythe. At the very tip of his weapon, he saw something that made the young Prince burst into joyous laughter.

At the blade’s edge, he saw a bit of fresh blood... His weapon managed to cut Chang’s shin!
