Chapter 508: Chapter 508: Testing The Power

She walked toward him.

"And don’t worry about supplies. I’ve already prepared for that."

Mu Rongjie raised a brow but said nothing.

Su Jiyai stopped a few feet from him. "Now, I’ll ask one more time—take back your people. Shut down your scam. Or I’ll show you just how serious I am."

Mu Rongjie stared at her for a long second.

"You will regret your decision."

Su Jiyai smiled and asked with interest,

"Ah? How?"

Mu Rongjie stared straight at Su Jiyai, his lips curling into a slow, cold smile.

"If you really go through with this," he said in a low voice, "then you will offend the Mu family."

Su Jiyai raised one eyebrow. "And?"

Right then, Su Jiyai’s voice came through the speaker with interest, his tone playful but alert.

"Oooh, a secret? What kind of secret are we talking about, Mr. Mu?"

Mu Rongjie didn’t look at the speaker.

"I know you’re just a puppet," he said calmly. "That there’s someone behind you. A real owner... someone who truly runs Hope Base. You’re just the face."

Su Jiyai blinked once, then gave a tiny laugh. She didn’t deny it. Instead, she tilted her head and asked,

"And if this ’real owner’ does exist, why would they listen to you and not me?"

She folded her arms. "I’ve been working hard for them for over a year. Why would they throw me away?"

Mu Rongjie’s face didn’t change. He looked smug, as if he already knew something no one else did.

"Because I can offer them something better," he said confidently. "Something more useful than what you give."

There was a short silence.

And then, Su Jiyai laughed. Really laughed.

Her head tilted back as a soft chuckle left her lips, but it didn’t sound amused. It sounded disappointed.

She looked at him again, eyes cold now.

"That’s too bad," she said with a smile. "Because I was hoping you had something smart to say."

She leaned in slightly and whispered like it was a secret, "The mastermind... is me."

Mu Rongjie blinked, clearly not expecting that.

"There is no one else. No owner behind the curtain. No shadow pulling the strings." She straightened up. "I built Hope Base from scratch. I protected it. I feed the people. I set the rules."

She pointed to herself.

"I am the one behind the scenes and in front of them."

Mu Rongjie stared at the speaker for a second.

And then... he chuckled.

Like he didn’t believe her at all.

"You don’t have to lie to me, Boss Su," he said in a soft voice. "I already know the truth."

Su Jiyai narrowed her eyes again.

Mu Rongjie leaned back slightly, eyes glinting with sharp confidence.

"Then I want to meet the mastermind myself," he said coolly. "And if you, the puppet, don’t let me meet them..."

He leaned in closer, lowering his voice.

"...I’ll make sure you lose your position."

Su Jiyai stared at him, stunned for just half a second. Not because she believed his words — but because of how ridiculously bold they were.

This guy... really thinks he’s that important?

For a moment, she truly wanted to just slap him across the face. Her hand even twitched.

Who the heck fed him this nonsense? And why did he believe it so easily?

Taking a deep breath to calm herself down, Su Jiyai forced a smile onto her face.

"You know what, Mr. Mu?" she said softly, but her voice was filled with warning. "If you don’t walk out of this conference room right now... I’ll personally kick you out of the base."

Her eyes flashed.

"And trust me, I won’t be polite about it."

Mu Rongjie only smiled.

Not a real one — a smug, self-satisfied smirk that made Su Jiyai want to roll her eyes.

"Alright," he said, standing up as if he was in control. "I’m going."

In his heart, though, he was thinking something else completely.

She’s scared, he thought. She’s afraid I’ll reach the mastermind. Afraid I’ll replace her. That’s why she wants me gone so fast.

Feeling proud of himself, Mu Rongjie walked out of the room with confident steps.

.......................

About twenty minutes later, he stepped onto the luxurious floor he had rented inside Hope Base.

The Mu family had taken over the whole place, decorating it like a fancy hotel.

Expensive furniture, shiny lights, and most of all, food. Lots of food. Plates stacked with fresh fruit, hot dishes, and even desserts that were hard to find in the apocalypse.

The moment Mu Rongjie entered, his family members rushed toward him.

