Apocalypse: Reborn with a Soul Sync Farming Space System-Chapter 30 Watering the Crops
Laurel arched her brows as the idea formed in her head. She stared at the running stream for a few seconds, then looked back at the brown barrel beside her.
If the space water was rare and expensive, then wasting it would be the dumbest thing she could do. But if it truly had the power to speed up growth, then maybe it didn’t need to be used in large quantities like normal water.
She slowly exhaled. " No harm in trying."
The stream beside the land was clean for now. In the apocalypse, it would definitely get polluted sooner or later, but at this moment, it was still safe. If she used the stream water as the base and added just a little space water into it, maybe the effect would spread without her burning through the whole barrel in one day.
Using the space was easy. She thought of a bucket, and it instantly materialised in front of her. She carried it and walked to the stream and filled it halfway.
The water was cold against her gloves, and it made her hands tingle. She carried the bucket back carefully, trying not to spill it, then she carried a little amount of the space water. She mixed them together.
She expected something magical to happen but the mixed water looked just like... water.
She pouted, it wasn’t magical. She sighed, before filling the watering can with the mixed water. She tested it on a small portion of the land.
She waited eagerly for it to work. Seconds felt like years, and when it was just one minute after the watering. The soil cracked open softly, and green sprouts germinated from the ground.
"Whoa... it worked!" Laurel jumped in excitement. It really worked, now she doesn’t need to worry about the space water not being enough. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
Laurel’s eyes sparkled as she crouched down, staring at the tiny green sprouts pushing through the soil. She reached out and touched one gently, almost like she was afraid it would disappear if she blinked too hard. It was real, and fresh.
"So it’s not the quantity..." she muttered softly. "It’s the quality."
Ling Xuan sighed in her head. "Obviously. It’s a cheat."
"And I’m grateful for it," Laurel said, standing up, brushing the dirt off her gloves. Her gaze swept across the land, and her heart calmed down a little.
The cleared section was wide, but she hadn’t planted the whole hectare, only the parts she had prepared earlier. Most of the land was still empty soil, and watering everything would be a waste.
She carried the bucket closer and poured the mixed water carefully into the irrigation channels that the system created earlier. The shallow lines filled smoothly, and the water spread neatly across the planted section like a small network. Laurel watched closely, her eyes not leaving the soil for even a second.
The ground darkened as it absorbed the water, and a faint warmth rose from the earth, like the land was waking up. Then the magic started again, slow at first, then faster.
The corn row trembled slightly, and green shoots pushed through in a way that made Laurel’s breath hitch. The beans followed not long after, and within minutes, more sprouts appeared in different parts of the field.
Even the millet, which looked hopeless because the seeds were tiny and scattered, began to show faint green lines across the soil. The field looked like it was coming back to life right in front of her eyes.
Laurel covered her mouth, her eyes wide. "This is insane..."
Ling Xuan hummed. "I’ve never seen something like this. Truly remarkable."
Laurel turned quickly and walked back to the stream, filling the bucket again. This time she was faster and more confident, she filled the bucket with more than half with the stream water, then a small portion of space water, then she mixed it and poured it into the irrigation channel again.
She repeated it over and over, her arms getting heavier each time, her fingers aching slightly from gripping the bucket. Still, she didn’t stop, because every time she poured the water, she could see she was getting closer to fulfilling the mission.
After a few rounds, Laurel finally paused, bending forward slightly as she caught her breath. Sweat clung to her forehead, and her back felt sore from moving up and down so many times, but she didn’t feel annoyed anymore. She only felt relieved.
She lifted her head and stared at the field again, and this time, she smiled, her work was done.
She lifted her head, her face facing the sky. The stars shone brightly, they were beautiful like little sparkles over the dark sky.
"Ling Xuan, take us home." She muttered weakly.
.....
Ling Xuan drove the car back to the Wayne mansion. When she stepped out of the car, she saw a figure resting his back against the wall.
When she approached closer, her face turned into a faint scowl.
Without saying a word, she walked past him.
Alexander who had been waiting for his wife to come back for ages was lost for words when he saw her return again in shabby clothes and covered in dirt.
He had asked someone to keep an eye on her. The informant told him she was doing farm work for a private company.
He had almost lost it when he heard the news. They weren’t lacking money, and she was the young madam of the Wayne family. If people heard his wife was doing farm work that would be the end of their reputation.
By the time he could recollect himself, Ling Xuan had walked past him. He quickly hurried beside her in long strides.
"Laurel, what do you want to eat?" He asked with a calm polite tone.
Ling Xuan, who wanted to ignore him at all costs, stopped the moment she heard the food. And for a brief second, the memory of her drinking wine and eating meat with her fellow soldiers flickered through her mind.
"Meat and some strong liquor." She replied sternly almost as if it was a command he shouldn’t dare refuse.
