Apocalypse: I Have A Multiplier System-Chapter 515: Conspiracy?
Chapter 515: Chapter 515: Conspiracy?
Su Jiyai smiled brightly. "Hello again, little ones."
The oldest girl tilted her head. "Did you call us for something, Grandma Fairy?"
Su Jiyai nodded. "Yes. You gave me a gift earlier. It made me very happy. So now... if I give you a gift back, would you accept it?"
The kids looked at each other, puzzled. "A gift?" one of them repeated.
"Yes," Su Jiyai said. "In return for your chocolates, I want to give you this food. Would that be alright?"
The tallest boy grinned. "It’s a thank-you gift? Then of course we’ll take it!"
"Yeah!" the others shouted happily. "Thank-you gifts are allowed!"
Su Jiyai laughed softly. "Then it’s settled."
At that moment, the doors opened again, and the children’s parents walked in. Most of them were in worn-out clothes, their faces tired from guarding the base in harsh weather. They looked at their kids first, then at the mountains of food, and finally at Su Jiyai.
They understood what had happened.
Their kids—innocent and sweet—had given away their most precious treats, and now they were getting a gift worth more than anything they had ever owned.
One father stepped forward nervously. "Madam Su, we... we are grateful, truly. But we only gave you four candies. This food is worth more than our lifetime earnings. We can’t—"
Before he could finish, Su Jiyai raised her hand again.
"No," she said. "You must not feel guilty. It’s not about the value. It’s about the heart."
"But—" another mother tried to speak, her eyes watery.
Su Jiyai stepped closer, her gaze strong and warm.
"Your children gave without expecting anything in return. That kind of heart is priceless. This is my decision. And it is final."
The parents lowered their heads, tears quietly falling down their cheeks.
They were soldiers. They had stood in the cold, hungry and tired, for years.
But today, thanks to their children’s kindness, their lives would change.
The mothers hugged their kids tightly. The fathers saluted Su Jiyai with deep respect.
Su Jiyai stepped out of the building slowly, her cane tapping the stone path. Qin Feng followed right beside her, silent and alert.
Once they reached the car, the door opened with a soft hiss. They both got in and settled down.
As the car pulled away from Sunfire Haven, the warm sunlight streamed through the window.
Qin Feng glanced at Su Jiyai. "You didn’t have to give that much food," he said softly. "Was it because you felt pity for them?"
Su Jiyai looked out the window for a moment, watching the trees pass by, then shook her head.
"No," she replied. "It wasn’t pity."
"Then why?" Qin Feng asked gently.
Su Jiyai’s eyes softened as she spoke.
"It was those kids. The way they talked about their parents... how proud they were. It touched my heart. And the chocolates... that small gift... it meant a lot."
Qin Feng nodded quietly. "I see."
Suddenly, the car slowed down. In the distance, a group of people was stumbling through the road, running and crawling, trying to escape something.
"Zombies," Qin Feng said with a sharp voice.
The growls echoed from behind the group, and sure enough, dozens of zombies were chasing them.
Su Jiyai leaned forward. Her eyes narrowed.
"Why are they crawling like that? They look weak... as if they can’t even stand."
Qin Feng stared for a second, then his face turned serious.
"They might’ve been drugged. That’s the only thing that can make people this weak and confused."
Su Jiyai frowned, her expression cold. "Disgusting."
She paused for a second, thinking fast. Then she said,
"Qin Feng, take us closer. I want to bring them in. If I can increase the number of people in Hope Base, I might unlock the level six upgrade."
Qin Feng turned the car and drove closer without hesitation.
As soon as the people saw the shiny black car approaching, their eyes lit up. They stumbled forward, raising their hands and clapping them together as if praying.
"Please! Please help us!"
"Don’t leave us behind! We’re innocent!"
"We don’t know why the zombies are chasing us—we just started feeling sleepy and dizzy!"
They looked completely helpless. Some of them had kids in their arms. Some were old. Some looked injured.
One woman held her little brother, shaking.
