Chapter 438: The War for Antarctica (8)

Bea carried no reservations in her heart. With her lone wooden longsword, she stepped forward and ran straight towards the man in the red robe.

The man’s grin sent shivers down her spine, and even in the face of imminent danger, he still laughed... Bea wanted to wipe that grin off his face!

Slayer stood with no weapons, his face revealing nothing but insanity. However, under the facade of madness, a cunning individual hid.

He watched Bea’s approach with curiosity. A gentle tremble went across her body upon gazing at Slayer, as if she was uncertain of each step. Yet, her movements stayed refined and near perfect.

The scary man ground his teeth both in anticipation, and, surprising even himself, concern. Something was off with this magnificent woman. Her eyes didn’t carry the usual fear he induced in every opponent.

Xinya introduced every single Transcended and Stellar who could cause issues, and this lady was one of the most dangerous.

She had powers that could control and grow nature. She also had incredible regeneration, capable of growing limbs back in seconds. However, these didn’t warrant for the high danger-level.

"Well, whatever! I’ll figure it out, eventually."

His enemy was still a dozen meters away, but she could easily close that gap in less than a second.

Slayer blinked once, and suddenly Bea stood before him, with her blade plunged straight into his chest... The vision soon ended, giving Slayer the information needed!

The madman’s grin widened as he stepped to the side, perfectly evading Bea’s sword. However, before her stab could’ve finished, she turned the blade and horizontally swept to the side, cutting off Slayer’s head.

After another vision, he ducked under the deadly blow, and plunged his hand into Bea’s chest. He tried ending the battle the same way he did with that Stellar lady... It was a grave mistake...

Bea didn’t even try evading or blocking his hand. She let Slayer’s hand pass right into her chest, and using the moment, she stabbed her sword into his neck. The blade expanded at a rapid rate, cutting off Slayer’s head... Again...

Deep down, Slayer cursed and abandoned his attack. He wasn’t certain if ripping out Bea’s heart would’ve killed her, but he would’ve definitely died.

The wide grin closed off further as their fight went on. His hands trembled, while squeezing them so hard that blood drops fell on the broken debris below his feet.

All his attempts at killing the swordswoman couldn’t make it through her nonexistent defense. His attacks could’ve caused serious damage to a normal human, so why doesn’t she defend herself?

Slayer couldn’t understand, and because he couldn’t understand, attacking without sufficient preparation was a death sentence!

It also didn’t help that her moves were so fast and refined, she could react to his educated moves.

Each time he glimpsed into the future and began moving, the future suddenly changed since Bea’s movements adapted to his. Every step, every slash, every thrust, their fluidity and adaptability, ruined Slayer’s future sight.

Their battle only went on for a few seconds, but he was already losing. It caused even more anger and frustration to ignite in his heart.

He still couldn’t understand why a Transcended fought against him with such ease. He killed Stellars before, a mere Transcended shouldn’t cause any problems!

Slayer evaded another attack that disemboweled him once. He breathed heavily, not from exhaustion but from pure rage.

Above them, lightning illuminated the foggy dust surrounding the battlefield. The sound of explosions and thunder continued, like an orchestra’s background music.

Both fighters used the moment of respite to collect themselves. They stood face-to-face, separated by a dozen meters, surrounded by destruction.

The madman chuckled after taking a few calming breaths. He gazed into Bea’s greenish-gold eyes, with his head tilted at an unnatural, disturbing angle. His usual grin brightened his otherwise grim expression, painting a creepy contrast.

"I underestimated you, Missy! Even after that strange girl, Xinya warned me, I still underestimated you! That’s what happens when they lock you away for countless years. You forget how much struggle a fight against a semi-equal opponent is!"

After hearing Slayer’s words, Bea leaned back with a raised eyebrow. Behind her, a large tree grew, supporting her from falling. She even crossed her arms, pretending to be careless, prompting Slayer to attack.

He, however, saw through the magnificent woman’s act. Her muscles and eyes stayed solely focused on him. It was impossible to catch her off guard.

"Why’s everyone calling me ’Missy’?! Ever since that weirdo made up the nickname, all of you began using it! It’s fucking annoying! My name’s Bea, not like any of you bothered to ask!"

Behind his hood, Slayer raised an eyebrow. He didn’t quite expect that to be Bea’s biggest concern at the moment... He found it hilarious, though, and soon burst into laughter!

