Chapter 116: Chapter 107: Making His Own Sentai Game

Wednesday, November 27, 1991

After finalizing brief plans for his next 2 games, Jetman and SpongeBob, on Monday, Zaboru spent the next day helping to speed up the completion of three titles set for December release—Ninja Gaiden, Gun-Nac, and Metroid. With those games now on track, he could finally shift his full attention to brainstorming for January's game lineup.

Zaboru headed to his personal workshop within the office—a restricted space where no one was allowed without his permission. This was his sanctuary, a place where ideas took form. He immediately sat down, ready to dive into his first Sentai game, basing it on the first-ever Sentai game from his past life: Choujin Sentai Jetman.

Jetman had been one of his favorite childhood shows. As a kid, he had adored old-school Tokusatsu, but by the 2010s, after Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger ended, he had lost interest. The newer series felt too childish, and the weapons looked too much like plastic toys. He understood that Sentai shows were always meant for children, but the older ones had compelling plots, which was why they still held a special place in his heart.

Taking a deep breath, Zaboru activated his Deep Memory Dive, recalling how he had played the Choujin Sentai Jetman game.

"The original Jetman game had all five main heroes, each wielding either a gun or a sword. There was even a mecha battle at the end—revolutionary for its time. But the enemy variety was lacking, and the gameplay had almost no replay value. If I want this to succeed, I need to fix those flaws. Instead of making a standalone game that changes every year like traditional Sentai, I could create a continuous Sentai series."

Zaboru smirked as an idea formed. Red Hawk would remain the red Sentai, but for the other members, he would draw from different Sentai series, mixing their aesthetics to create something unique. He also considered expanding beyond the standard five-member team—early Sentai rarely introduced official additional members mid-season, but that changed with Zyuranger and the legendary Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The first extra warrior, Burai, had hyped him up so much as a teenager.

"Heh... this is gonna be fun." He grabbed his notepad and started jotting down key changes:

Unique Weapons & Abilities – Each Sentai hero would wield distinct weapons instead of just swords or guns. Special abilities would also differentiate them.More Enemies & Bosses – To increase the game's depth, he would add a wider variety of enemies and mid-boss fights.Refined Mecha Battles – The original game's mecha fights were clunky. He would smooth out the mechanics and add more dynamic battle sequences.Unlockable Sentai Members – Instead of a static five-member team, players could unlock additional heroes through achievements.A Deep Lore – He would integrate an engaging story, making each character and faction feel fleshed out.

For the core team, he might settled on:

Red Sentai: Red Hawk (Jetman)Blue Sentai: Gao Blue (Gaoranger)Yellow Sentai: Ninja Yellow (Kakuranger)Green Sentai: Shishi Ranger (Dairanger)Pink Sentai: Pink Mask (Maskman)

As for unlockable members, he could mix Sentai warriors from different series, making the game a celebration of Tokusatsu history in his previous world. He grinned at the thought.

"I need a strong name, though... Choujin Sentai sounds cool, but since the roster isn't just Jetman, the name doesn't quite fit. Maybe... Z-Man?"

The name rolled off his tongue, and he instantly liked it. It had a modern ring to it while still paying homage to the original Sentai style. Choujin Sentai Z-Man would be his Sentai universe.

"Alright, time to take this to the next level." He grinned. "I'll need a prop maker to craft Z-Man costumes for the commercial, detailed illustrations for the heroes, and, of course, a killer theme song!"

He could already picture the promo: a live-action ad featuring Z-Man with the Jetman theme song playing in the background. Thinking That nostalgic tune from his previous life still sent shivers down his spine. Humming the melody, Zaboru grabbed his art supplies and began sketching character designs and mecha concepts at lightning speed.

His hands moved with purpose, the lines of his illustrations. For the next two days, he would pour everything into bringing Z-Man to life. The more he sketched, the more excited he became—this wasn't just a game. This was the beginning of something much bigger.

Humming the Jetman theme, he worked tirelessly, lost in the thrill of creation.

Power Stone!

I really love old-school Super Sentai! Their plots were super interesting—even dark at times! I still remember when I was a kid, I cried watching Black sentai - Black Condor die in Jetman!—The show was so cool back then.

But now, it just feels too silly. Kamen Rider is the same. Before Decade, Kamen Rider was always cool, but after that, it kind of went downhill. I still enjoyed it up until OOO, but after that, I didn't watch much... until I saw Kamen Rider Ghost and very disappointed—and after that, I never watched Kamen Rider again, lol.*
