Chapter 163: Breath

The last exchange turned into more savage than before. The two-headed Guardian staggered under Myles’ crossing slash but didn’t fall. Both of its heads screamed at once and its blades spun in a furious counterattack.

Myles stepped inside the storm of relentless attack. The bladed hands scraped along his ribs, tearing his cloth, but he drove his own two weapons forward at that moment.

His dagger plunged into the already fractured shoulder joint Ethan had shattered earlier. His short sword followed through the center of its chest.

The blades in the Guardian’s hands froze before it even hit.

For a moment it remained standing there unmoving.

Then both heads split apart as Myles ripped his weapons free and carved upward through the necks in a final decisive cut.

The massive body crashed to the stone.

At the same time from the other side, George roared and brought his hammer down one last time onto the basalt rhino’s exposed neck seam.

The glowing crack caved inward. The basalt plates exploded everywhere in fragments.

The beast’s legs buckled and its enormous frame slammed against the arena floor, shaking loose dust from the upper walls.

Victor finished the headless Guardian with a brutal downward cleave that split through the pelvis and buried his weapon into the stone beneath. The torso collapsed in two separate halves.

Kade then worked together with George after he had done with the rhino, together they were fighting against the stone golem.

George shattered its outer shell while Kade drove both of his ember-coated fists into the glowing fissure.

Molten cracks spread rapidly through the construct’s body before it detonated into a pile of lifeless rubble.

Daniel’s twin daggers twisted inside the shadow Guardian’s core as it tried one final flicker of instability to escape.

He didn’t withdraw until the pulsing light completely died. Then its dark form dissolved into dust.

Clara drove her spear straight through the ruptured membrane of the mucus Guardian’s remaining mass, crushing the internal core under her heel as it attempted to swell again.

The bloated body deflated into a collapsing sack of foul residue.

Samantha loosed her final arrow into the winged predator’s skull just as Ethan’s pistols barked in unison.

The creature’s head snapped back. It fell hard to the ground. Its wings twitched one time before it went fully still.

Kade stepped forward and crushed the crystalline serpent’s fractured head under his heel, ending its last spasm.

Silence filled the chamber after all that chaos. Just heavy breathing filled the vast arena.

The floor was unrecognizable. Corpses sprawled across cracked stone. Blood pooled into shallow streams that mixed with thick mucus. Shards of crystal glittered among broken golem fragments. Basalt armor plates lay scattered like shattered shields. Dust hung in the air, tinted red under the dim light.

George leaned on his hammer, his chest rising sharply. Victor wiped blood from his forearm and face without a word. Ethan pressed a hand briefly against the gash on his back before straightening again. Clara limped, but then steadied herself.

Daniel rolled his shoulders and flicked dark residue from his daggers. Kade’s gauntlets slowly dimmed from bright ember to a low glow.

Lilian observed the aftermath with the same calm expression.

Then a notification appeared in front of their eyes.

[Floor 10 Cleared.]

Amber light spread across the arena floor, flowing between corpses and debris.

[All Guardians Eliminated.]

[EXP reward Calculating...]

A surge of pressure swept through their bodies. Ether rushed into their cores like a rising tide.

Myles felt power settled deeper into his veins. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

[Level Up: 51]

Victor straightened as the notification flickered before his eyes as well.

[Level Up: 47]

One by one, the rest of the group felt the same surge.

Clara, Kade, George, Ethan, Daniel, Samantha have now arrived at Level 41.

The glow faded slowly. Only the ruined battlefield remained.

Myles breathed a long sigh and looked across the wreckage, seeing his friends were bloodied and exhausted.

"Goddamn..." George let out a long sigh and dropped onto the filthy floor without hesitation. He didn’t care about the blood, the dust, or the mucus soaking into his armor.

One by one, the others followed and also dropped to the filthy ground.

They looked at each other. Seeing each other’s bruised faces, torn armor and clothes, and blood-streaked skin.

Then someone started laughing.

It came from George first, a low and breathless laugh. Victor snorted. Ethan shook his head and laughed despite the sting in his back. Clara also couldn’t hold it in. Soon the sound spread across the ruined arena.

They had just survived all of that.

All ten floors’ Guardians at once. And they were still alive.

Not only alive but they now had gotten stronger as well.

The surge of power still lingered in their veins. Their bodies felt heavier from exhaustion, but also lighter from growth.

The enormous EXP gain settled deep inside their cores like solid proof of what they had accomplished together.

Satisfaction swelled in their chests. They had fought through pain together. They had bled side by side. Each injury carried a memory of someone covering another’s weakness. No one had died or run.

Even Myles laughed.

He sat among them instead of standing apart, both blades resting loosely at his sides.

The struggle and pain they shared together created something else, something bigger and more important than simple cooperation. Trust.

A bond forged under pressure.

It felt like they had crossed something significant together. A line that, once stepped over, could never be undone.

Nothing could replace that feeling between them now.

From behind, Lilian watched them.

Her eyes moved across their exhausted forms with quiet fascination. These lower beings were covered in mucus, blood, and dust. Their armor was cracked. Their bodies were injured.

Yet they laughed. They looked... fulfilled.

Her lips curved slightly into a small, almost imperceptible smile.

Then amber light rose from beneath them.

It wrapped around each of their bodies gently. The ruined arena faded.

They reappeared inside another chamber bathed in warm brown hues.

The walls were smooth and earthen, the air dry and calm. Soft light radiated from embedded stones along the ceiling. The atmosphere felt stable and safe.

A notification appeared before them.

[Trial Cleared: Floors 1–10]

[Rest Chamber Unlocked]

[You may recover before proceeding further.]

The amber glow faded completely.

For the first time since entering this strange dungeon-like structure, silence surrounded them without threat and they finally had a place to breathe.