"We... we were trying to reach Hope Base. We wanted to become tenants there. Please—if you save us, we’ll never forget it. We will help you to join the Hope base too if you help us!"
Su Jiyai raised her eyebrow. She was surprised. "They all want to join Hope Base?"
Before she could say anything, Qin Feng stepped forward and asked, "Does anyone else know that you were planning to join Hope Base?"
The people looked confused, thinking hard.
"No," one man said, "only our base leader knew. We didn’t tell anyone else."
Su Jiyai’s eyes darkened a little, suspecting something fishy, but the zombies were getting closer now.
The growls were louder. The smell of rot filled the air.
Su Jiyai motioned with her hand. "Qin Feng, load them into the car. Use the SSS-ranked features."
Qin Feng nodded and opened the car door wide. The vehicle looked like a normal 4-seater from the outside... but inside?
It was huge. Like an RV with soft seats, beds, and even clean water bottles waiting for them.
Qin Feng helped the first woman and her brother get in. Then a mother and her baby. Then another family.
More and more people climbed in.
At first, they were pushing their children ahead, whispering, "Only the kids first! There’s no space for all of us!"
But then... the car didn’t stop accepting people.
One by one... ten, twenty, thirty... and still, the car didn’t look full.
They all stared in shock. "Wait... how is this car so big inside?"
"Are we dreaming?"
"This is some kind of... miracle car!"
Even as more climbed in, Su Jiyai and Qin Feng remained calm, helping each person without rushing.
Finally, after everyone was inside, Su Jiyai stood by the open door and spoke.
"I didn’t want to introduce myself in such a weird situation... but since we’re here..."
She took off her glasses and smiled slightly.
"I’m Boss Su, the leader of Hope Base."
Gasps filled the air.
Everyone stared with wide eyes. They had heard the stories. The woman who built a rich, safe base. The one who used nanobots.
And now she was here... saving them.
Su Jiyai continued,
"Don’t worry. You’re in safe hands now. Just rest. We’ll talk once we’re back."
The car door closed behind her, and the vehicle smoothly turned, speeding away from the zombie-filled road, leaving behind dust and rotten growls.
Maybe it was because of the drug, or maybe because they finally felt safe... one by one, the rescued people fell asleep.
Su Jiyai looked at them through the rear-view mirror.
Mothers holding their children, elders resting with their heads on soft pillows, teenagers curled up in quiet corners. They looked peaceful now. Safe.
Then, she turned her face toward the window, watching the dusty road fly past.
"Qin Feng," she said in a soft voice, "do you think... someone was trying to frame Hope Base?"
Qin Feng’s hands tightened slightly on the steering wheel. He gave a slow nod.
"Yes. I’ve seen this before," he said. "Same trick."
Su Jiyai raised an eyebrow. "Tell me."
Qin Feng sighed.
"Back when I was still leading Sufeng Base, there was a group of people from a nearby small base. One of their officers contacted me.
They said they wanted to join our base. I agreed happily. We prepared to bring them in."
He glanced over at her. "But just before we could reach them, we got news. All of them died. Worse, they turned into zombies."
Su Jiyai frowned deeply.
Qin Feng continued,
"The base leader of that small base suddenly flipped. He accused us of failing to protect them. He demanded compensation.
But when we investigated, we found out those people were already infected. They knew it. They were trying to die on the way to our base, so that they won’t die in vain.
That way, their kids could stay and get the benefits. Maybe even take over the base someday."
Su Jiyai’s voice was low and thoughtful. "So you think this could be the same?"
Qin Feng shook his head. "No. This feels different."
Su Jiyai nodded slowly.
"I think so too... A little different. Maybe this time, the base leader didn’t want to frame us. Maybe he just wanted to use these people as bait.
Send them out, let the zombies follow them, and keep his own base safe."
She tapped her finger on the armrest.
"Especially since the base they came from was only a few kilometers away. If the leader was okay with them leaving, it means he didn’t value them. He wanted to use them."
Qin Feng’s expression turned cold.