"Big Brother Rongjie!"

"Did you meet the mastermind?!"

"Did they agree to our offer?!"

Mu Rongjie waved a hand, signaling them to calm down. Everyone looked excited and a little nervous, hanging onto his next words.

They monopolized all the spa in the base, even though the base had a rule — "No monopolizing of resources allowed" — they still did it anyway. All for one reason:

They wanted to catch the attention of the mysterious mastermind behind Hope Base.

Their plan was simple — show off their wealth, power, and boldness, then get noticed and invited for cooperation. After that, they could become the richest family in the base.

But so far... nothing had worked.

Mu Rongjie finally sat down on one of the plush sofas, drinking a cool glass of juice as he spoke.

"I didn’t meet the mastermind," he said slowly. "I only spoke to Boss Su."

The family groaned.

"What did she say?"

Mu Rongjie’s eyes narrowed.

"She threatened to kick us out of the base."

"What?!"

"Why?!"

"She’s probably scared," Mu Rongjie said calmly, as if it was obvious. "Scared that if we meet the mastermind, we’ll take her job."

Everyone nodded seriously at that.

"She must feel threatened."

"Of course. If the mastermind likes us better, she’s done for."

Mu Rongjie leaned back with a smirk. "Exactly. So now, we need a better plan. Something big. Something the mastermind can’t ignore."

The family members looked at each other, nodding again.

They didn’t know they were walking straight into a wall.

Mu Rongjie leaned forward, excitement dancing in his eyes. "Alright, everyone, listen up! It’s time to do something big! We need to make the mastermind notice us."

His cousin clapped eagerly. "Let’s throw a huge party! We’ll invite only the top families and show how powerful the Mu family is!"

His aunt chimed in, "And we can give out gift baskets! Fancy ones! With chocolate, silk, and maybe even real coffee beans!"

Another Mu cousin jumped up, "Let’s build a golden statue of the mastermind in the center of the spa! That’ll make them happy, right?"

Everyone gasped like that was the best idea in the world.

Mu Rongjie nodded seriously. "Yes! All of this. A party, luxury gifts, and a statue. We’ll dedicate the whole spa to the mastermind! And I’ll give a speech, of course."

Cheers filled the room as everyone started pitching in ideas.

"Let’s print shirts that say ’We love the Mastermind!’"

"We’ll have music and fireworks!"

"And a cake! A five-layer one!"

Mu Rongjie stood proudly, hands behind his back, thinking they were the smartest people alive.

They truly believed their flashy plan would win the heart of the person in charge.

Far away from the Mu family’s glittery nonsense, Su Jiyai stood in the middle of an empty training field.

The cool wind blew across her face as she stretched her arms, cracking her fingers.

Finally, she was free.

No more spying eyes. No more fake politeness. No more lies.

It was just her... and her powers.

"I need to see how far I’ve come," she muttered.

With seven powers from the devils, she was sure to become even more powerful!

The system’s robotic voice answered immediately.

[Correction: Six.]

Su Jiyai frowned. "Six? No way. I’ve absorbed seven."

[Negative. You have absorbed six devil powers. One of them—the one from the throne puppet—was not a devil.]

"Oh..." Su Jiyai paused.

Now that she thought about it... the puppet on the throne did feel different. It didn’t carry that same chaotic energy the devils had. Instead, it was hollow... artificial.

She sighed. "Fine, you’re right."

[Always am.]

"Don’t push it," Su Jiyai muttered, rolling her eyes.

Then, she brought up the list of powers she had inside her.

1. Melodic Manipulation. This came from Veil. With it, she could sing and twist people’s emotions—make them cry, laugh, or even panic.

But it needed people to test on, and she wasn’t about to use innocent folks just for fun.

"Not today," she whispered.

2. Flight + Enhanced Speed and Strength. That came from Crow, and this one... she really wanted to try.

Su Jiyai took a deep breath and focused.

She imagined the wings. Light as air, powerful as steel.

And with a shimmer of white light—

SHOOM!

A huge pair of wings burst out from her back. They were beautiful—sleek, glowing slightly, with streaks of silver running down the feathers.