His scratchy, uncomfortable voice echoed throughout the battlefield. A shiver ran down Bea’s spine, just from hearing Slayer speak.

"Nice to meet you, Bea! My name is Slayer... At least that’s what everyone calls me. However, I’m not bothered by it... I find it quite fitting! It describes me to utter perfection!... Also, I kind of forgot my real name, so Slayer’s all I got."

Bea couldn’t help but look surprised. She judged Slayer as a normal, albeit strange person, but now she needed to reassess her previous judgement. This scary man clearly wasn’t sane, but he also wasn’t Mad.

She thought over the information she gathered and came to a simple conclusion. Somehow, he went insane before or after Evolution.

What shocked Bea was his lack of connection to Madness. He’s the best target to control, yet no Seed of Madness appeared inside his mind... Could he be too insane even for Madness to take hold?

Well, she had nothing to lose, and since the man wasn’t in a hurry to continue their fight, she might as well gather some useable information.

"Slayer... Why are you here? Why are you fighting for the Asian Continent? Not to be offensive, but you look utterly insane. You seem like a person who follows their barest desires... Why did you come to Antarctica?"

The scary man recognized the real meaning behind each question. However, since he still needed time to assess Bea, he answered it regardless.

The madman spread his arms wide, his grin growing to disproportional size. Only now did Bea realize that Slayer’s teeth were pointy, like some strange animal. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel-com

"There are two things I love in life, dear Bea. I live for a good fight and crave the meat of fresh human corpses! The more powerful, the better they taste!"

Slayer laughed as if he told the funniest joke in the world, yet Bea didn’t doubt the truth in his words.

"You’re right, I’m a simple person who follows their deepest desires, and that’s exactly why I’m here! Antarctica is full of potential food and fighting sources! Powerful Evolved that I can devour!"

He raised his hands towards the obstructed sky, while his robe blown in the strong winds. Somehow, Bea could even glimpse below the blood-red robe. It seemed layered... Maybe he wore multiple robes?

However, Bea kept her eyes focused on the madman’s hood, especially his mouth. While talking, she noticed something strange in his voice, a few tiny fluctuations.

No normal Evolved would’ve ever heard it, but Bea’s close connection to nature gave her many small, mostly useless abilities.

She could also notice people’s increased heart and breathing rate, which could speak volumes about their actual intentions. Bea, using all this information, concluded that... Slayer wasn’t honest...

A small grin grew on Bea’s lips, which unsettled Slayer for some reason. He felt as if his enemy had just gained some important knowledge.

"So you’re a cannibal, eh? You only came here to eat all the powerful people while having fun fighting and killing. A noble goal indeed, living to your barest desire... However, that isn’t the only reason you came here, is it?"

Slayer’s everlasting grin froze for a moment, which told Bea everything she needed to know. Her own smile widened, while Slayer’s expression became grim.

He took a deep breath and summoned back his grin. It felt different, though, much more genuine, less like an awful actor giving a horrendous performance.

"You’ve seen through me! Congratulations, you’re the first!... Well, except for that gloomy Ethereal who rescued me from that awful place. That man saw through me before I even said anything!... He gave me this job, the price for my freedom!"

While talking, Slayer straightened his back and made a few head curls, causing his neck to crack, releasing the pent up pressure.

The not so madman held out his right hand to the side, and slowly a long, curved, white, bone-like sword grew from his arm. Straight from his own bones.

Its sharpened side had pointy, teeth-like protrusions, which further increased the weapon’s fear factor.

As Slayer stood under the rain and wind, with explosions and lightning glowing around them, the entire battlefield’s atmosphere changed.

He was no longer an insane predator wanting to devour everything... No, the beast standing in front of Bea wasn’t a predator but a hunter, which ate predators!

Slowly, the scary man’s vision moved. His face stayed in shadow, but under the hood. The wind also pushed the fabric from one side. Nevertheless, Bea a glimpsed under the hood and a tiny blood-red glow stared back... Slayer’s eye!

Bea’s body froze in fear as she gazed into that red glow. It felt like something truly horrific gazed out of the hood. A true monster!

Slayer grinned widely, satisfied with the terrorized outcome. However, soon his smile froze once more, and he also began feeling threatened!

A strange calmness took control of Bea’s horrified body, and she suddenly felt at ease. Unknowingly to the magnificent woman, her eyes also began glowing... They glowed with a pure golden light!
